Great questions…nice to see someone doing their homework. … “especially with the raw tonnage of jokes that we shovel out there.” Bill keep shoveling because we like what you have to say!

There are words at SuicideGirls.com? I hope they have pics of Bill in a pvc bustier that accentuates his sexy barbed-wire-wrapped-heart tattoo.

KD: “Do you mind if I ask a few questions about Meet Dave?”
    BC: “Absolutely.”

That could response can be a couple of ways. ;-)

I remember Bill saying once he was open to Starship Dave (I refuse to refer to it by it’s official name) being riffed on Rifftrax, but Mike said later he doesn’t personally want to do it because it would be mean-spirited as Bill worked on it.

Fascinating interview, touching on subjects I’ve thought about but would really not want to ask (religion/politics, Starship/Meet Dave). Good stuff.

Great interview. I hate reading interviews with any of the RT or CT crews where the interviewer asks the same uninspired questions over and over. These are some of the most intelligent people in comedy! How many times can you ask them what it was like working on MST?

And by the way, Bill has too few of his plays published. If anyone here hasn’t read Hate Mail or The Big Slam, they’re awesome. Trying to get a production of Big Slam going sometime this year (some mook did Hate Mail here last year and made it one of the more painful audience experiences I’ve ever had). Here’s hoping.

Clicking links on this article, I unfortunately found my way to that Mike Nelson interview. Do you think it’s a good idea to compare a paper’s editorial board, whom you disagree with, with the Soviet Union? The former has differing political opinions with you on zoning ordinance, the latter is responsible for killing 20 million people. Oooh, and the bon mot, “There’s a serious America and a silly America.” You’re, apparently, of the latter.

On a separate note, I’d like to say, it is possible to get up in the morning and eat your Cornflakes without inflating such mundane daily activities into political stances. Like everything everyone does every minute has to be checked up with their politics. [Guffaw, guffaw, guffaw.]

Sorry. Strange place for a rant. Mike seems like a nice fellow (that goes for all the MST3K guys/gals). All the MST3K guys/gals deserve to be thanked for keeping it out of the show. Knowing the good-naturedness of the show makes finding something like this a bit of a let down.

Again, sorry. Didn’t mean to rant. I’m just over politics! (Can you tell?)

interesting interview. I’m intrigued by the political/religious differences between all the Best Brains people (Mike seems to be far more conservative than anyone else on the writing staff).

I think Bill meant ‘Vampira’, not ‘Vampirella’.

One ‘Meet Dave’ question I’ve always wanted to ask Bill: Was the movie inspired by that MST3k scene where the Nanites discuss building a robot to go down to earth and say ‘Hey! Look over there!’

    @#18

I know what you mean. But to be fair, I suspect that Mike has come to see how “Silly America” can easily encompass people more to his side of the political spectrum . . . I’ve seen a number of Rifftrax where he seems quite happy to recite riffs slamming Bill O’Reilly and Sarah Palin. I have to think he’s intelligent enough to prefer pragmatic politics over such grandstanding yellow-punditry, and draw the line there.

And that’s good enough for me.

They’ve made plenty of Ron Paul jokes, too. Mike may be “conservative,” but he’s not crazy. Well… not THAT crazy, anyway. Clearly he’s a little crazy – look at what he does for a living.

  22. Raptorial Talon says:

Mike is basically a right-leaning centrist by modern standards . . . or what would have been moderate-right a decade or two ago, before the frame of national politics was dragged violently to the far right – leaving good, commonsense conservatives like Mike a lot closer to the center than they had been for a long time.

Bottom line, he clearly still has his wits about him, and the backstage dynamic between him and his more liberal partners is – and has always been – a healthy thing for the tone and scope of the riffing projects he’s worked on. Keeps them diverse and well-grounded in all directions.
