UPDATE: Next from Cinematic Titanic…

The email list for CT got a message last night offering a sneak peek of the next release. We are going to honor the spirit of that message and not provide any details until a general announcement is made next week…

…but WIRED doesn’t have the scruples we do.

UPDATE: Of course, it’s already up on YouTube and we’ve been given permission to post it:

I got the email from CT last night. Great stuff, really funny! I’m curious, what was the original name of the movie used? It appears they changed it as they did for Brain Of Blood to Oozing Skull. Doomsday Machine does not appear to be the original title and even though I grew up on a steady diet of B-grade SF movies, I didn’t recognize this one from the clips in the sneak peek trailer and I was unable to find an appropriate match on IMDB.

Josh’s gumball head line, wow. lol Now THAT is self referential humor done right. :D This trailer has me even more psyched than the first. Hopefully someday they’ll make the sweetness even sweeter and give us some sort of hosting segments.

Well, so much for needing the secret password to see the preview clip. (by the way, it was “timetube” in case you didnt’ get the CT e-mail)

Personally I can barely contain myself! In just a month we get Doomsday Machine, then Wasp Woman (right?) sometime after that. I wonder what the third one they shot was. Time will tell, and I’ll probably be geeking out over that one too!

  20. I like the altered stands – more open, so it’s easier to see all the participants, especially Joel.

Wow, I guess I had trouble finding that film on IMDB because I was expecting an older date for the film while scanning through the 15 hits I got by searching on key words “Doomsday Machine”. The special effects in the CT trailer looked so bad, I thought it was an early ’60s film, not something from 1972! The film quality has a very “First Spaceship On Venus” look to it and I believe that film was made in 1960 and released in 1962. Of course, effects quality often have more to do with budget than the year of production. There are excellent quality silent SF films with better special effects than many cheap SF films made 40 years later.

The new CT trailer makes me very anxious to see the finished product. I always thought the space exploration films on MST3K were some of the funniest ones, from Rocketship X-M (my favorite episode of all time) to First Spaceship On Venus and 12 To The Moon, they are all terrific fun and excellent, hilarious episodes.

As it happens, I just got the un-riffed version of this movie from Netflix. It includes an intro from Elvira.

I guess I’ll use it as a point of comparison.

I’m curious to see how they handle the last quarter or so of the film, which is just mind-bendingly slow. I mean, if you thought Manos was slow, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Oh, this so made my weekend!

I love that they’re doing fairly obscure films…well, with the exception of Wasp Woman of course. Anyway, know the exact release date of this film? It looks about 1975.

    Dear Losingmydignity,

Have you ever heard of IMDB, dorkbrain?
The film was released in 1972. Other interesting facts: Grant Williams again appears, making him the new Bruno Vesota of CT, if not the new Beverly Garland. He made this lovely film right after Brain of Blood. Call him the Incredible Stinking Man. Also, the film has two directors. Weird. One is of German extraction the other is the director of Catalina Caper. Cool.
Now get back in your basement.
    love ya like a brother,

I loved the simple stuff, like the people yelling while the porthole (or whatever that thing was) was opened. And of course the last line.

I didn’t buy the first one, but it looks like I will have to splurge for this movie.

The movie looks a lot like The Green Slime minus the Green Slime. Everything from the costuming, props, not-so-special effects, and film quality are quite similar.

I’ve been delaying purchasing these partly for that reason, Mayo.

  32. Steve K says:

Guys, just download them from EZTakes — they’re well worth the price, the burner is simple, you get complete cover and disc art ready to print, and if you don’t have a dvd burner you can watch them on

  33. Mayo says:

Well I’m hoping that after they riff a few more we could have a box set of these.

  34. Steve Vil says:

You don’t have to download and burn them. I did this for the first episode: I went on Amazon and bought a used (like $3) copy of “Brain Of Blood”. Then I ordered “The Oozing Skull” dvd from EZ Takes, which is a nicely produced, pressed dvd. I got a double dvd case and put both movies in it with the “Brain Of Blood” cover. That way I have the riffed version and the unriffed version and in total it only cost me about $20 which is what a single ep of the Rhino MST dvd’s costs. I plan to do it with all the episodes, provided a dvd copy of the original movie is available and cheap.
