Yeah, it’s actually a pretty tough slog and doesn’t really give you all that much new info.

Pretty rough format to read through. Certainly make me anxious for my copy of “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny” to get here, though! Hoping they put out Birdemic on DVD soon!!!

It is long, but I enjoyed it. With some good info.

Mike may even have a love child!

    @ Max Keller:

I got and watched Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny last week. It’s as bad as anything can be. It makes Manos look like a competent production. Rifftrax should use this tagline for the DVD, “YOU WILL BE UNPREPARED!” It was a good time listening to the riffing, though.

I noticed he never answered any questions about his current relationship with Joel.

I noticed the Joel thing too. It’s easy to imagine their might be bad blood betwixt the Brains, but since I’ve never heard either actually take a shot at the other (between Joel and Mike at least), perhaps it’s just a bit of cool aloofishness towards someone who it now a competitor.

My guess is that he does not really care about Joel one way or the other, but that there is no good way to say that to the fans. He could give a bland corporate statment, but how different would that be from no answer. He already gave one about 1993: he was missed, yadda yadda, but the riffing kept us strong, yadda yadda. How many more do we want?

Joel Mike……does it even matter anymore? The split between the two is over 20 years old now. I don’t think either cares much about it anymore so why should we?

@Max Keller I think you might be waiting a long time for a Rifftrax Birdemic DVD to be released. Its not Public Domain (Yes someone actually owns up and holds the copyright for that film). I would highly suggest downloading the regular Rifftrax one of there best imo.

Yes, you’re probably right, Jas. I generally don’t like to download and watch stuff on my computer, but I think I’ll make an exception for this one, I’ve heard it’s an awesome episode.

I think the deal is that anything he says about Joel might be taken out of context (especially if he tried making a joke, which he did in most of his answers on that site). So it’s easier just to not say anything.

OMG, you know what I think? I think Joel and Mike are, like, secret best friends and they have a pinky pact to not talk about it!

I can’t imagine Mike not liking Joel. Didn’t Mike say once that he thought Joel was the better host? Hell, Joel once said that if Mike had been around since when they did the pilot, Joel would have asked Mike to host.

Mike does seem to still have issues with Jim Mallon. And I am PROBABLY reading too much into this, but I noticed someone asked if he was willing to change his name to Jim, and Mike wrote:
    “Yes.
Wait, “Jim”? Did I say yes to “Jim”?! God, no!”

    Again, it probably means nothing.

I found the site’s format annoying, and when I tried to expand the page to include additional comments, I got an error. It was nice to see Mr Nelson interact with fans in that way. However, I didn’t learn anything new, but that’s probably due more to the questions asked rather than the answers given.

    About the Joel/Mike thing…

On the Comic Con reunion extra with Patton Oswald I noticed how the name plates were laid out. The guys (and ladies) didn’t all sit where their plates were. Can’t remember the exact lay out now.

But I wonder if it was intentional.

I think the Joel / Mike relationship is pretty simple. I’m sure they get along when they meet and respect one another. But they worked together for a few years a long time ago now. No one is necessarily “best buds” or keeps in touch with every former co-worker they’ve ever had. If they don’t really associate with one another now, I don’t think there’s anything to read into it. That’s just life.

    Thats exactly right, tvsfrank2.
People need to stop reading so much into it and coming up with such unrealistic speculations.
The real world is alot simpler than they want to think it is.

When you move on to a new job, you might have been best buds with alot of people, but things change when you don’t work with them anymore and you don’t see them daily like you used to. You may not see some of them ever again in fact, but it has nothing to do with liking or disliking them.
Especially in the Mike-Joel situation, where they have gone onto many different jobs since they worked together.
Wait twenty years after you’ve worked 3 or 4 different jobs and see if that isnt similar for you.

I could care less about Joel/Mike mumbo-jumbo. So what if they hate each other? So what if they are super best friends eating ice cream and gabbing about boys –errr– girls together? Joel is doing his own thing, and Mike is doing his own thing. As long as they keep making their own “things,” I’m perfectly happy!

Even if they did hate each other, there’s no reason to bring it up to the fans. Why would people want to know that anyway? If anything, that would depress the entire situation even more. What if Joel did hate Mike and vice versa – are we expected to just stop watching either of their projects? That’s what I feel like the whole Mike/Joel thing comes down to – some sort of weird family/loyalty issue. Joel “Big Papa” Hodgson vs Mike “Funny Uncle” Nelson :-P

I say: Mike and Joel aren’t bringing it up and so we shouldn’t either. The riffing is all that matters! :-D

Actually, I heard that Mike and Joel’s ‘problems’ stem NOT from their working together, but rather, from an incident that began one day with Mike walking into the MST lunchroom, only to find Bridget (his wife) and Joel sharing the same ice cream soda!

Words, unfortunately, were passed, gunfire exchanged, resulting in Joel’s leaving the show for good, later that day.

NOTHING has been the same between the two men since, and Bridget is forbidden to EVER use the name “Joel”, or utter the phrase “sleepy-eyed”, in the Nelson household to this day….. :struggle:
