OMG
I actually saw this movie when it was T.V. over 3.5 million years ago
(Me and my girlfriend Lucy).
I have not seen in sence, but will check this out when it is released.
I read the interview but did not know how they were going to do it as the film is not worth the effort to find, on its own.
Way to go Guy!

They’re going to riff this! Fantastic. And next I hope Moment by Moment which I think is still also hard to find. Yay!

Yeah, I totally thought they were kidding. Wowza.

Gee,this brings back a lot of memories, even though I can’t quite remember much of it.Is that a good thing?? Looking forward to this one just to see what they do to it..thanks guys!!

Never heard of it. But its nice they’re riffing older films again.

Oh, god, this is awesome. Now, if only they’d tackle Duel. I’d love to see what they could do with that film.

Sweet! This (almost) ;) makes up for the triple-dips!

This makes sense as I believe it is in the public domain. Awesome, to the max.

@pondoscp #9 what triple dips? If you are referring to the upcoming Reefer Madness live show then… huh? How is a live performance a “triple dip”? I suppose that on their last tour the Rolling Stones performed “Jumping Jack Flash” dips 673 through 709? And in the world of riffing nobody tops Cinematic Titanic. They must be up to dip number 10 or 11 on some of their movies by now.

Sampo’s “Wow” pretty much sums it up. Did anyone at all think they were being serious in that interview? This should be a future Rifftrax Live Fathom event for sure.

You just know when Dennis Weaver appears at the beginning, a “Cave Dwellers” callback would happen.
“Chief?!”
“McCloud!”

Perfect.

Or is that too obscure a reference?

Haha, nice! Their movie choice is totally out of left field, and I like that; it’s neat to see them do different movie genres.
If they want to further explore the Travolta oeuvre, then they should definitely do “Grease.” It’s familiar, it’s campy, and their reactions to the dubious “moral” at the end would be PRICELESS.

I see this coming out on dvd eventually, since it’s a PD title. I have to admit, I wouldn’t of thought of this as a potential RT title to riff, but at the same time it makes perfect sense.

This is an excellent choice! They can get loads of riffs out of John Travolta, his tiny shorts, Robert Reed AND Buzz Aldrin! This movie is available at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Plastic-Bubble-John-Travolta/dp/B001R23GBU/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1279812132&sr=8-7, but it would be awesome if this Rifftrax were released bundled with the movie.

Anyone remember Total Movie Magazine? Content-wise, it aimed to be like the Maxim of DVD mags, lots of snark, a couple of pics of babes. Each issue came with a DVD with shorts and trailers. After a few issues, it died, only to be resurrected and conjoined with…I want to say New Media Entertainment? I’m sure that’s wrong. There was a Free “DVD magazine” that wasn’t a magazine, but a flipper DVD subscription service. One side of the DVD would be filled with ads, trailers, music videos, all sorts of stuff to make you want to buy stuff. The other side was a full-length movie, something indie and/or awful. Anyway, these two combined to make “Total Movie AND Entertainment magazine.” The DVD has less crap and more recognizable titles; the first movie in this revamp was Night of the Living Dead, and the last was “Species.” Bu that time, they had made some arrangement with MGM to raid their library, though the mag folded before the next issue was released, which was supposed to contain “The Party.”
Why am I rambling? Oh yeah. When Total Movie was resurrected, they had a special offer – sign up for two years, get a 20 DVD box set with FORTY movies. And one of those movies was “Boy in the Plastic Bubble.” And Kevin Murphy had a column for the mag, “The Bottom Shelf.”

Just about every ABC TV-movie we geezers remember from our 70’s childhood has sunk into public domain (since nobody thought of saving them for home theater back then), which is why it turns up on cheap 20-movie collections. And Rifftrax.
(And given the Joel era’s constant harping on “Killdozer”, thought the CT’s would be the ones to handle the cultural demands of 70’s ABC made-for-TV, but hey, it was free.)

@CG..No,the movie that RT should do next is NOT Grease, but Moment by Moment as mentioned before.Think of all the jokes RT could do with Travolta and Lily Tomlin making out–ugh!!

@Cronkite Moonshot #11 (responding to pondoscp #9):
“what triple dips? If you are referring to the upcoming Reefer Madness live show then… huh? How is a live performance a “triple dip”?”
I think pondoscp meant something like solo Mike riffs of Reefer Madness, Plan 9, etc. = single dip, later mp3/VOD releases of the 3-riffer versions of said titles = double dip, and eventual DVD releases of 3-riffer versions = triple dip. At least I think that’s what was intended. So that would be 3 physical products, rather than the live show examples of the Stones or Cinematic Titanic.
Hope that was a respectful enough reply.

Wow! My uncle has a copy of this movie. I’ve never seen it, but I’m sure John Travolta isn’t happy with it! Will I be able to download it just with the riff only, or can I only download the VOD?

@22
You are correct Dirk Squarejaw. But they could put the same movie out 10 times and I’d still buy it. I just prefer a new movie each dvd release/live RiffTrax.

I’m amazed, actually, they will riff this. In my only foray into writing my own scripted riffs for a movie, complete with time codes and such, this was the movie I did that to. I actually did about 24 minutes worth of riffs and, by myself, read them along at the appropriate time code. I’ve lost the script but remember a couple of riffs from it. If this is available as a riff-already-built-in DVD then I’ll probably get it.
Wow is the right word to use for this Rifftrax announcement.

“Old-geezers”. That’s funny. I wonder how many more TV-movie flashbacks from the 70’s they can drum up.

I am proud to say I saw this on TV back in the 1970s, and I saw it more than once! For a TV movie it had a long shelf life. To my 10-yr.-old self it didn’t seem so bad.

@starman – Yes, we’re releasing it as a VOD for $9.99, but for $3.99 you can get just the riff. Wee!

Oh, and here’s the product page on the site (just went up): http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/boy-plastic-bubble
Releasing this gem on you guys next Friday.

Yeah, this will be good. I remember when this was first on tv that I avoided it like the plague, only to come to school and hear all the girls discussing it and saying how sad it was. I new for sure then if I didn’t already that I’d never watch it.
But now I will and for one reason only.
As far as suggesting they do ‘Duel’, it would never work. There was way too much dead time in it. You could cut that down to a half hour and still have all the main plot features and not miss one exciting moment.

But it would be nice to have them do one of those 2 hour/90 minute McCloud episodes, as long as we are talking Dennis Weaver (Duel).
The one with John Denver would be perfect riffing fodder, or better yet, the one when McCloud had LSD slipped to him in a drink (I’m not making this up). It was a ridiculous episode. Oh, another one was when they had a girl singer (ala ‘Angels Revenge’ Shine Your Love). Any of those would be awesome rifftrax episodes, but I doubt that they are public Domain, and might be a little tough to find if just a riffing audio were made.

OMG, I remember this from, waaaaaay back. All I remember is I had to watch this, was either in school, or my folks made us watch this. Was supposed to be a tearjerker type film, but even when i was kid I thought this film was stupid. How about James at 15 next time??

i got this with my old dvd player lol good times

TV “message” movies would be great to riff. I’d like to see the RT crew take a shot at the movie “Kate’s Secret” starring Meredith Baxter. It’s about bulimia, the one where they throw up food after eating it. The movie is so dramatic that it surpasses drama and treads dangerously close to camp.

Afterschool specials would be a rich vein of comedy. I don’t know what copyright status most of them have, but they’d be like the shorts, only much longer.

I am buying this for sure. So glad they weren’t joking in that interview. It’s a cheesy old movie and it stars the foremost Sweathog, what is there not to get excited about?
