@Patrick, oh, okay; I know that theater. Actually harder to get to from where I work than the others, but I’m glad there was such a great turnout. To be fair, I got in my seat literally 20 seconds before the show started, so it’s pretty hard to estimate attendence in the pitch dark. It felt like less than at the Christmas show, but I could be wrong. 50% maybe? So not too bad.

@84 ReptilianSamurai, I think the workers at Tysons last night were perhaps not the ripest bananas in the bunch! I bought my ticket ahead online and still had trouble. I wasted 10 minutes in line only to learn that I had to go to “guest services,” where I encountered blank looks and the slack-jawed stare. “Tickets? Riff-what? Where?” Oh well, all part of the experience with a live show; it’s worth it. Glad you got in to see the show! So excited to see CT is finally coming to DC; October is going to be a good month.

Great fun as usual. I was in Manchester CT and the theater was about half full, less than the two previous shows. If anyone else was there I was the freak up front who looked like he belongs at any screening of Reefer Madness. My only gripe is with switching from normal view of the screen to seeing the riffers as well. Just a bit too much of it for my taste, and the switches threw me out of my laughing zone. There seemed to be less of that in the Christmas show, and I preferred it that way. I’d rather there be nothing but the movie, or at least taper off the switch as the show goes on, once the people who don’t know who is who has figured it out (if there are any people like that). The lowtax shorts were cute, and nicely brief, but did feel like filler. More insane ancient cartoons would be wonderful. And good lord the grass short was amazingly crazy.

Maybe a little over a dozen in Myrtle Beach. Not a huge turnout, but all very appreciative. I also noticed a cool reaction to the Lowtax shorts, which I enjoyed as a longtime fan of Lowtax and Shmorky (the animator), but I didn’t laugh either. There’s got to be better filler out there. Might I suggest Zachary Little?

  4. I caught the 420 spliced in there; was that always there? I seem to remember it being there. Also, can I say the word “there” a few more times there? There.

Corn is a type of grass. Googled it as I watched…

    AMC in Emeryville, CA.

Biggest laugh here was those clay head…things…It got the same “AUGHHH!” as the when the kid in the hot tub in Zombie Nightmare strolls past the camera in his wet skivvies.

Glad so many had a good time regardless of the attendance or tech probs at their respective theaters. I hope this one did well for the Rifftrax gang and hope House On Haunted Hill does great too.

A question?: So if they’re doing one for Halloween I guess they’ll be no Rifftrax for Christmas? Should I also speculate that Rifftrax will basically just do 2 events a year? (which is perfectly fine with me, btw but I also wouldn’t mind 3 RT events a year if they can manage it –

And finally fwiw the most SURPRISING joke for me was the mention of Harry Knowles (creator of the AintItCool? website) during Reefer.

My fiancee and I really enjoyed the show. It was our first live Rifftrax and we plan on seeing more. I got to say I enjoyed Lowtax shorts, they were quite funny. The grass short was like a how to guide for kids to start their own cult. The masks haunt my dreams, and I wake in a sweat.

Pretty full theater and a good crowd in Paramus, NJ … had a great time! So happy they made the gasoline short available. Can’t wait to see HOHH in October!!

Guess about 75-80% full at Brier Creek in Raleigh, NC (one of two venues). Full time had by all.

  11. Chris (106),

I suspect the reference to Harry was because he’s ALWAYS ragging on MST3K — he really hates it, hates they make fun of his beloved old sci-fi and fantasy films, no matter how cheesy.

I heard it as well but when I tried to relate it (on another thread here) I couldn’t remember what it was. Do you? (At the time I turned to my wife to try and explain it but then gave up when I realized it would take far too long to put it into context).

  12. Chris Lark says:

Thanks Mike “Ex-Genius” – From what I could remember I thought their riff on Harry went like this:

One of the characters in “Reefer” was sweating heavily or something happened to the character that involved water and I think Kevin said “That’s how Harry Knowles takes a shower” or again something like that.

Anybody else hear or see it differently? Sampo? anybody @Rifftrax?

  13. I went to the Clifton NJ showing at the AMC Theater off of Route 3. I’d say there were at least 50 of us there. Sound was a bit quiet but it improved as it went along. BIG LOLs at that McCartney riff and we also laughed at the animated fire that was “engulfing” the housewife! The “Grass” clip was the best of the shorts. Oh, anyone get that “Double Rainbow” riff? LOL! I hope HOHH is shown there too!

Small turnout in Parsippany NJ (about 40 people in a 300-seater) but my friends and I had a great time. I was the only true MSTie in the group.

One of the most memorable riffs:

Kevin: “Say Mike, I’ll buy you a hamburger.”

    Mike: “Never touch the stuff!”

Kevin: “Well, I’ll treat you to something else if you like.”

Mike: “Okay, you’re on the hook for one cheeseburger!”

Also: I loved the Lowtax shorts. The only problem was the subtitles (which would have helped a lot) were too low on our screen to read, the bottom half of the text off screen.

I agree, great show. Topeka Kansas had an OK crowd, not full by any means. I was surprised that with this many comments nobody had mentioned that two clips from the More Dangerous Than Dynamite short were used in the video years ago for Devo’s Beutiful World. (The bridge blowing up and of course the animated flames on the housewife).

How do you get the free stuff?

  18. C, says:

There was a sub-directory of rifftrax.com mentioned in the credits. I probably can’t say the exact name because it would give the information to people who didn’t see the show.

  21. Yeah, the free stuff — as an old person, I promptly forgot the web site address as well (even though I remember it as being something really, really simple, like rifftrax.com/reefer).

And while I did get the free stuff for the other shows I never really looked at them (because I wanted the *exact* riffs of the shows, so I waited until the DVDs were out). Anyone know what the free stuff is this time (so I know whether it’s worth it or just to wait again)? I’ll be glad to rack my brain trying to remember the exact sub-directory if they are going to include the gasoline or grass short (two of the most hilarious shorts I have EVER seen them do, even counting the MST3K days).

Gotta represent for Merritt Island, Florida! Well. I don’t GOTTA. My enthusiasm has flagged.

Anyway, our theater actually started this one on time and without any perceptible glitches, unlike the Christmas program which began with the credits to Old Dogs and a stampede of complainers out into the lobby. Got two free movies out of that.

We had about a 25-30% house, a good bunch who were into it from the get-go.

Everyone loved the first two shorts and without a doubt, the Grass short was the highlight of the night. “Oh, what fresh hell is this?”

The moldy cartoon was cute, the Lowtax animations were a reasonable breather for us and for the guys.

As for the feature, Reefer Madness is such an inadvertent hoot all by itself, it’s almost overkill to riff it. That said, still a terrific job.

Looking forward to House on Haunted Hill. Will they include the original William Castle on-site flying skeleton?

    Great turnout in Portland.

We all had a good time, I liked the lowtax shorts even.

I’d say overall the only thing that would have made it better would been to have the guys in the theater with us.

  25. Frederick Gundling says:

Very small turnout in Wichita Falls, Texas, about 7 or 8 total, including me and my wife. Plan 9 had the largest crowd (several dozen people), then maybe two dozen for the Christmas show. However, several friends are interested in HOH, and I’m a big Vincent Price fan, so I’ll be there.

FTR, we loved the pacing and the shorts especially. Favorite riffs: “What am I?!” and “I’ve abandoned my child!”

I wonder if anyone has gone to these things and been the only person in the theater..? Man, I miss living in D.C.*

*on the other hand, every trip in Texas is a reenactment of Manos: Hands of Fate

First time Rifftrax Live was available in Idaho Falls and there were maybe 40 people there. We got some friends who are new to rifftrax to come and they had a great time. They are coming back for the reshowing tonight and bringing their teenage daughters and friends.

I should think they’ll all be back for the Halloween show.

Took my son to the encore showing tonight. There were only about 10 other people in the theater as usual at the theater in Bowie, MD for a Rifftrax show. Nevertheless, it was hilarious. Really enjoyed the shorts. Tickets tonight were only $10 each!

Greetings. I love browsing your blog because you usually post well written postsAwesome article. Thanks for sharing once again. I am excited to put this blog in my favorites list. I am going to subscribe to the blog feed as well. I love bollywood films next year….

  31. Why do a good deal of Bollywood actors have exactly the exact same last title? Are they all related? Nepotism is widespread in Bollywood and rather a few actors and filmmakers occur from loved ones dynasties which are actually on the inside online video firm for generations. Nonetheless, you might learn lots of celebrities with specifically exactly the same common surnames, specially Khan and Kapoor, which might be not linked.
