I now feel like a dope for buying these discs.

“I now feel like a dope for buying these discs.”
Yeah, but now you have them at home, commercial free to be watched at your leisure, with an extra sketch per movie. Not to mention the fact that you’re supporting your favorite ex-brains.

Plus one day they’ll no longer be available on hulu.com.

Really? I would have felt more like a dope for being Ryan Seacrest.

Cool, I guess. I have the DVDs, and I’d really wish that they could someday make more of these.

Darn It…for a second I thought that this was an announcement that they would be making NEW Film Crew DVDs. Well…back to what I was doing.

I had thought the same thing.

It would be nice to see some more Film Crew DVDs. Rifftrax is nice and all, but as Cinematic Titanic has shown, it’s a lot more fun to make riff on cheap crap.

Je ne regret rien. I bought the Film Crew disks as soon as each was available and they have given me much pleasure since. Free, now, streaming ? Yes, nice. But I feel that my money was well spent.
If you need to prioritize… Hollywood and Wongo are the best, Killers ( not available yet on hulu ) is good enough. As for Marathon… well the classic MST sword and sandal epics are materially better.
As always with FC, beware the host segments and the extra material…. they are weak.

Screw Hulu and its US-only availability

I actually think “Killers…” was the best one, followed by “Hollywood…”, “Marathon…” then “Wongo”. That’s how I would prioritize them.
Who’s right and who’s wrong, hmmm?

Yeah Wongo was my least favorite Filmcrew as well. I agree that the MST Hercules episodes are better than Marathon, but I still liked Marathon a heck of a lot, and much more than Wongo.
As for Hulu.com, I could really care less. I guess it’s good to give Film Crew some more exposure, but it won’t do much good since there is pretty much no chance that they are ever going to do anymore. I also agree that it’s a lot more fun to riff older films, and not at all fun to riff good films (and Rifftrax has quite a few really good films in their library). I guess that is probably why I have really only gotten into the Rifftrax shorts, and not the normal releases.

I also read the first few words of the announcement, and thought I would find out that the Film Crew was revived, and I could buy new dvds of their work. alas, it was not so…
I love the Film Crew, and I love that I can see Mike, Kevin, and Bill. I like their skits, I like the extras- I want more!! I guess I want my cake, eat it too, and then get- another big old cake!

I loved and have the Film Crew DVD’s, however, I don’t really wish to see its return (sorta).
I WOULD like to see it re-formatted and just be under the Rifftrax moniker. Why have Rifftrax AND Film Crew? Just call it Rifftrax DVD or something and be the same basic show.

A Rifftrax of a “good” film lets you enjoy the film in a completely different way.
Sure it’s fun.
I loved the Rifftrax for Raiders of the Lost Ark and LOTR, and I would classify those as good films.

“Wongo” was also my least favorite.
“Killers” was my favorite.
Even though the host segments weren’t great for the most part, they still performed a valuable function. The host segments allow you to connect with the riffers.

( Of course everything in my post was IMHO )
Wow, I am actualy very pleased to see that there is some breadth of opinion re Film Crew. I’ve been kind of sulky thinking they didn’t really find enough of an audience, but if there’s enough of an audience to have differences of opinions that’s good.
Suprised that there is not more love for Wongo. The roll call of celebrity pairings at the end is worth the price of admission alone ( but I really like that sort of thing). Maybe it’s too much of a chick-flick ? Having once been married to an arch-feminist, ( and having a teenage daughter ) I may be more well versed in certain topics than the average guy :o
Hollywood rocks my world… where to begin… the beatnick gangster, the shakespearean haggler, THE EXOTIC DANCERS… so much happens in that film and it is so very strange and tawdry ( i accuse my parents, all growed up ? )
Marathon…. my opinion IS partially colored by the absolutely extra awful extra material about the extra. Everytime I put it in the player I have to remind myself not to watch the extra extra material.
I hope that rifftrax is simply a way for them to stockpile enough cash to go back and make more filmcrew.
Garth : Sing out brother ( sibling ? ). CT could ( maybe even needs to ) learn a lot from Film Crew.

Yes ,the Film Crew extras are lame and not funny but that was the first time I seen Bill not as “Brain Guy” (must flush is golden boots persona out of my head).
Of the four, “The Giant of Marathon”, is my favorite just because badly dubbed Italian sword epics with a James Bond fight scene near the end (think Thunderball) is just beyond craptastic.
Rifftrax is good but I do need to see a variety once in awhile and doing a Film-Crew type movie under the RT name will suit the bill.

I don’t see why they can’t do more Film Crew DVDs. It really wasn’t all that more diffrent than what Mike had been doing for Legend Films with Plan 9 and Living Dead. I’m sure there are plenty of public domain flicks they could use. Just add the commentary track. They could probably do the host segments on a shoe string budget. I thought I had read somewhere that the original 4 had sold very well.

I doubt they’ll continue TFC, but it would be cool if they took it in a similar direction. Scrap the Bob Honcho crap and come up with a new host segment idea.

I’m also a little surprised that there isn’t more love out there for “Wongo” – I mean, doesn’t that one make you want to get up and DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say I’ve enjoyed the 3 FC’s I have and will pick up Marathon asap–I do agree however, with scrapping the “bob honcho” theme and going in a different direction. The whole situation reminded me of 3 guys who used to have a great job, lost it and ended up doing the same thing for a dull, crappy company. Come back, FC, and liven it up!!

About 30 minutes into “Wongo,” there is so (probably public domain) background music. I think it’s from either “The Creeping Terror” or “Firemaidens of Outer Space.” Does anyone else recognize it? What movie does it come from?

Ah! I woke up this morning with the answer. It’s the opening credits music to “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” I had watched the RiffTrax just two weeks ago.
