RIP Wolfgang Kohlhaase

Berlin, Germany– German film director Wolfgang Kohlhaase, known for “Solo Sunny” (1980), “The Break” (1989) and “Summer in Berlin” (2005), died Oct. 5. He was 91.

MSTies may be aware that he was one of the screenwriters who adapted the Stanislaw Lem novel “The Astronauts” into the movie in episode 211- FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS.

There are a few obits on the web but so far all of them are in German.

RIP Lydia Alfonsi

Italian actress Lydia Alfonsi died Sept. 21. She was 94. MSTies will recall that she played The Sybil in the movie in episode 502- HERCULES and played Megara (though she was uncredited) in the movie in episode 1108- THE LOVES OF HERCULES.

Henry Silva, RIP

Woodland Hills, Calif. — Menacing character actor Henry Silva, who frequently played bad guys in many films including the original “Oceans 11” and the original “Manchurian Candidate,” died Sept. 14 at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital here, one day short of his 96th birthday.

Silva was the last surviving star of the original “Oceans 11” movie. MSTies will remember his role as evil Bronx clearer Floyd Wrangler in the movie in episode 705- ESCAPE 2000.
