Have you checked out this guy’s website?
I bet that would be a hilarious live show.
It would be a one time thing though, I could see it getting old real quick.
Love his version of Guns & Roses “I Used to Love Her but I had to Kill Her.” with xylophone.
I guess I’m a sucker for “cheesy” Vegas lounge lizards.

This hit me out of left field. Gotta get this one.

Almost as weird a choice as Memento for the complete oposite reason. Ocean’s Eleven clearly doesn’t take itself seriously and is pretty funny on its own (IMHO). Still a far better choice than Memento, though.

I like the guest riffer idea.
My dream guest riffers would be any of these people:
John Cleese
Michael Palin
Martin Short
Catherine O’Hara
Conan O’Brien
Steve Martin
Joe Flaherty
Don Rickles (Just thinking about it makes me laugh)
Bob Newhart
Joe Don Baker
(Just kidding)

This absolutely demonstrates to me why I don’t like the direction RT is going in regards to doing current films.
The film doesn’t take itself seriously, and so the ribbing just falls flat. Elliot Gould’s over the top and knows he looks ridiculous — pointing that out is one of those obvious “duh” moments that MST3K would never have fallen for.
I’m a huge Mike Nelson fan, but I think he’s lost his way. Too bad — hate to say it, but Joel and Cinema Titanic seem to be the only ones who get it nowadays.

“Joel and Cinema Titanic seem to be the only ones who get it nowadays.”
While I dearly love CT, I must disagree here: WASP WOMAN was as uneventful a movie to riff as can be.

What Colossus and Mike Kelley said. Ocean’s 11 IMHO is very entertaining in that the movie and its players have a genuine sense of humor. Ex: Batman and Robin Clooney = horribly dull and a perfect punching bag. But Ocean’s 11 Clooney = guy you like and laugh with even as he’s being used as a punching bag. :p This OTOH is one RT teaser I didn’t laugh once during. And I’m on the other side of the coin since I love RT but agree that some of the choices lately seem very uneven. I especially still don’t get Memento as a target and am very curious how that one turned out/was handled as a RT if anyone cares to enlighten me.

While I agree that Ocean’s 11 probably wasn’t the best choice for the reasons given above, I think that Rifftrax is still better than CT, at least for now. In my opinion, CT has better potential, with slightly better writing firepower and access to laughably bad movies, but they haven’t gotten into their groove yet.

Actually, I think that “Wasp Woman” was a perfect choice for a film — but CT didn’t do a very good job on it. Still, the film itself was the essence of what MST3K used to use.
Isn’t the biggest point about MST3K that they make fun of a “cheesy” film? And, as we all know, cheese isn’t good unless it is aged, the longer the better. IMHO, any film that isn’t of drinking age doesn’t even begin to qualify, and a film that isn’t old enough to be president probably isn’t fair game.
Which is not to say that’s what RT has to do: I actually think Mike has chosen current films precisely because he doesn’t want to try and duplicate the MST3K experience. That’s fine — it’s his choice but I don’t have to support it (although I have purchased all the shorts which, oddly enough, DO seem to embody the MST3K ideal).

Yeah, I gotta agree with the bulk of the posts here. I like Rifftrax and have enjoyed a number of the riffs, but you’re telling me there aren’t enough new bad movies, they have to riff good ones like “Memento” and “Ocean’s”? Why haven’t they done either of the “Fast and the Furious” movies?

Maybe Mike just does a lot of these films because he knows a lot of people will already have these films on DVD, or won’t mind buying or renting them as stand alones, and won’t have to go looking for them or buy ones they won’t want without the Rifftrax. I haven’t seen ANY yet so I don’t know what they’re like. I haven’t gotten any because I haven’t laughed at any of the samples, not even a chuckle. I know you can’t base the entire thing on just those small samples, but what else do you base it on? If those are “highlights” (and you’d think, as in trailers, that that’s what those are) then, no thanks.
