SANTA MONICA, CALIF. — Louis Gossett Jr., who won a supporting actor Oscar for playing the hard-as-nails drill instructor in 1982’s “An Officer and a Gentleman” a few years after winning an Emmy for his role as the cunning Fiddler in “Roots,” died here March 29. He was 87.
MSTies will recall that he was imitated during a host segment in episode 806- THE UNDEAD, recalling Gossett’s memorable catchphrase, “mayoNAISE,” from “An Officer and a Gentleman.” He was also was mentioned in a host segment in episode 417- CRASH OF MOONS. St. Albans, Vermont — Character actor M. Emmet Walsh, best known for his gripping performances in films such as “Blood Simple” and “Blade Runner,” died from cardiac arrest on March 19 at a hospital here. He was 88.
MSTies may remember that he played Whitley in the movie in episode K15- SUPERDOME and was mentioned in a host segment in episode 301- CAVE DWELLERS. Thanks to Tim for the heads up. Singer-songwriter Eric Carmen, frontman of the pop-rock band the Raspberries who went on to achieve success with songs such as “All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” has died. He was 74.
