UPDATE: The two most recent RiffTrax live shows, “Reefer Madness” and “House on Haunted Hill,” are now available on DVD. We’d appreciate it you click here to order.
They will be out on the Blu-ray July 19. If you preorder, we would appreciate it if you click here:
Thanks.
Yeah!!
Yeah!! x2
Yeah!! etc.
Missed the “Reefer Madness” live show, so I’m really looking forward to finally seeing the Grass short. And Blu-ray!!
This sounds good. Will there be more to come? Or just for the live shows only? Hope they have a lot of extras on the blu-ray.. :-))
Friggin sweet! I missed the “Haunted Hill” show so this is great news. And obviously they see the importance of Blu-ray, so they just need to fix the new RiffTrax player to play all BD’s. Not too big of a deal but it is 2011, ya know?
I’m glad to see one of the riffing branches start to support Blu-ray. I have to think Cinematic Titanic would benefit more from it, though, since they use the performer silhouettes.
Any word on more Rifftrax live shows?
Crapola!! I want to purchase those DVDs but have to hold off until I get my credit card paid off. I saw both shows and loved them. I hope there’s more.
For those asking, we’ll most likely have another live show in the summer… hope to have an announcement soon!
The blu-ray is cheeper than the dvd ???? Cool price…..
Is there any chance the guys could PLEASE come to Chicago to do a live show? There are other areas with big concentrations of fans besides California who would LOVE to get a chance to meet the gang!!!! Pretty Please?
Yay! Been waiting for these! Both were so much better than the “studio” versions; not just because they were rewritten and further refined, but because of that special energy the guys get when performing in front of a live audience.
C’mon, May 17th….
Just ordered both through the SOL links….
Funny, I was just wondering about these. Cool. I’m especially looking forward to watching the shorts again.
@4 – The special features are pretty modest as this is our first outing with BD. The shows themselves were shot in 1080P, so that’s the big draw here. If these do well I’m fairly confident that it will mean more in terms of special features on future BD releases.
Awesome!!! I’ve been waiting for these two live shows on DVD. Missed them both.
@15..Thanks for letting me know about the special features. Will other Rifftrax dvd’s be on blu-ray in the near future?? Maybe for one of the special features, there could be behind the scenes stuff, like them writing the riffs for the movie and maybe a tour of Rifftrax? Just a thought.
I hope the Blu Ray’s are ridiculous annoying to play. So many are just so encumbered it’s a step back from DVD from a user experience point of view.
aren’t! D’oh.
They can keep on doing this to my wallet if they want too. I was sitting crooked anyway.
I’m still waiting for some announcement from SHOUT on Vol. XXI. They were usually pretty fast with the next one after a release.
2 good-to-great live shows on some relatively inexpensive blu-rays? i’m in!
Blu-ray is pretty cool for the relatively low price they are selling it at (at least on Amazon), though I really don’t see how it will benefit all that much from the high def treatment, unless they’ve also done high def transfers of the films and substituted those into the recording. Otherwise the only parts that would actually be in HD are the shots of the Rifftrax guys on stage portions. Still for the $11.99 Amazon is currently listing them at I think it’s worth getting the Blu-ray.
Also it will be great to finally see the Grass short again. I’ve been very confused as to why they still have never released that one on their website after all this time. It’s been so long now and they’ve released so many other new shorts in the meantime. I HIGHLY doubt it’s a matter of them not liking it since it seemed to go over exceptionally well at the live show, so I can only imagine that maybe they ran into some other problem, possibly rights issues, that has prevented it’s release. Otherwise what is the hold up? And actually if it is some kind of rights issue or something then would that also prevent it from being included on this live DVD? I hope not.
I don’t mean to sound suspicious, but I think they held up those shorts as an incentive to sell the live dvd shows. (well, it worked, I’ll gladly hand over whatever to buy those dvds; those shows were great)
@ Dip
I agree on all counts. Seems like a poor decision to sell something, then give part away for free, then sell the rest of the parts, then try to sell the whole show again.
Besides, in every case the live riffing outdid the studio versions later released. No matter what, that would sell me on a physical disc every time.
@25
Actually, I wasn’t complaining, I’m fascinated by marketing strategies and like to try to figure out what companies are plotting. :-)
I have attended every Rifftrax Live event, with the exception of Reefer Madness. I am a little nervous about the “With All New Intro By Mike, Kevin & Bill!” tag. The grass short hasn’t been available on the site – Might the short not be available for this disc either?
I would appreciate some clarification.
I agree with Weepydonuts here. Having seen Reefer Madness riffed twice now (the live show and the old Mike-only DVD), and even with it being on Blu-Ray, my purchase of this is now SOLELY predicated on the knowledge that I would get the Grass short.
I don’t have a blu-ray player, so I’m going to have to pay more :(
Looks like the first MST3K fansite to go Blu!!

just got a notice from amazon that these releases were being pushed back to july 19th…
The Amazon order page for Reefer Madness includes the grass short in the description of disc contents. I don’t think the “new intro” is replacing it.
Cool! I’ve never been so happy to learn about grass.
Guess this explains why no official announcement from RT yet.
I saw both of those shows in the movie theater and they were great, especially Reefer Madness thanks to the added shorts. I’m just waiting for Amazon to increase the discount on the regular DVDs before ordering.
Thank you John Ellis #32 for the info that the Grass short will be on there. This will be bought, no matter when it comes out.
The four shorts in both of these shows are perhaps the most bizarre and funniest shorts they’ve ever done. They also ask some of the most poignant questions:
Did Vincent Price continue to do dry cleaning on the side?
Is corn grass?
Which chain hired the grocery witch?
Will the world ever recover from its loss of paper, Willie?
Oh yeah, I forgot about Frozen Frolics, though that may be a good thing.
I went to both shows and House on Haunted Hill wasn’t very good. Reefer Madness on the other hand, that would be worth buying.
I’m going to wait until I get a job before I purchase those DVDs. Just can’t do that right now.
I’m holding out for the blu-rays, I wonder why there’s such a long delay though.
Amazon finally put a decent discount on the regular DVDs of these two shows and I ordered them last night using the links here on Satellite news.
I pre-ordered mine a couple days ago. It still hasn’t shipped.
Why do I have no memory of Frozen Frolics? It sounds like a cartoon. The missus is drawing a blank too. Weird.
@Sharktopus:
Remember that Aesop cartoon during the “House on Haunted Hill” show? That’s what they mean, I believe.
I preordered mine on Amazon weeks ago when this first came up, but they still haven’t shipped. I wonder what gives?
@41 The delay between DVD and BD is due to the production time at the DVD manufacturer. It apparently takes considerably more time to produce a BD disc and we wanted to get these shows out at least on DVD ASAP, hence the staggered release dates. I swear that is all of the info I have regarding that. There is no great conspiracy behind the delay or anything like that (much to the disappointment of some, I’m sure. :P )
Reefer Live includes the Grass short, so don’t worry there.
the ‘grasses’ short on the reefer dvd is AMAZING! one of the funniest shorts ever. that short alone is worth the price of the dvd. i was in attendance at the nashville show and the evil paper short is excellent as well. i did use the link-thru from sat news to amazon to pre-order these, and i got the reefer dvd on time, but the hohh dvd is delayed for some reason via amazon – amazon sent a ‘sorry, we were supposed to have it but don’t’ email for hohh. doesn’t appear to be delayed direct from rifftrax. i really enjoy the live riffs vs the ‘studio’ versions – they
are all good, but live ones just seem a little more fun.
@ Laura:
Nope. Aesop? This is so weird that I have no memory of that short. Guess I’m getting old. My hair is old, my teeth are grey…
Just one more reason to pick these up sooner rather than later.
