Trivia: The parrot-like costume is left over from 701-NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST, and was worn again by uncredited actor ROSS STURLIN. He also helped make and wore a leech costume in 406-ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES. Sturlin later lost sight in one eye after a stunt accident on the TV series Combat.

Once again, stock footage from ONE MILLION B.C. was used. Exterior water scenes were done at the Arboretum in Arcadia, California. Other exterior shots were filmed at Bronson Canyon, also used for 107-ROBOT MONSTER; 210-KING DINOSAUR; 311-IT CONQUERED THE WORLD; 317-VIKING WOMEN; 319-WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST; 404-TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE; and 701-NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST.

One guy who knew about that costume reappearing was actor EDWIN "ED" NELSON, who plays a caveteen here and portrayed Dave Randall in 701-NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST. Nelson also was to appear in 406-ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES and worked with Sturlin on the leech costumes, only to be called away to appear in another film. He also appeared in K15-SUPERDOME; 503-SWAMP DIAMONDS and 814-RIDING WITH DEATH. Other Nelson films are: 1959-A Bucket of Blood; 1957-Invasion of the Saucermen; 1958-The Brain Eaters (directed by Bruno VeSota); and 1959-T-Bird Gang. He's done a lot of TV, including the series Peyton Place.

ROBERT SHAYNE, who plays the fire-keeper here, can also be seen as Prof. Bradshaw in 409-THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN and as Lt. Cassidy in 419-THE REBEL SET. You can also catch him in The Giant Claw, The Neanderthal Man, and Corman's War of the Satellites. Shayne is most recognized as Inspector Henderson in TV's The Adventures of Superman. He was in a few A-pictures like 1944's Mr. Skeffington (with Bette Davis) and 1945's Christmas in Connecticut (with Barbara Stanwyck).

In this movie, JUNE JOCELYN played Robert Vaughn's doting mother. You can see her in three B.I.G. movies too: a nurse in 309-THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN; a worried mother in its sequel, 319-WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST; and Merritt Stone's long-suffering widow in 313-EARTH VS. THE SPIDER. Other of Jocelyn's films are: 1957-Fear Strikes Out; Rockabilly Baby; 1958-Attack of the Puppet People; Vertigo (directed by Alfred Hitchcock); and 1966-Runaway Girl.

Screenwriter R. WRIGHT CAMPBELL, who got an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for 1957's The Man of a Thousand Faces (about Lon Chaney, Sr. and starring James Cagney), would find steady employment writing for Roger Corman and American International Pictures: besides TEENAGE CAVEMAN, he wrote (and sometimes acted in) 1955's Five Guns West (Corman's first movie); 1963's The Young Racers; and 1967's Hell's Angels on Wheels.
