    Thanks for the info!

Is it just me, or is March a little later than the previous release in the cycle? ISTR the first set of the year coming out in late January or early February (though I could very well be wrong)…

  2. Matt D. says:

That’s interesting Johnny and you may be right about that. But when I saw the news about March, my first thought was that they are speeding up their releases. Again though, I could be way off, but that was my initial reaction. Either way, yay for an official release date, and bring on the extras.

No, I’m almost positive they’ve been coming out in March, July, and November every year since Shout Factory started releasing the volumes (exactly 4 months apart every time). I would be good money that Volume 21 will come out on July 5th or 12th. (Sorry if this comment was submitted twice).

It should be noted that Amazon is currently selling it for $41.99 at the time of this writing, but that the list price is the usual nearly $60. That means the price will likely fluctuate up and down before release as is invariably the case at Amazon. $41.99 is usually about the cheapest they get before release on these MST3K sets. The price often goes up for a while shortly after the release date, so now is a good time to grab it if you can.

I always do the pre-order through Amazon. They will lower your price if their price goes down before actual release.

Yet again, I must thank Shout Factory for releasing my two favorite episodes of any TV show ever: Master Ninja I and Master Ninja II.

As promised, I will be purchasing 2 copies!

  17. Ugh. I’m watching Master Ninja 1 for the first time. I can tell I would despise this movie if it weren’t for J&tBs. Total cringe-fest. Poor, embarrassed Lee Van Cleef. He should have given the writer a taste of his katana vengeance. Instead, he apparently showed up for a sequel.

Can’t wait to see what XXI will look like and the release date.

  19. My bad, I see that Manster Ninja I&II were just another cobbled-together short-lived teevee show. I did not know that. That makes them even more horrid to behold.

  24. If Shout owns THE MASTER rights to release the MASTER NINJA episodes, I hope they release the original show on DVD. It was pretty good.

The extras on this one will be weird. I doubt they could track down any cast/crew members from Project: Moonbase or The Magic Voyage of Sinbad. Perhaps (if he has a REALLY good sense of humor) Timothy Van Patten would do a interview but I kind of doubt he would.

I hope the GAMERA box set features at least clips from the KTMA versions as extras.

  27. Weepy Donuts says:

If Shout! Factory continues to produce figures for every third release, I wonder if the Gamera collection will be released in November 2011 with a lil’ Gamera. (Although I don’t want to wait that long to watch them.)

  28. Sharktopus says:

I really like the simplicity and uniformity of Shout’s boxset designs – I much prefer them to the random hodgepodge style of Rhino’s boxes – but after seven near-identical releases I think it’s time to update them. Presumably the all-Gamera set will look different; that would make a good opportunity to freshen up the look.

These sets also are keeping my Roman numeral skills from getting rusty – just one more service to add to the long list for which to thank Shout Factory.

  29. Captain Cab says:

Love the Steve Vance mini posters but has anyone noticed he draws Crow with the exact same weird gaping-mouth-wide-open expression on almost every single one of them? Anyways, looking forward to this one but hopefully they’ll be able to get the Gamera box out by this summer. I actually wish they’d have bumped it to volume 20 instead considering what a coup it is they got the rights and how much more desirable (IMHO) that particular set is.

  30. Trenner Dios says:

Captain Cab, I noticed that too. He never, ever has his mouth closed, and Tom’s is usually open too, except on one or two like Racket Girls. I’m not trying to nit-pick either, as I love the posters, but it’s also fun to notice how inconsistent the size and transparency of Tom’s bubble is from poster to poster. It’s humongous on “Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy” and Zombie Nightmare, and tiny on “Robot Monster” and “Blood Waters of Dr. Z”. It’s also completely transparent on “Mad Monster” but other times it’s translucent, or completely opaque.

I preordered too. But I have to point out that Erhardt posted this, not Sampo. C’mon, the guy posts so rarely that we’ve gotta give him some props whenever he does.

The guy from Shout! stated on another board that there will not be a toy with the Gamera set. I wonder if you could find one on some Japanese eBay?

John H. and Laura–sorry to hear you guys are still out of work! tough times out there and i should count my blessings.

  36. Mr. B(ob) says:

There are many Gamera toys out there. I bought a small one to set on my desk years ago. Shout! Factory will not be doing anything like that though per Brian Ward. The licensing fees and all that would probably be a nightmare. As a MSTie, all I need from Shout! are the shows. Other “junk” can be gotten other ways if someone really wants it.

  37. Captain Cab says:

    ^^^

I have the sweet Japanese theater exclusive “burning first” Gamera figure from Gamera vs Irys. I’m a huge Gamera fan both MST’ied and non-MST’ied. But no way would I want Shout to tempt Daiei’s wrath and possibly botch the deal made with the American rights holder by trying to make a figure (remember, they *had to go around both Sandy Frank AND Daiei* to do this). Even a ‘lil “Tibby” figure in a fishbowl would be too risky in potentially gaining their unwanted attention IMHO. Do you have any idea how deadly serious Japan takes both its giant monsters and the toy sales they generate? Just be glad we’re getting this miracle of a box set.

    Trenner Dios:

Glad to see I’m not the only one, and yes I’ve also noticed the weird differences in Tom’s dome on some of the covers.

  38. Zbu says:

Actually, if anything, I would love for the KTMA rule to be circumvented for the Gamera Set and for the KTMA episodes to be released as extras if possible. I know it’s nearly impossible, but that would be awesome to have.

It’s kind of weird but every once in a while I get some kind of cosmic vibe that says ‘now is a good time to stop by the big box retailer and see if any new MST3K sets are out’. In fact, most of the time I get there just in time to buy the last copy but it’s funny how I don’t seem to need a specific date, I just show up at the right times. But since I somehow got it in my head to check first online for a change, I think I’ll preorder and rob the big box of it’s big price. I think they see me coming and mark up the price.
