Here’s the release.
Shout! Factory, in association with Best Brains, Inc., is proud to announce MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: VOL. XX will be released on March 8, 2011. Sit back — when you’re not doubled over with laughter, that is — for four classic episodes of this hilarious Peabody Award–winning series. Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo and your host Joel Robinson (Joel Hodgson) are back to riff on your … erm .. favorite movies and television series of yesteryear with all the TLC only the Satellite of Love crew can deliver. And for this XXth volume of the outstanding, groundbreaking series, we’re making it a very special Mystery Science Theater 3000 Joel-bilee. And you’re on the guest list!
The 4-DVD set includes 4 episodes never before released on DVD, Project Moonbase, Master Ninja I, Master Ninja II, and The Magic Voyage Of Sinbad. Through a special offer only from Shout! Factory, fans who order the set at shoutfactorystore.com will receive a free, limited-edition MST3K Stress Ball. [Please use the link at right.]
On Vol. XX’s Project Moonbase, the fate of the free world is in jeopardy when a trip to the Moon to begin establishing a U.S. military foothold in space uncovers a sinister foreign plot. In this classic episode from the series’ first official season, Joel, Tom Servo and Crow invite you to sit in and enjoy as they lovingly mock this sci-fi TV show gone awry, complete with: The wit! The laughter! And, of course, the SPACOM you’ve come to love over the last two and a half decades!
Also includes the shorts Commando Cody & The Radar Men From The Moon, Chapters 7 & 8, as well as bonus features including Exploring The Look Of MST3K With Director Of Photography Jeff Stonehouse, and the original trailer.Master Ninja I finds a Korean War veteran turned master ninja living in Japan who learns of a daughter back in America, and makes it his personal vow to find her despite the consequences of breaking the ninja code he swore to uphold many years ago. Get your tuning forks and pitch pipes ready! It’s time to warm up the ol’ vocal chords for an awful-ly hysterical rendition of Master Ninja’s very own theme song! Sing (and laugh) along with Joel and the Satellite of Love gang as they riff on not one, but two episodes of the series The Master starring Lee Van Cleef and Timothy Van Patten and featuring a young Demi Moore — a combination so deadly, it’ll kill you with laughter. Bonus Features include a new interview with Master Ninja guest star Bill McKinney.
In Master Ninja II, the ongoing adventures of the aging American ninja in search of his long-lost daughter do, in fact, go on . . . and so does the derisive discourse of our MST3K team of “expert”commentators. As if riffing only two episodes of this Lee Van Cleef classic was enough! The crew aboard the Satellite of Love — Joel, Crow and Tom Servo — take on improv, the Cryptkeeper and, of course, two more hilarious episodes of The Master. Tom Servo Vs. Tom Servo Panel At Dragon*Con 2010 is offered here as a bonus feature.
In an effort to bring joy to his people, Sinbad takes off on a mission to find the elusive Bird of Happiness in the Russian morality tale, The Magic Voyage Of Sinbad. No movie is safe from the uproarious, laughter-inducing riffs of the SoL crew, and that goes double for Venice Film Festival Silver Lion Award–winners from Russia. But Joel, Crow and Tom are having their own awards ceremony. Can Magic Voyage Of Sinbad compete? Or, for that matter, survive? Bonus features include a new introduction by Trace Beaulieu, and Mystery Science Theater Hour Wraps.

I like it very much!

I wanted to see Servo vs. Servo, so that is great, along with a cool sounding documentary, makes it awesome. My only hope is that none of these special features contain the same background music that was used for the Invention Exchange special, because that music was very annoying.

I’m only buying BOTE just to get the complete episode (since the previous one had the comercial sign logos missing). I’ll probably rent the ISCWSLABMUZ disc, assuming it’s there, from Netflix just to see the animated menu (assuming these discs will have those at least).
Oh, and still looking forward to XX. Extras sound great. I wonder if any of the mini posters have been posted up yet? :D

I’ll buy Zombies if there’s any extras, I have it on disc already.
I have BOTE on tape, its one of my faves because I love Peter Graves. I will be buying the disc, because my tape is about worn out!

I’m going to have to wait until my birthday to get this set. Of course, I had to buy Beginning of The End recently before Shout! Factory’s press release. I have the rough cut of Magic Voyage of Sinbad. I so need a better copy of Project Moonbase.

It seems grossly inapropriate to have a special about Jeff Stonehouse on an episode he had nothing to do with. Let alone a set with only one episode he had anything to do with. Sad really.

Bill McKinney? Isn’t that the guy who played Rue McClanahan in ‘Final Justice’?
I wish they would ask him about THAT!

When are the Gamera is full of meat and good to eat titles coming out?

@ #11
I’m hoping for June or July (assuming they continue to space this year’s sets by apprx 3 months apart). But yeah, the Gamera set = my most anticipated boxset MST or otherwise this year.

The downside of the Gamera set is that the discs themselves will be made of turtle meat.

Why don’t Incredibly Strange Creatures and Beginning Of The End have nifty Steve Vance covers? And anybody know if those 2 DVDs will show up in stores?

wait a minute… for those of us who are starting to just download from iTunes… do we get the extras? i haven’t noticed any…

@14,
Brian from SF said there wasn’t time for Steve Vance posters and that these were very, very limited releases for those who don’t yet have them. They’re only available from shout’s website.

Ditto. These re-releases are bargain productions with limited sales projections so Shout! deliberately did not put many resources into them. Be glad the shows are back in print.

I still say we’re gonna see more re-releases based on how well these go.

I pre-ordered both DVDs. Might as well, as who knows what will happen in the long run.

Not sure if anyone noticed (or cared) but Timothy VanPatten won a Golden Globe a couple weeks ago for producing Boardwalk Empire. He’s totally bald now with a goatee, but his face was unmistakeably “Max Kell-uh”.

I didn’t watch the Golden Globes, but that’s nice to know.

I’m glad they are putting out some OOP titles, but doesn’t the price seem a little steep?
Ordering both of them even with the $5 off and adding in shipping is more than ordering Vol XX on Amazon (with free shipping) and that has 4 episodes to those 2 episodes.
To those who’ve ordered from Shout directly in the past – do they reduce their prices on their products after a while, or is it too risky to wait because this is the sort of thing that may not be around too long?

@ #22: Then if you have the patience to do so you might want to wait a little bit and get them from DeepDiscount or Amazon when the price is right.

#23> Normally there that is a good strategy. But in this case there is some question if they will ever be available anywhere other than Shout! Factory. The way I read things these are intention is Shout! Factory only because of the “limited production run.”

#24 is along with what I am thinking, #23 . These appear to be Shout ONLY releases. I even checked Amazon to see if there is a listing for these single releases and there is not. It comes out in 2 weeks and has no Amazon listing, while the next box set is listed makes me think it will not be available on Amazon.
That is why I was wondering what Shout’s pricing strategy was like.
Do they start out big and go down eventually? Do they start out small to sell as many as possible and then go up? etc.

I completely agree with #22 about the steep price. I’m relieved I have both of these from the Rhino years, and, though this will not be popular opinion, I’m sure, I’m also relieved they don’t have extras. That would force me to buy them and thoroughly irritate my wife.

Wasn’t the list price from Rhino $20 for single MST3K DVD releases when they were new? I believe it was.

Yeah, i think you’re right and $20 for a single has been the going price for a while. It makes sense to release already-released movies as singles since you might have rights problems with the other films in a set, but unfortunately it’s just not as economical.
