Well I’ll be ordering those 2 DVD’s soon ;-) But now I have a question for Casey@Rifftrax – Casey how do you go about choosing what to put on the next Shorts DVD?
The reason I’m asking is my Mom really liked all the women based shorts like Constance Bennett/Joan Miller/Flying Stewardesses/Women In Blue and asked me to ask you if you were going to do a Shorts Comp. DVD featuring those and other shorts like “Molly Grows Up”?
Since it’s too late for that then I might as well ask if you have any plans to do these following themes for the next Shorts Comp. or maybe just stick them all together on one DVD next time?:
School & Kid related:
Reading Growth: Basic Skills
Reading: Who needs it?
Drawing for Beginners: The Rectangle
Responsibility related:
Beginning Responsibility: Taking Care Of Your Own Things
Seat Belts:The Life Saving Habit
Family related:
Summer is an Adventure
Families: Food and Eating
Animal related:
Kitten: Birth & Growth

Chris, the way that we choose what goes on each DVD is both random and specific – the guys take a look at what we have in the archives and decide what they think would make a good batch for a DVD. Next we take a look at the sources – some of them come from DVD collections, some from archive.org, and (more and more these days) even converted from 16mm film. We try to steer away from material that has a websource for DVD releases.
The shorts you have listed are all from the most recent batch, and all have nice (well, nice for old forgotten film stock :P ) sources…so I definitely wouldn’t rule out seeing them on DVD at some point, but that is really up to the guys. I’m just the shuttle-jockey. :P

I commented a week or two ago in one of the Rifftrax short subject release notices here that they seemed to have been cranking out a lot of shorts recently in what I hoped was an effort to get some new compilation DVDs on the market. Glad to see that was the case. The shorts collections are my favorite Rifftrax product and I’ll definitely be adding these to my own collection.
