Info on Two Extras in the Upcoming Shout! Factory Set

Our buddy Daniel Griffith of Ballyhoo Motion Pictures, who wowed you with the short film “SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE DEVIL: A 50 Year Retrospective” in the last Shout!Factory set, has clued us in on two more offerings he’ll have in the next set. To go along with episode 621- THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS, he has created “NO DIALOGUE NECESSARY: Making The Beast of Yucca Flats,” an all-new 30-minute documentary short featuring exclusive interviews with cult filmmaker LARRY BLAMIRE (‘Lost Skeleton’ Series’), b-movie historian BOB BURNS, ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ alumnus FRANK CONNIFF and ‘Yucca Flats’ cinematographer/editor LEE STROSNIDER.

And, as an added bonus, Daniel has produced an additional featurette, “COLEMAN FRANCIS: The Cinematic Poet of Parking.” LEE STROSNIDER (cinematographer/editor of ‘Beast of Yucca Flats’ and ‘Skydivers’) is the focus of this candid documentary short, in which he recalls his experiences with the enigmatic actor/director, from their first discussions regarding ‘Yucca Flats’ to shooting ‘Skydivers’.

For more information, visit Daniel’s site.

Reminder: The set is available for pre-order at Amazon. We would be very grateful if you would USE THIS LINK. Thank you.

If any of you are unfamiliar with Larry Blamire, i can’t recommend “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra” enough.

Yeah, it’s a classic in every sense of the word.

Also, the docs sound interesting. Can’t wait to see the Coleman Francis doc, really get into his head (whatever that would entail).

I’m pretty excited to check out these documentaries after speculating on Coleman ‘Bay of Pigs’ Francis for all these years. Maybe I’ll learn that he didn’t hate life to the full extent as I’ve always assumed. Maybe Anthony Cardoza can add some riveting insight about coffee. I’d reiterate bad wolf’s enthusiasm for The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. It is one of the most earnest and committed homages/parodies to ever come out. If you haven’t seen it, watch it now. Oh, just shut up and do it. Now. Stop arguing.

Awesome! I loved Ballyhoo’s last documentary on the sets, since it gave me a whole new insight into what seemed like a bizarre fever dream of a movie.

Daniel’s mini-docs are amazing. He is one of the few people seriously working to collect the details, distribute the facts and preserve the memory of this special class of un-sung filmmaker that MST has introduced me to. I’ll take Coleman Francis or K. Gordon Murray over Jerry Bruckheimer or Michael Bay any day. I appreciate and support Daniel’s efforts!

#3: Yeah, I’m getting to like these “Regular DVD” featurette docs– :)
If we can’t get interviews or trailers, at least we can get a “celebration” of favorite cult episode as they deserve.
(Although seems like they were aiming the Santa Claus documentary as part of some larger separate feature–What’s up with that, film or video?)

Thanks for the kind words, NightlyMST3K! Without the support of cult film fans, these silly little ‘making-of’ documentaries wouldn’t exist. I have often discovered that the behind the scenes stories are more interesting than the film itself. And it’s a blast putting them together! SHOUT! Factory has given me ‘carte blanche’ when it comes to the overall approach and design of the featurette’s. It gives me breathing room to experiment with the medium… shake things up a bit! And there’s more projects in the pipeline… with some very adventurous concepts! SHOUT! really responds to the needs of the fans.

As far as the feature-length documentary on K. Gordon Murray is concerned (www.kgordonmurraymovie.com), it is still in the post-production phase… with no plans for a release just yet. But it will be soon. Stay tuned for more info….

I really hope that the MSTies out there enjoy to BEAST documentary!
