As previously announced, the VOD release for “Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny” is now available. [The burn-to-DVD version is coming soon.] Watch a sample and download it here.
No no no no no…don’t pass out on us now. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a new short…
I posted this on the RiffTrax forum but figured some of you might not see it there, so here it is again:
Hard to put into words how strongly I endorse downloading this. It’s rare that a movie fills us all with the same kind of giddy joy that this does (the room, the happening) are just a few examples.
We’ve been waiting to do this one since we discovered it last December. It was too late to put it out for Christmas that year, but I’m delighted we got to do it this year.
Also, unless you want to be left out of understanding the countless inevitable references to it in future RiffTrax, I think you should probably get this one right away. Unless you want your predicament to lack its usual cheer.

Wow…that was a trip to hell and back! Now I can die and say “I have truely seen it all!”

Looks good, but I’ll wait for the burn-to-DVD version. I like to keep my nightmare fuel close at hand. Keep us posted as to when it’s available.

My brain has exploded and is leaking through my ears. What the hell did I just watch here? That made “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” look well-made and coherent!!! Goodfrickinggrief!!!

Thanks for putting this out, Conor. I’m putting the .mpg on a disk right now. I love Christmas riffs.

I’ve always wanted see Rifftrax or CT tackle ‘Santa And The Ice Cream Bunny’. That one is ‘Manos’ level bad. Probably worse.

Screw it _ I bought it and am downloading the divx file right now. Forgot how many viewing options RT offers. “VOD” suggests “streaming” to me, not mpeg/divx files. Besides, my TV’s broken and I need something to watch tonight, even if it’s on my laptop.

Hurry! Christmas is Saved! Or ruined depending how bad the nightmare these two films will give you.

Say how soon is Download-to-Burn (DVD .iso) coming and which is better? Video or DVD? I’m not sure if I should wait or get now.

@9 – The dload to burn should be up before 11PM PST. Which is better depends on how you prefer to watch. You could burn the VOD mpg to a disc and watch it, but the D2B iso is encoded at a higher bitrate…not that it really matters with a movie source as ugly as this one was. So it really is up to you.

Just watched it. Hilarious! One of the best Rifftrax entries ever. On par with MST classics.

Watched it.
Woah.

Oh… my… god… This was one of the funniest I have ever seen. The poor quality of the original movie’s soundtrack is a pain at times (the children’s songs sound like mush) but the riffing is brilliant on this one. From the Truman Capote line to Kevin’s screaming I watched the entire thing in both fits of laughter and complete horror at the animal costumes.
PS – thanks mst3kinfo for noting the short. I didn’t see it when I downloaded the movie today and am going back to buy.
now…. sleeeeeeeeep!

We were rolling on the floor when the Ice Cream Bunny arrived and Bill made that noise as it was bobbing its evil head up and down.

Right before Christmas, and my only vision of Santa now is of a dirty pantsed, sweaty bum too lazy to get off his sleigh and brush off the whole inch of sand in which he is stuck.
I did think Thumbellina was “hot” though!

Horrifying beginning and ending with a cute Thumbalina chick tucked in the middle. An utterly bizarre and fundamentally empty presentation.

@ #14:
Seconded! It’s after midnight and I’m trying not to wake my family with my chokes of laughter. I… just… don’t even know what’s going on what is this

When i first saw this years ago i didn’t even consider that i’d ever see it riffed by the masters. It was TOO weird and obscure, even for CT or RIFFTRAX(who were still focusing on mainstream hits at the time)
This is a Christmas dream come true!
First the Star Wars ’78 Holiday special … now Santa vs. The Ice Cream Bunny!!
Keep it up guys! This is great … downloading right now! 85% finished! :)

Brilliant, just brilliant — when I could hear it.
As it too often the case with the pre-burned riff commentaries a lot of Bill, Mike & Kevin’s comments were mixed too low! Not all of them, of course, but whenever the movie got loud, they definitely got lost in the sound mix.
This is such a silly problem to have — are they really afraid we’ll miss something vital? In Santa Clause and the Ice Cream Bunny??

OK, I just spent another $10 for the download-to-burn version.
I’ve got to stop jumping the gun on these if download-to-burn is a standard option.
Hopefully the sound will be better too because this was one of the funniest Rifftrax ever.

Sorry the sound isn’t to your liking Gummo. The audio was easily the worst I’ve ever had to work with at Rifftrax, so I really had to settle for a happy medium on it or spend an obscene amount of time on it adjusting the individual riffs. Your speakers could have something to do with it too, because it didn’t really sound THAT bad on the speakers or headphones I work on.

Thanks for responding, Casey — I really appreciate that you folks at Rifftrax take the time & trouble to listen and respond to our comments.
Even as I type this, I am burning the download-to-burn version and have high hopes for it. And offhand, I have to say that 80-85% of the riffs were fine. It was just when they tried to riff over the really shrill stuff that they got lost.
(I just realized that if you did the engineering on this, you must have had to watch it over & over & over…. may the Ice Cream Bunny have mercy on your soul!)

I never heard of this film…but I heard on how bad it was I had to watch it w/ the MST3k making fun of it.
Just wow….incredibly funny and good writing guys.

Just had a friend over to watch the movie although I’ve already watched it four times so far. Even after all those viewings it didn’t lose a laugh. My friend’s Xmas present? Ten Rifftrax DVDs (purchased, not copied). It was nice to know that I was not only helping to make someone happy but also supplying money towards more bacon for Mike Nelson.

Just finished it. Wow. Just… wow. I have not experienced shock and awe at a movie to such a degree since Turkish Star Wars.

This is my first rifftrax purchase (Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny). I purchased the “download to burn” but it is taking over 8 hours to d/l all three parts (each). That seems improbable. Is there anyone who can help me view this without having to wait this amount of time—it is rather unreasonable
I am sorry if this was mentioned and discussed before. This is my first purchase with Rifftrax. I emailed Support but I guess it’s too late . . .

@ vijay – The download to burn sections are pretty big. Plus it depends on your mode of download (cable, dial up, etc.). I know it once took me four hours to DL. I’m not an expect and I fear the Rifftrax people are home for the holidays.

oops… meant “expert.” Epic fail.

Thank you Dr. Carlo
Much appreciated your response. :-)
4 hours would be wonderful here. I thought I could d/l this
and we could watch it tonight with my wife. Started at 5:00PM and it is
10:13PM and still there is 3 hours ago (for each part!!)
We have a DSL service which is the “fastest” but I dont know anything
about download rate–but sadly this is getting frustrating and annoying
happy holidays Doctor.

I don’t have a DVD burner on my computer, so I just got inventive. I got my old VHS camcorder out, set it up in front of the monitor and recorded the DIVX version on video tape. Then I transfered that by hooking the camcorder to my DVD recorder. It actually turned out very good. Now if only someone would make a nice DVD cover for the case.

So I purchased the VOD, and had it on as I read over The Agony Booth’s recap, when I realized Rifftrax used an edited version of S&tICB. The recap notes two other musical numbers, one before Thumbelina was kidnapped and another around the time she meets the bird-bug-things, both of which are not present in the riffed version. If Conor’s still hanging around, I have to ask: did Rifftax just get their hands on an edited copy of the film, or were these numbers purposefully edited? (presumably to save us from more of Thumbelina’s ear-piercing trilling)
It’s not a huge deal – the results are still hilarious, even if I will never be able to shake the horrifying images of Santa’s sweaty pants from my mind – but inquiring minds wish to know.

I left my computer on overnight to download all three parts of this
“download to burn” DVD. When my wife extracted it, it says
“file is broken” for Part 2 and Part 3.
Very disappointed and frustrated with this service. As a first-time
user, I will not be using this again. Too much work for so much of
my money.
And would like my $10 back most importantly!!

Vijay,
No association with RT other than a customer. Did you try downloading the complete ISO file instead of the rar files? Also, may want to just delete the old part two and try redownloading it (you get unlimited dls of your files). Might want to try that first I guess.

Also I’ve had better luck in the past downloading each file one at a time, rather than all 3 at once. No science behind it but it seems, or at least feels to go faster.

Vijay,
I had the same trouble with a couple that I have downloaded as well. The problem (I believe) is that the files are so large any slight interruption can cause an issue. I totally agree with MSTJon to download one section at a time, not all sections at once. It’s a pain but when I did that it made all the difference.
I stopped messing with downloading parts a while ago. For Ice Cream Bunny I downloaded as a divx file, converted it to .avi using VisualHub and then used Toast to burn to a DVD. (for those of you that are going to jump in… yes, don’t need to convert to .avi, I just have had issues in the past burning divx to disc).

Thank you Doctor and mstjon, but the files are just WAY to large. It’s difficult
to let my computer sit literally all night. D/L one part takes 8 parts.
I only have the option of downloading an .iso or a .rar file (3 parts). Sorry, dont
know about any divx file, But then again, this stuff is not my forte.
ugh. . . well thank you guys anyways.

Vijay, and anyone else who reads this site: if you email support@rifftrax.com you will probably get a helpful response very quickly. Response time is obviously not going to be as quick over the holidays. Posting here is not efficient, as it depends on fellow readers, who helpful and knowledgeable as they may be, are not getting paid to help you and may not be as dependable.
Your problem sounds like interrupted downloads. I would delete the RAR files that gave you the error and download again, or just download the ISO file that you can burn right away, that’s what I did. The files are quite large and will take a while on slower connections, but there’s not really any way around that, you are downloading a DVD.
@brainchild, we were going to do this for a live show, so cut some parts that were not conducive to riffing, the songs tend to be hard to get a word in during.
