This is a video-on-demand (VOD) title, which means that you get the movie and riffing together. You can download a Divx version or a file you can burn to a DVD.

Anyone else notice they reused the “Sorry, Dad!” gag from “Johnny at the Fair”?

This would be a grey, sad world without movies like this in it. Thank you, the ’70s, for being you.

Glad they’re riffing older, public domain movies. Especially horror ones.

Like Planet of the Dinosaurs, this one looks like a porn movie cast got together and decided to make PG rated movie.

Can’t wait!

VOB files worked perfectly… watched it…. a+

Think the “Fire ants in my underwear” riff was an MST reference? Looks like a “great” movie, to be sure.

Being guilty for having Netflixed most of Rifftrax’s DVDs, I bought this.
It’s really not a bad movie, except for the comic relief which is more painful than funny.
One thing you miss about MST3k vs this is the editing of the movies a bit to take out the really awful scenes, as well as the breaks. (And they still haven’t mastered the sound levels. It has the somewhat frequent problem of the movie being too soft vs the riffing. If you turn it up to hear what’s going on, the riffs are too loud…ugh).
But the riffing is very funny, particularly the scene with the British guy. I was a bit surprised by some bleeped swearing, don’t remember that before. In one case it was worth it (the initials of the hat the sheriff wears), but the other couple times seemed a bit cheap.
I would give a B. $9.99 is a little steep if it’s a PD movie, considering riffs are normally $4…

Why if this a public domain film can’t a dvd be released at the same time? I’ll pay $14.95 for that.

Anyone else think “pancake” just before Kevin said it? I loved the phone bit, Just wish I could understand the words a little better.

Once again, I’m glad that I am not a child of the 70s. Typical 70s crap. Hardly any scenes of the monster; more emphasis of the two yokels and Doc. I still don’t understand why that British doofus set that boat on fire, accomplished nothing. Also, that first dead boater is a Senator? Seriously?
Loved the riffing. I still don’t get why they insist on bleeping the profanity. I can handle it just fine. I hope they do more like this.

Sometimes bleeped profanity is funnier (for example, Jon Stewart under the misteltoe on Stephen Colbert’s Christmas Special), sometimes it’s not. In the case of RiffTrax, it’s not. For example, from the Highlander RiffTrax (I may not remember it perfectly):
MacLeod: “It’s like a kind of magic.”
Bill: “Like that b******* kind of magic Chriss Angel does.”
Now why, in a movie
featuringbasically built around multiple decapitations, would the word bullsh*t be inappropriate? What if they’d bleeped the same word in the Star Trek 5 RiffTrax?2 likes
10 hours to download this. Guess I’ll do it while I sleep.

This is where Rifftrax really feels the most like MST3K for me. The current movie riffs are funny, and the shorts are fine, but there’s something about settling in for a feature-length stupid old movie that conjures up memories of 1993. Especially when it’s one of these cheeseball 70s jobs. It’s amazing to me that there is a NEVER ENDING supply of terrible movies from the 70s. I consider myself to be a pretty ace crapologist, but I had never heard of this one before. Great mustaches, great rubber monster, great smelly guys. Loved it.

Anyone recognize the “toaster” creature on the cover? They added googly-eyes to the remains of Willis O’Brien’s mechanical “sea serpent” from the finale of “Son of Kong.”
WHY they added that, I’m not sure. Ain’t got jack to do with the movie, which was the typical rotten grot hucked out by Crown International Pictures.

Looks like a much buy. But…will be waiting on actual DVD that can be mailed to me. :)

Those two dumb yokels got more screen time than the rest of the cast COMBINED.

Some questions about the VOD titles:
1. I see on the site it says it downloads as a divx file. I can’t get divx movies to play on my blu-ray player. Am I out of luck?
2. Are there files we can print out to make covers for a DVD case?
3. Will these later be available for purchase on a physical, official DVD from the site, or is this new line of VOD ONLY VOD?

@ Happenstance: Nice catch. I was wondering where that thing came from. (The toast and googly eyes are the required visual reference to Disembaudio that they include in nearly every poster.)
@ CK2: I dunno about your Blu-Ray question, but I can tell you that some fine folks at the Rifftrax Forum make printable cover art for every release. I’m sure there should be some nifty-looking stuff to print out any day now here: http://forum.rifftrax.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ecac4ffdefa7cf4ab0a8f4b6c5188b84&board=316.0
And it’s a public domain movie, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t release a physical DVD sooner or later. But can I wait that long? :-?

If anyone is sitting on the fence here… JUMP! NOW! This one is prime riffing. Probably the closest to the old MST3k feeling I’ve had in the past half decade.

@Sharktopus: Thanks for the info and the link to printable covers! I’ll have to do some more digging to find out about the divx/blu ray thing. All of my MST3K DVDs that were transferred over from VHS play on my blu-ray player, but I downloaded and burned to DVD a divx version of the “Star Wars Holiday Special,” and it won’t play.
I think I may wait a little while to see if a physical DVD gets sold. I’ll buy those all day long.

Re: CK2
On my purchased files page I have the option of downloading in 6 different methods; divx, mp4, mpg, wmv, source.mp3 & vod.mp3. I downloaded the High Quality MPEG-2 source and it played fine in my Blu-Ray player. Hopefully this helps you out.

@KJB-27
Cool! Thanks for the info. Between that and being able to print out some cover art, I may have to take the plunge.
Does anyone know for sure, are these VOD titles going to be exclusively VOD only? If so, I’ll go ahead and start buying them since they just started, but if they come out with physical DVDs to purchase later, I’d rather do that, although the VOD are cheaper. . .Hmmmm, so many decisions!

its funny, I still have this film on VHS, actually as bad 70s films go its pretty watchable. I bet its oh so much better with riffing, they should release it on DVD.
