Chris Gore (again) reviewed the latest MST3K 4-DVD set on Attack Of The Show on G4, this time it was yesterday, Friday night. Yes, DVDuesday is now not only on Tuesdays, it’s on the Friday night edition of the show as well.
Did C. Gore do better than last time? By miles it was better than last time, at least he didn’t trash MST3K this time or say you could see it on TV still instead (???), but in the end he recommended renting not buying it. I guess he doesn’t understand that if the last show to air from that set did so for the first time way back in 1993, then the whole reason it’s on DVD in the first place is because fans want to own it and watch it repeatedly even after nearly two decades. Also, the way he talked about it “being from the season Joel left the show” seemed to indicate that he thought that applied to the whole set, not just Magic Voyage Of Sinbad. At least he watched the extra features this time and they ran a clip of Trace B. from the interview on the Sinbad disc.
Here’s a link to watch the segment online:

“Anyone else have trouble with the sound in the Servo vs. Servo extra? It seemed I had to keep adjusting the volume.”
Yeah, the extra was really wonderful to see, but they couldn’t have done a worse job filming it if they tried. At least it was kind of fun when Joel was the one walking in front of the camera rather than all the random people. :)

Can we all agree that Chris Gore is a tool? This is the second time he has reviewed a set and professed to “love” it, then only recommend it as a “rent”. He also stated that there was a lot of tension in Joel’s final scene that made it funnier(?!?), when in the interview Trace states that he doesn’t remember any tension on set. If he was truly a fan he would say to “buy” it. I’ve never liked him ever since he slammed “Twin Peaks” back in the day when he reviewed it in “Film Threat” magazine.

Obviously I meant to say “Joel’s final SEASON”, not “SCENE”. Sheesh.

Time for some late night pizza and Master Ninja! So, not to sound like an impatient jerk, what’s gonna be on Vol. XXI and when is it coming out?

Elvis@58, volume XXI will be the five Gamera movies. It doesn’t have a release date yet.

Yes, that tool from AOTS is a tool. Ever since his first screw-up with the 20th Anniversary Edition, I’ve had an undeniable urge to kick him in a sensitive area with a steel-toe boot. I say we should ignore anything that comes flopping out of his mouth. He wouldn’t know a good TV show if it fell on his and crushed his stupid head.

Is it official that the Gamera set is next? I guess it’s safe to assume, since they haven’t made any other announcement for Volume XXI.

@ #61: “Is it official that the Gamera set is next?”
Yes it is. Shout! Factory announced that here through Satellite News last Thanksgiving as a “Turkey Day” gift to the fans. It will include all 5 movies, so it will be the largest DVD MST3K set yet.

I watched Project Moonbase for the first time yesterday. I think this is one of the better episodes from Season 1. I think the riffing and host segments were good and I can see the progress made with each episode of Season 1. The movie itself was pretty good, until they actually went into space. While Col. Breiteis was nice to look at in her tight shirt, shorts and Ugg boots, the space outfits were certainly goofy looking. Overall though, Project Moonbase was a breath of fresh air after those stale Commando Cody serials.

Got my copy and stress ball. Great set! Though I wish they started adding the episode numbers to the cases. They sometimes say “this third season classic” or “the first episode”, so why not just stick the episode number somewhere? Guess that’s what the internets are for.

@ #64: I’ve also wished for that little extra bit of printing. Rabid fan of the show as I have been for two decades, I can’t remember every episode number and it sure would be handy if it was on the individual cases. Sometimes one is curious to remember the episode number and with a few notable exceptions (e.g., Manos, Rocketship X-M, Crawling Eye obviously) I often have to look them up.

Is there a release date for Volume XXI, Mr. Bob? I hope we don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving!!!! :)

Watched Project Moonbase last night. It was a blast! Two Cody episodes and a 50’s space flick. The movie was a season one highlight. It was sooooooooo nice to watch a season one episode with a crisp picture and great color. My copy of this is kinda washed out from dubbing degradgation. Trace’s imitation of SLIM PICKENS was hilarious!

@65 aka Mr. B(ob)
I made mention to the lack of episode #’s on Shout’s forums and Brian said he’d pass the info along. Didn’t look like it went anywhere. I do know, however, that Brian did change up the chapter breaks due to fans requests. So maybe if there is a loud enough voice, they’ll add the numbers.
Really, a tiny little number in a corner on the back is all they need to do.
