MALIBU, CALIF–NFL defensive lineman Dick Butkus, a Chicago Bears legend who is regarded as one of the greatest players in league history, died Oct. 5 at his home here. He was 80.

Butkus’ college career at Illinois earned him a place in the College Football Hall of Fame. He also dabbled in acting, and MSTies might recall his role as Hennerson in the movie in episode K15- SUPERDOME. He was mentioned in a host segment in episode 422- DAY THE EARTH FROZE.

RIP Sen. Dianne Feinstein

WASHINGTON D.C. — Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) died at her home here Sept. 28. She was 90. Her career was one of many firsts: She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, and one of two of the first women elected to the U.S. Senate from California.

MSTies will recall her being mentioned in a host segment in episode 1004- FUTURE WAR. Referencing the Lionel Ritchie ballad “Three Times a Lady,” Mike and the bots explained that Feinstein was “exactly one time a lady.”

RIP David McCallum

New York City — Actor David McCallum, a Scottish actor best known for his roles on the 1960s spy series “The Man From UNCLE” and then, four decades later, for the CBS crime procedural “NCIS,” died at a hospital here Sept. 25. He was 90.

McCallum was a stalwart on “NCIS,” among the longest-running series on U.S. television. He joined the crime series when it launched in 2003, playing Donald “Ducky” Mallard, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service’s chief medical examiner through to its 20th season this year.

Before “NCIS,” he was best known as Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin in “The Man from UNCLE,” a role that made him a 1960s heartthrob.

MSTies will remember him as evil terrorist Castille in the movie in episode 324- MASTER NINJA II.

The Washington Post has the story.
