Will the release date be given then?

D’OH!
I usually don’t order from them, so I forgot.
CK@3,
It usually is given with the title announcement. (Though there’s always a first time for everything!) ;-)

If you go to Shout! factory’s website, click on the MST3k message board. Brian Ward mentioned that they have 4 titles “locked up”. (Just search “MST3K Shout!” into Google.)

Just picked this volume up from the local Best Buy store – which is the ONLY good thing about that sad, sad, store. Anyway, the first thing I watched was the documentary on “Beast Of Yucca Flats”, called “No Dialog Necessary” and it’s GREAT! These Shout! sets are like gold from the MST Gods! It doesn’t matter to me anymore what episodes they release, the extras are always AWESOME! (Not that I don’t LOVE all of ’em..)
Anyway, it’s another great release from Shout! and a wonderful tribute to our favorite puppet show. Kudos.

I wholeheartedly concur with the previous statements (although only one was about this volume, but still …). Another quality release from Shout!

Would like to know about any of those hidden “Easter Eggs” in the menus. So work those remotes people.

Just got the set in the mail. Watching the first disc! Two words: Rock. Climbing. *glee*

Got it at Best Buy today, and I WOULD be watching it now… but I kept dozing off, and my knee is bothering me so I’ve decided to leave it till later when I’m no longer tired and my knee is no longer bothering me. So now I’ll just celebrate the result of the MLB all star game (the NL won yay!!! ), and watch it tomorrow.

Did anyone else notice the annoying flickering during The Beast of Yucca Flats..?

The glitch problems on Lost Continent are really substantial. They make The Dead Talk Back look like a pristene Blu-ray copy. Almost every segment has some sort of video flaw.

They are already talking about the next release an I haven’t had a chance to get the new one yet.
Awesome!

You know, I would use THIS LINK if you would keep it handy. Why don’t you keep a link to upcoming releases in the sidebar so folks don’t have to surf the archives when they finally decide to pre-order?

Picked up mine yesterday, and I am about to see Beast of Yucca Flats for the first time! Tor, here I come. Or as Tommy Wiseau would say, “Oh hallo Tor…”

Got my copy yesterday and tore through JACK FROST and CRASH OF THE MOONS. Couldn’t resist. JF is as deranged as I remembered, while CRASH is not as screwy as the previous ROCKY JONES movie. Cleolanta’s still a b*tch, f’rinstance, but it’s not implied she’s secretly in love with Rocky and would be happier if she gave up all this political stuff and found a husband like a ‘real’ woman. (She does get tossed around like a bag of laundry, though…)

Something I didn’t notice the first time I saw Jack Frost on SciFi, the voice of Nastinka sounds an awful lot like the voice of the boy in Pod People.

I watched both Jack Frost and Lost Continent last night. I didn’t find any “Easter Eggs” in either. The intros by Kevin and Frank (for Jack Frost and Lost Continent in that order) were interesting. There is a disclaimer note at the beginning of Lost Continent that indicates that it is composed of the best copies available, but wow! that was an understatement. I think my broadcast copy (I transferred to DVD) is better than the one they used.

The video glitch(es) for Lost Continent are a little distracting, but didn’t ruin my enjoyment of a new (to me) episode. MOST of my vhs-transfered episodes are FAR worse (of course I was a kid when I was taping them and waited forever to transfer them). I’d rather have them released like this than not released at all…

I noticed several video glitches on The Beast of Yucca Flats, as well. Those were not on my previous VHS tape, so I would hope that Shout Factory will focus on quality control in the near future.

Disconcerting that the glitches are that vast in 2 discs. I wonder if there is any plans for replacements.

I have the glitches in Yucca Flats as well as the shorts and documentary. Also during parts of the host segments

That seems like a bad pressing of Yucca Flats. Almost the curse of Coleman. I can understand a bad copy of the ep but not a bad copy of the freshly made doc.

I only had one or two video glitches on my copy of BOYF, and it was all within the first five minutes, so nothing majorly distracting.

I also noticed the minor glitches in Beast of Yucca Flats and the special features. I didn’t count them, but I’d say there were less than ten and they all lasted for a fraction of a second. Perceptible, but just barely. Looks like an encoding issue…I paused my player before a couple of them and went frame by frame, and you can clearly isolate the badly encoded frame.
Disappointing, since this is an avoidable problem. But I can live with it. (Of course, if Shout were willing to offer replacement discs, the problem is perceptible enough that I’d take them up on it.)

The video artifacts are a sign that someone had better be transferring ALL the MST3K library to digital media, NOW, regardless of copyright status. VHS tapes degrade quicker than film stock, so it’s imperative that Mallon, or whoever possesses these bad boys, gets on the task, pronto.

I also saw the glitches throughout the BOYF DVD like David C mentioned. Surprising and disappointing. Nice to see the movie again, though.

I do hope that everyone is enjoying the YUCCA FLATS bonus materials (especially the documentary short), despite the dvd glitches. As with the SANTA CLAUS documentary, I tried to create a ‘stand-alone’ featurette that would not only honor the MST3K episode… but the original film, as well. It was produced with the deepest consideration for what you, the MST fans, would like to see on these box sets. I commend SHOUT! Factory for being so adventurous with the extra’s. No other company would really care. Look for more on future sets….

In response to Daniel Griffith–
Thank you for your information about BoYF and the featurette. Speaking only for myself, I do appreciate these bonus supplements to the MST3K presentation. They are interesting and informative. I think the consensus of the group has been the surprise at the video glitches in the DVDs. I think it was assumed that if you go back to the source (presumably Jim Mallon/BBI, Inc.) they would be pristine copies that got transferred to DVD by Shout!

Adding to Toms post, the glitches weren’t only confined to the main movie. The glitches also appeared in the supplemental material on the disc. This makes it appear to be a problem with Shout. However, I did very much enjoy Dan’s contribution to the disc.

I had an audio glitch during the “Money Talks” short on the BOYF DVD. Ben Franklin is talking about budgeting and kind of stammers on the word ‘budget.’ Haven’t had time to check it on the computer.

I noticed the same thing Dropo221 noticed with the stuttering on the word ‘budget’ in the short Money Talks. My son and I got a kick out of it and kept rewinding it and laughing ourselves to tears over it. I’m a bit disappointed in the glitches in the Lost Continent DVD. I haven’t watched the actual BOYF movie yet – only the shorts. I’m completely thrilled with the extras Shout! is putting on these DVDs, but I hope the issues with glitches can be fixed. As it was mentioned previously, I would hope that Mallon/BBI would have pristine copies as a source material and, even more pressing, as somebody else mentioned – time to get a move on in transferring these source tapes to digital!

Amen irunoft! I don’t how BBI is storing the master tapes, but it doesn’t look good. I know Johnny Carson stored his Tonight Show video tapes in an old salt mine in Kansas. The salty, dry atmosphere was apparently perfect for storing video tape. Video tape can only last so long.
As for the glitch, it is on the disc. I played it my computer and it did the exact same thing!
