How is this on-topic (besides the fact that most MSTies are generally into this kinda show)? Well, to begin with, the teaser promo mentions MST3K by name, sort of.
But also, alert reader “GornCaptain” has pointed us to this story, which reports that “there will be 26 episodes in all showcasing movies like ‘The Killer Shrews,’ ‘Attack of the Giant Leeches’ and ‘Manos, the Hands of Fate’.”
Three for three.
I haven’t dug around too much yet but if anybody knows of a complete list of the movies she’ll be doing somewhere on the Web, please let us know.
Thanks to Ben Hall in the comments for this list:
Night of the Living Dead, The Terror, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Giant Gila Monster, Scared to Death, Werewolf of Washington, Eegah!, Untamed Women, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Satanic Rights of Dracula, I Eat Your Skin, Don’t Look in the Basement, Teenagers From Outer Space, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, Lady Frankenstein, Manster, Wild Women of Wongo, A Bucket of Blood, Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric, Tormented, The Wasp Woman, Beast From the Haunted Cave, The Killer Shrews, Monsters From a Prehistoric Planet, Attack of the Giant Leeches and Manos, The Hands of Fate.
Okay, that makes a total of eight (plus one Film Crew and one Cinematic Titanic title) out of 26. Not quite so tragic.
EDIT: I should add, that’s our Akron affiliate. It may be different in other areas.

I think we’re ALL familiar with Elvira’s “titles”.

I caught Wolfman Mac once a month or so ago on RetroTV. It was interesting in its own way but I’m not in any rush to see it again.
“However, I simply can not imagine anyone bringing anything new to riffing, or being as good and funny as MST3K. IMHO, even FC/RT/CT couldn’t pull it off.”
I enjoyed The Film Crew, Mike Nelson’s solo commentaries and what little I’ve seen from RiffTrax (the shorts DVDs & some of their Star Wars riffs). I’ve only seen one CT movie (Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks) and wasn’t impressed enough to get anything more, but I’ll probably give them another chance some day.
I think it’s possible for someone else to come along and be as good as MST3K at riffing a movie, but the problem I personally have is that I’m so used to Mike, Joel, Kevin, Trace & the rest that everything I hear now from anyone else simply sounds like people trying to imitate MST. At least when I hear Trace or Bill or Kevin, I can picture Crow & Servo sitting there saying the lines, but some guy I never heard of (and I’m directing that towards things I’ve seen online) trying to be funny just doesn’t work for me because there are no “characters” to the voices, just people throwing-out one-liners.
If I could hand-pick people to riff a movie that I think could produce something entertaining, I’ld go with Kevin Smtih, Billy West and Mike Judge (as Beavis & Butthead).

I count 9: Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Giant Gila Monster, Eegah!, SCCTM, Teenagers From Outer Space, Tormented, Killer Shrews, Attack of the Giant Leeches and Manos.

Am I the only onle offended by the promo?
“Before Mystery Science…. whatever you call it.”
Is it really that hard for non-fans to remember the title?

For Larry or anyone who gets This-TV on WUAB 43.2 in Cleveland/Akron I got this answer from their web site.
Hello! Thank you for watching this TV! We are showing Elvira’s Movie Macabre on a two week delay from the sydication airing. Elvira’s Movie Macabre will being the week of October 4th 2010 and air on This TV at Sundays @ 5AM EST and Monday at 1AM EST. Hope we answered your question!
You think they could have come up with better times, but at least it will be on.

Hey – when are the Titans going to do Jesse James vs Frankenstein’s Daughter. They would have a field day with this stupid film – after all, it’s mistitled (remember, she’s Frankenstein’s GRANDDAUGHTER!) and directed by the infamous One Shot Beaudine. How can they not do this film?
Oh well, Elvira will do it justice. The DVD has Joe Bob Briggs, who was funny and actually imparted some useful information.
Almost wish I still had the cable. But then, my area is covered Time (no-we-are-not-available-at-this-time-please-hold-for-the-next-ten-hours) Warner (following Adelphia’s self implosion), so it’s not like I’m desperate to get it back.

I just checked my Cablevision channel line-up, and I can’t find WPIX.2, and they dropped WPHL maybe 10 years ago. It’s the same old problem; you can’t get the channels you’d like, but you’ll get 10 versions of each channel you’re not interested in.
On top of that, WPIX’s website doesn’t even mention that WPIX.2 even exists. What, do you need some kind of secret password to get the channel? Makes me feel nostalgic for the days when you just had one channel per station and all you needed was a good antenna to get them.
Then again, maybe someone will start circulating the tapes…

My local station showed it at 12:30 am last week. This week it’s 2 AM WTH

Oh wait. How about the guy in Hobgoblins who’s addicted to
phone sex and making out with Fantasia? Not one funny
moment in his time on screen.
It almost makes you wish someone would invent a time machine
and go back and kick director Rick Sloane in the shins.

@61
Uh, that’s how Rick Sloane got the idea for “Hobgloblins.” A small, red robot kicked in the shins. Though how that was done, escapes me.

I found the program on my Time Warner DVR guide (The CW channel) and set it to record. Instead of Elvira, all I got was an episode of “The Closer” already in progress. I’m not even going to bother wasting the electricity to record something that may or may not be on.

So we can have *this* in first-run syndication but no MST, Film Crew, Rifftrax, or Cinematic Titanic…? With the same movies, no less.

It’s on CW, Big Al…you just need to set the DVR to record a little wider time slot, because they are very sloppy about start times late at night. Set your DVR to start recording at least 5 minutes early and keep recording at least fifteen minutes after the scheduled time slot.

I’m in Burlington, VT and the first one of these airs 10/10 at 5:00 A.M. according to my Tivo. It’s on the This network, which is 5.2 (WPTZ’s secondary station, broadcast TV). Hope that helps some people. Tivo has been correct when I’ve recorded other things on this station, so I’ve got high hopes that it’ll pull through and record Elvira on Sunday.

I set the VCR (yes, some of us neo-Luddites still use a VCR) and recorded Elvira’s “Giant Gila Monster”. This movie must be in the public domain, because she managed to get just about the worst copy I’ve seen. On a par with the picture and sound quality of MST3K’s #101–The Crawling Eye. Anyway, fast-forwarding through the commercials and her less than rapier-like wit (a quantity nearing a half-wit) the only thing I was impressed by were the subtitles they provided for Lisa. Elvira’s pop-ups did provide a few comments that I did find amusing (the one that comes to mind is her observation that the budget was so low they had to get a little boy in drag to play the lead’s “little sister”). I don’t think I’ll be wasting any more time or tape on this program.

Ever since I saw this posting a week plus ago, I’ve been looking through my listings trying to find it. Allegedly it’s on KAYU here is Spokane, but Elvira is nowhere to be seen! :-? God, I hope they didn’t cancel her already!

They showed Brain That Wouldn’t Die last night. I must say, I’m getting quite addicted to this show! It’s nice to see these movies in syndication again, even if they do look like they were downloaded from the Internet Archive. My local station showed Star Trek 3 after it last night at 2am, and that made for a fun evening.
