Thanks Brandon. I didn’t hear a name in the interview and it was Mike that posted the item. Now fixed.

Mike is a braver man than I to agree to be interviewed by someone called “the angry videogame nerd.” ;)

I was surprised to see an ad before Scott Pilgrim – especially since that theater’s not participating – and I have to say Fathom did a piss-poor job of explaining the event. I know you can’t show clips from a live show that hasn’t happened yet, but couldn’t Legend have provided clips from the Reefer Madness Riff? Even my friends who are well acquainted with Rifftrax – thanks to me – didn’t quite get the gist of it.

For some reason, the theater closest to me is not making tickets available online. Theaters farther out are … has anyone else found theaters not making tickets available online?

I’ve found price gouging when it comes to tickets. $12.50 per ticket? I don’t think so! Is that Fandango or Regal Burlington 20? (I haven’t been to that particular theatre in a LONG time).

Crap, thanks for the heads up!
I didn’t find ANY theaters in Brooklyn showing it this time, so I just got my tickets for the Chelsea 23rd Street theater!

@#10: I paid the same for the Garden State Plaza AMC in Paramus (plus $1 “convenience fee” per ticket), but that’s only a couple dollars more than their (already outrageous) regular ticket price. I imagine it’s the same in Burlington.
These chain theaters get you coming, going, and sideways. “Oh, you want your soda in a cup? That’ll be another dollar. Straws are 50 cents, and you can rent a cupholder for a dollar an hour. You don’t want to know what we charge for ice…”

No wonder I don’t go to the movies anymore. Even if I still had a job, there’s no way I’d pay that much for a ticket.

@#9 – The theater in Owings Mills, MD is listed but not selling tickets online either. But I’ve attended both previous Rifftrax events and have had no problem picking up 4 tickets at the box office.

With fees, $32 total for 2 tix in Manhattan.

so I went to the theater in person and found out the showing was sold out! Go Rifftrax! Fortunately the back-up theater is close by too so we’re good. Everyone enjoy the show!

I am thinking at the last live rifftrax there were about 35 people in a mid sized theater. I showed up a half hour before showtime and I was the only one in the theater for 20 more mins. I know that MST3k was only available here in Colorado six months before it when perminately off of cable. So the fan base did not get a real chance to grow. I don’t know of anyone here that likes the show as much as I do. I feel like the maytag repair man sometimes.

When my girlfriend and I went to buy our tickets, the site suddenly wouldn’t work properly. (Where it said enter zip code to find theaters nearby, it simply would not load the next page, no matter what. Wouldn’t even try to load it, it just sat there as if I hadn’t done anything. Very odd.) I just googled it and found the theater’s website– fortunately, I knew which theater it was at– and we bought ’em there. $27 total with the “convenience charge.” We’ll have to drive about a two hour round trip, but it’ll be worth it. I’m looking forward to watching it with a large audience as much as I’m looking forward to content of the show itself!

Going by some of the comments here I have the impression that the same people who will pay about $11 per ticket to see the junk coming out of Hollywood in 3D find the $1 to $1.50 more for Rifftrax to be too much. Interesting.
All movie tickets of any kind are too high these days and we don’t go often, especially since theaters are dirty and noisy and most movies not very good. Fortunately for the last few Rifftrax Live shows we found online promotions that essentially made at least one ticket for the three of us free. Unfortunately, we could find no such promotion this time and the coupon we were supposed to get in the mail from a lesser promotion that would have saved at least some money did not arrive.

I am not one those people who goes to the movies to see any crap coming from Hollywood these days. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve been to any movie theatre. I don’t see the justification for charging that much, even to see RiffTrax, let alone another Hollywood crapfest. I have not been able to find any online promtions for my particular theatre (not that it suprised me). The other problem is, it would be just me since my boyfriend lives in PA, and my other friends aren’t MSTies and they don’t have traditional work schedules.

@Sharktopus – There ARE clips of the riff in it, but only the 30 second version. Unfortunately the 20 second version I think has maybe one clip sound byte but that’s it. Can’t really do much in that amount of time like you would in a 1-2 min trailer.
Talking about ticket prices, $12.50 is slightly more than a regular theater ticket, and way less than what other shows cost. I’ve seen stand-up comics who were less funny for 3 times that.
Anyway, hope those of you that are able to attend will enjoy the show. I’ve seen some of the shorts they’ll be playing, and they are a riot. I’m sure the reworked Reefer will be awesome, too – they have spent tons of time working on new jokes. It’ll be worth it.

I cannot begin to describe how delighted I am they spoke with Tommy Wiseau. And based on some of the interviews I’ve read with him, I can completely picture the way that conversation went.

New Wiseau = awesome! The Room with accompanying Rifftrax is one of the funniest things I have ever seen although the disembaudio parts were kind of annoying. I forgot to tell my brother about Rifftrax when I told him he had to watch the Room and he became angry when I told him about it afterwards as it drastically lessens the pain.

Not that anyone cares but after saying there was no way I was going to go see them do Reefer again, I went ahead and bought tickets (I’m such a Mike and the boys whore). Anyway, the point of the story is that I was telling my wife (big MST3K fan but not exactly a “fangirl” if you get my drift) that I had a surprise for her Thursday night, that we had to go into Orlando to the theater and she said “Rifftrax?”
That’s a pretty amazing guess, considering we’ve only been to two of these events (and go into Orlando all the time to see movies). Ah, my wife — I think I’ll keep her.
And, yes, the tickets are rather pricey when purchased online but that’s true of any online ticket. With these events I prefer to know it won’t be sold out when I get there (it’s worth the extra 2 or 3 dollars to avoid a two hour drive for nothing).

Ex-genius:
Good idea. We’re trying to tell people to do exactly that, since that’s the worst of all discoveries: to drive someplace only to get turned away by the “SOLD OUT” sign.
And yeah, I guarantee you’ll be howling with laughter at the shorts alone. I haven’t heard the new jokes yet for Reefer (there are many of them!) but the shorts I have seen, and they are a riot. It’s going to be grand!

I’ll wait for the DVD, 6pm start time is too early for me!

Erik,
I think with an event like Rifftrax live, where there is only that one showing that night you really do have to buy the tickets in advance. With other movies there is always another showing, or even another theater close by, but these are more like live theater performances (well, I guess they ARE live theater performances :>) and thus an advance ticket is the only way to go.
I’m sure we’ll enjoy the show — as I said, I do love Mike and Co, and my wife always gets such a big tickle out of them that it’s a good evening. That doesn’t mean I don’t wish they were doing “Jack” but I’ll hold out hope that it comes along sometime.

Ex-genius,
With any luck, we’ll be doing that next summer. We’re just hoping that these next couple shows (Reefer tomorrow, and House on Haunted Hill in October) do well enough to warrant it. Fingers crossed!

Erik makes a good point. I presume we’ve all spent far more on tickets to shows that weren’t nearly as entertaining as this surely will be. (Barring any dreaded simulcast signal issues. Fingers crossed!)
I have no problem spending $12 for almost 2 hours of guaranteed hilarity, and look forward to happily paying again in October.

Erik,
I have to say that part of my reason for caving in has to do exactly with what you mentioned — making sure you guys do well enough to continue.
I’m a big believer in voting with my dollars. I spend money on things I want to see more of (unlike going to the theater to see “Avatar”, for example :>). My wife and I will be there in October, I buy all the RT shorts, and anything else you guys do that makes me happy will get my votes ($$$).
Let’s hope everyone does the same so you have enough money to clear rights issues and keep Mike, Kevin and Bill solvent enough to keep me laughing.

Sadly, I’ll miss tonight, but I will be at the encore showing on Tuesday. And now I’m pumped for October!
