So,the Syfy channel are showing these campy god awful movies when they could’ve just had MST3K another year, huh? Here’s an idea: Why not have Mike,Kevin and Bill host these movies? Or you could have Joel,Frank and Trace host it another time? Also, why is the Syfy channel still showing wrestling anyway? What does that have to do with science fiction? If they’re no longer showing it,then I wouldn’t know, since I no longer watch the channel anymore.

I have to agree with Gary.
The SciFi (SyFy ???) Channel has had noting worth watching for years.

I like the idea of the movies they show, but, no matter how “outlandish” they get, I always find movies on Psyfigh quite boring. I never like their movies anymore, I try watching a few, can’t get into them, so I usually just don’t bother.
In short, they suck.

Someone once asked me, “What is the worst film you ever saw?”
I answered, “Whatever’s playing on ScyFy on Saturday night.”

I know Dre is definitely on a solid start to his 3rd and last album release! The newest song, called Kush, has got Snoop Dogg & Akon featured on it, and it’s a hood banger! Detox has been the most anticipated album for many years and I know that it will exceed my expectations!

I download some of those SyFy Channel movies only if they seem bad enough and riff them on my own. Sometimes I actually wish MST3K was still around so that they could rip them to shreds.

I don’t mind the wrasslin so much as the reality shows.
At least wrasslin is characters with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Idiots running around a grimy building is just boring.

I don’t even think SYFY has SciFi anymore.
I’d like to see another Fantasy network start up and show old classic SciFi shows. Kind of like Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

I always thought, if SciFi/SyFy was smart, they could have had a great engine for self-perpetuation. Bad movie at 8pm, then MST3K at 10. The next week, new bad movie at 8pm, then MST3K riffing on the previous weeks offering at 10pm.
I once had a guy mention the lack of a Turkey Day marathon made him sad. I told him they still have it. It’s whenever SyFy has their marathon.

Since I was lucky enough to get the SciFi Channel from the day it launched in 1992, it’s sad to see the vast wasteland of reality shows and wrestling it’s become. Although I kind of like that new show, Hollywood Treasure. Imagine if some iconic props or costumes from the likes of This Island Earth or even Manos turn up?
I felt a little bad for Caprica fans, since they got jerked around by uncaring manipulative network suits the way MSTies did.
On the flip side, I saw a promo last night for “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files” which promises to beat the dead horse conspiracy loony theory about the Moon landings some more. I wanted to go all Elvis on my poor tv!

The original programming, with very few exceptions, is the reason why SyFy is a hollow shell of its former self. One of the exceptions was Battlestar Galactica, and if Ron Moore and David Eick hadn’t kept creative control the empty suits would’ve ruined that also. If the executives were smart they’d get the rights to show the more obscure sci-fi films that are worth watching but rarely seen on tv. The good stuff MIGHT be shown on holidays (like the original Twilight Zone) but otherwise the channel is a waste of time. I’ve kept my old MST tapes, some of the old sci-fi channel commercials keep the nostalgia alive.
#12-You can’t fight crazy, the horse is dead but the wild-eyed conspiracy nutjobs keep injecting the Umbrella Corporation’s T-virus into the horse.

What I find really disgraceful about SyFy is what I also found disgraceful about SciFi: Namely, that they edit/cut episodes of classic tv series to the point of making them unwatchable.
When you MUST have 15 minutes of commercials in a 30 minute program, you don’t leave much of a story.
Just watch the next Twilight Zone episode for an illustration. Not to mention what they did with Night Gallery (cutting 1 hour episodes to fit in 1/2 hour slot, etc.).
And yes, their original movies are awful, along with the “reality” crap.
For Thanksgiving, they had a James Bond marathon. How science fiction-ie of them. Blech.

Sharktopus is a thinly disguised retread of Devil Fish. I hope the DF people sue and make SyFy pay for the remake rights.

The Twilight Zone episodes were being gutted long before SciFi got the rights. I’m surprised they ran on WGN uncut as long as they did.
As for 007, one can argue there are SciFi elements to many of the films. Starlog magazine covered the Bond films extensively back in the day, and nobody seemed to mind. I’ll take a Bond marathon over wrestling anytime! :)

While I agree whole-heartedly about the lousy “reality” TV aspect of the channel, I’ll admit I’m a SyFy Original Movie addict. I love “Sharktopus”, “Dinocroc”, “Snakehead Terror” etc. But as GregS says above, the amount of commercials packed into any 2 hour block on SyFy is mind numbing. The key is to Tivo these fun films, then fast forward as needed.

I can understand becoming addicted to Syfy Original Movies. I just watched my recording of “Triassic Attack” and it was hilarious. Cheezy effects, outrageous Native American stuff. A complete dinosaur skeleton exhibited in an Indian “trading post” (I don’t know where the flying one came from, maybe from an exhibit in the lobby of the local high school). Dakota the the proud and passionate Native American: “I thought I could reverse the spell by writing it backward, but I was wrong.” If other Syfy original movies are as MST-able as this one, I’m trying some more. Any other suggestions of past ones you liked? I see they’re all listed on the website.

The SyFy movies are bad, but entertaining. “Mosquito” is very cheesy, and the out-of-print dvd goes for $95.
