I love the shorts a lot so this is a wonderful thing!! You know, drugs are like that, too.

I’m assuming the shorts are “public domain”? Is there any chance Rifftrax would issue a DVD of these shorts in the near future?

The shorts are all public domain. I’d say it’s highly likely that a DVD of these shorts will be released in the near future. There’s a demand for it on the Rifftrax Roundtable and after July is done there will be over 20 shorts in the catalog.
I wonder if Legend will colorize the B&W shorts (like Act Your Age and Petaluma Chicken) for the DVD release. I know some people don’t like colorization, but I think it looks interesting. Plus, I know they’ll include the original B&W shorts as bonus features. I’m guessing it would take less time to colorize, since many of the shorts are already in color.

Ford Prefect: Are you just speculating or will there REALLY be a dvd of all the Rifftrax shorts? Because that would be SO COOL. I really was disappointed when Film Crew stopped making dvd’s and since I have no desire to rent a crappy movie everytime I want to hear Mike/Kevin/Bill’s commentary (or actually BUY them- who wants a collection of horrible videos on their shelf WITHOUT the commentary already on them?) I’m glad to hear even a rumor that there may be another dvd in the works from these guys.

Someone had commented earlier that it seemed as if Kev, Mike, and Bill were just picking new movies and riffing on them even if they didn’t deserve to be riffed on… 300, for example, deserved to be riffed on. The 6th Sense, however, really didn’t. The whole RiffTrax ideal seems to be loosing what was held so dear in the hearts of the MST3K fans, which was BAD movies deserve to be made fun of. In that regard, Cinematic Titanic seems to be “Getting it right”.
I’m not saying new movies don’t deserve riffs. And I realize “bad” is in the eye of the beholder… but there are a slew of terrible 80’s and 90’s movies out there just begging for a commentary track.
I feel the shorts go back to their roots. Incredibly ridiculous premises wound up in messages so simple, it shouldn’t take the 15-20 min’s of a short to explain them. With these, it’s win every time. With these, it’s a Mr. Clean shine, every time.
Heck, if you wanted to go so far, you could grab some TV episode DVD’s from the 80’s and have at it!
The shorts are a breath of fresh air, and extremely appreciated. But with the movies, I think they need to be less “current” and more “retro”.
My opinion! Regardless, RiffTrax’s is appreciated and loved, and I’m very thankful it exists. 300’s track made me laugh so hard I cried…
“THIS… IS… PART OF A BALANCED BREAKFAST!!”

I’ve noticed on their shorts, at least the ones i downloaded, that it drops audio every time they make a comment. This is a little annoying and I wish they didn’t do that. They work better when you sync them up with the short the old fashioned way.

Huzzah!
The shorts have been fantastic (“One Got Fat” still gives me the heebie-jeebies). I would KILL for a DVD. If not, putting non-DRM shorts up for download (I’m getting a new video iPod) would be great too.

@The Mouka
All of our shorts have been DRM-free for some time now, and all will be released that way in the future. You will be able to put them on your ipod as soon as you get it. A DVD of collected shorts is something that we are planning on having available eventually.

Conor,
So I can go back and download mp4s of the all of the DRM-encoded DiVX shorts that I bought earlier?

Are there any plans to do any more Film Crew movies or are they just sticking with RiffTrax?
