We are slowly unspooling all the stuff we got at Comic-Con. Here is a page of people in costumes that I shot…with my camera, though perhaps the other thing might have been more merciful…
One other note: The Episode Guide entry for this week will be delayed until this afternoon.
I hope there is room in this world of ours for people that are really into MST3K, but who none-the-less find comics people creepy, disturbing and maybe just a little bit sad.
Except for the devil gal of course, she’s HOT. Let’s take another peak, won’t you ? wow
Why can’t MST3K be associated with a film festival or a book fair, or maybe a university seminar on post-modern humor, instead of a latex ren-fest ?
Wow I’m cranky this morning, better take another peak oops
ah that’s better. Sorry about this bile, comics people are great, life is good and please, give my best wishes to EVERYBODY.
…and the mst3k crew made fun of Ren-fests.
“One of these things is not like the others…”
How did Speed Racer get into the TARDIS?
( sorry for the double post, not exactly sure how that happened )
I’m not a medium,
Your posts were being marked as spam for some reason, which is why they weren’t showing up. I de-spammed them and deleted the second post. It happens on occasion.
Very interesting, Doc, thx ( I’ll try not to take it personally ). Sorry for the trouble and thanks for the clean up.
I’m not a medium, I’m a petite:
Thank you for making me laugh out loud! You rock!
yeah the comics-fanatics kind of freak me out too, but my mst3k addiction freaks my wife out, so who am I to say–I will say, though, that Mrs “Incredible” really is!!
It’s a shame to think that there are so many empty medieval dungeons out there with no one enjoying their accomadations. These costumed people would seem like perfect candidates to be locked away with heavy shackles in darkness, fed only some stale bread when the guards remember they exist.
As a “comics person” I feel obligated to point out that the people in these pictures are the extreme, and unfortunately, the extreme is all people seem to recognize. Most uf us have not been in a costume since Halloween when we were 12 years old. MST3K fans and the majority of comic fans really are not that different at all.
The fierce warrior is in fact #24 from “Venture Bros.” He doesn’t look enough like Jerry Seinfeld to completely pull it off, but he did a fine job nonetheless.
Love the Venture Brothers!!
Why is dressing up and having fun anything that people have to apologise for?
All these people who are making fun of these guys would change their tune if it was a parade of Torgos or Forresters! “How sad” would turn into “So cool” !
The Venture Brothers Monarch henchman costume is terrific.
Mighty Drew (#10) All I can speak for are the several comics people in my life, some of them very close to me, and each and every one of them is, on a good day, crazier than a sack of rabid weasels.
Crow13 (#9) you’re getting a little dark there buddy.
Bathtub (#13 ) no one is asking anyone to apoligize for anything. But keep in mind that people known for dressing up and having a ‘good time’ include ( I’d better stop right here before I get myself in trouble )
John (#14) You have my solemn oath as a middle aged digit head that I would be even more disturbed by fans dressed up as MST characters. But I have to admit that I wouldn’t mind owning the suit that Groucho Marx wore in Cocoanuts, or that John Astin wore in the Addams Family… uh oh…
There but for the grace of slightly better social skills go I.
Though I’ve seen Elvis-Stormtrooper before on last year’s coverage of Comic Con on G4, Zombie Hulk is a new one on me… and I approve whole heartedly! That said, I think I’ll reserve my Batman costume for Halloweens only.
“I’m not a medium”:
How could I possibly make make any valid argument when rabid weasels are involved? You win, this time…
M. Drew: Yes indeed, we must all remain humble in the presence of Mother Hitton’s Littul Kittons.
Anyway spoken like a gentleman ( in a gender non-specific sense ), and the next battle may well be yours !
What I have never understood is, why is it that people who have an interest in something ‘fun’ seem to strive to extract all the joy out of it. A conversation with such a person becomes impossible, as you find yourself condescendingly corrected on minutiae on the ‘fun’ subject by someone who seems to have NO sense of humor at all- even if they are dressed colorfully or outlandishly as a character, etc. This is why I avoid Ren Faire [or whatever they are CORRECTLY called]. I was taken to one and thought ‘oh, this will be fun’ and about half and hour later contemplated leaping the fence to the parking lot. The air of righteousness was smothering… why have ‘fun’ if you remove all the fun?
Although I may be exposing my naivete, I am always concerned that this will happen to my favourite thing since 1992, Mystery Science Theater 3000. That all the joy this show brings will be extinguished by the endless droning of a million ‘Comic Book Guys’ arguing/flaming each other reciting endless facts and figures in order to prove who loves the show the most.
I love MST3K for the same reason as I love, say, the Marx Brothers or the Sex Pistols. I can ESCAPE righteousness and rigidity, smugness and pedantry. The show gives me the great gift of laughter at society, at reality, and ESPECIALLY at myself. I included the Sex Pistols because, like the Marxes, they were essentially a vaudeville act. And when I saw them, I- LAUGHED! At myself, at the audience, at them, at the whole damn thing. Laughed at how wonderfully silly it all was; this thing that is often so painful, called being alive.
No, no- you can’t take that away from me.
Haha… I would image the Hutt is actually a prop for that girl’s Leia costume… if so then she is HARDCORE!
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
