To be honest, my first reaction when I heard about Cinematic Titanic was concern and disappointment. Y’see, and this will all tie together, I found a CD awhile back, Nichelle Nichols’ OUT OF THIS WORLD. It’s basically her doing STAR TREK songs: there’s a STAR TREK theme with lyrics, an extended disco remix of ‘Beyond Antares,’ stuff like that. And to me it always feels like Nichelle’s saying, “Okay, fine! I’m an actress, I’m a singer, I can do all kinds of things, but all you want is STAR TREK, and I need the money, so…”
I was kinda worried at first Cinematic Titanic was the same thing for Joel. Vastly relieved to discover it isn’t. He’s found a way to put a new spin on it so it isn’t just the same thing all over again.
Now if we could just do something for Nichelle

Joel needs to start brining a fact sheet to these things and not hope the interviewer is up on his subject.
I really feel for the CT gang as they have to endure these promos to get the word out. You get a good idea of the sorry state of journalism when you read these.
Joel, Trace, Mary jo, J. Elvis, Frank, all deserved metals sometimes for what they must sit through, not with the movies, but with the press.
Bravo guys.

I thought the interview was pretty good. In this one, Joel really explained why they’ve abandoned the studio productions better. He also explained why CT has taken so long to release another DVD (i.e. they’re refining their act until it’s ready for release.) I agree that some of the interviews are kinda weak, but I thought this one was OK.

Hi guys. I’m a longtime fan of both MST3K and Cinematic Titanic. I’ve bought the DVDs and been to the shows. But it’s always tough when you do an interview with someone you really admire and know a lot about — because you’re not doing the interview for yourself. This wasn’t ultimately meant for CT fans. It’s to tell folks who might have seen MST3K once or twice about this newish, unfamiliar project that’s coming to town.
I thought there were some interesting bits in there I hadn’t heard before — like the show wheel. And Joel talking about doing a live MST3K. I also really wanted to replicate the way he talks — which rambles a bit, is quite dry, but is ultimately (as he would say) super charming.

I liked the interview. I heard some things I didn’t know and the questions and answers were interesting. You have to read the old stuff to get people who may not know everything about everything interested and up to date on the subject matter, and that’s fine. I hope to see the show when they come to Mesa, AZ in a couple months. Can’t decide which of the two they are doing to see though!

Good interview, Clay. I totally sympathize. When I met Joel after one of the shows, I totally stepped all over myself. Think “The Chris Farley Show” except more stupid.
