Report: Next RiffTrax Live Will Be Aug. 19; Also a New ShortJohn Serba of The Grand Rapids Press reports that the next RiffTrax Live will be Thursday, Aug. 19, and the movie they will riff is the classic “Reefer Madness.” This has NOT been officially announced by RiffTrax. We’ll confirm as soon as we can. Meanwhile a new short was released today…

I really really hope it’s not Reefer Madness. I’ve already seen two Rifftraxes for it, as much fun as the live shows are, I don’t want to pay that much to see it again! And I reeeeeally want to see them do the other one.
Reefer Madness? Oh, come on! I’ve already seen that riff, plus that movie is only an hour long! They should do a double feature with Reefer Madness and Jack the Giant Killer
We couldn’t clear the rights in time for Jack (we’re fairly sure it’s Public Domain, but we want to be safe). Also, the number of people who haven’t seen it vastly outweigh the majority of people who have, and it’s our hope that everyone will still come out regardless of whether they’ve seen it.
We’ll also be premiering a couple new shorts, and will have a pretty sweet contest where you’ll get to write some new riffs for the film. (They are also working on rewrites as we speak).
Finally, about Jack, we all love it and we are definitely planning on doing it at some point.
P.S. Aug. 19 is the day before the one year anniversarry of the Plan 9 Rifftrax Live! Aug. 19 kinda sucks as the day because that’s the night of the 2nd Paul McCartney concert in Pittsburgh…not that I was able to get tickets anyways. If anyone has any they want 2 give me…;)
P.P.S. The Fanthom Events site doesn’t say anything about this yet. If it’s officially annonced by next week, then if I go to see The Metallica Big Four concert in theaters then I will see a preview for Rifftrax Live! (Since they r both Fanthom Event presentations).

What’s wrong with the ‘thickbox’/Flash Player?
Not sure what’s wrong with the sample player the way it’s linked. I’ve asked the Satellite News guys a couple times to link to the sample like this: http://www.rifftrax.com/shorts/family-teamwork?sample as it works fine (and is the way the sample should be viewed anyway…)
Finally, yes, August 19th is the date, with an encore (from tape) the following Tuesday.
Aw, I wanted to see Jack, but if they still do it later, then Reefer Madness it is. I haven’t seen it yet, although I’ll getting it in a few weeks. I’ll probably wouldn’t be able to go the the Live anyway. It’s usually not close enough for me.

I don’t want to see “Reefer Madness” yet again. I hope, Erik, that you guys won’t take any poor attendance at your event as a sign that folks don’t care anymore. I’m just not going to spend the money for something I don’t want to see (and my wife and I attended both live events so far).
Oh, and I’ll also say that while I realize you can’t control rights issues, if you didn’t have things clear you NEVER should have had a poll to determine what you were going to do. I’m sure I’m not the only person who got their hopes up it was a slam dunk for “Jack”, and I’m equally sure I’m not the only one who won’t go because it isn’t.
I agree with #15. Why did you even have it on the poll when you weren’t even sure you’d have the movie? Seems pretty pointless.

RiffTrax, I thank you….Plan 9 LIVE was fun & funny. Do what you want, riff what you want, poll what you want.
Too many “glass is half empty” types around these days….jeez.
Sure, go ahead and ask for our opinion when it doesn’t matter, riff whatever movie we don’t want riffed, and then don’t be surprised when you don’t sell out.
That’s all I’m saying.
I think Mike “ex-genius” Kelley needs to renew his prescription of anti-douche bag pills.
I’m with those that don’t really want to sit through Reefer Madness again, but nothing has stopped me from attending a Rifftrax live event yet. Plus this kind of movie event is a reason to get high, which is also something I never pass up if I can help it.
