Say what you will about “Boggy Creek 2”, the original film “The Legend of Boggy Creek”, is a fun little horror movie, that while even saddled with a G rating, can raise a few goosebumps.
And if you are a fan of horror films, you owe it to yourself to see “The Town That Dreaded Sundown”. This is probably Pierce’s best film, and is genuinely frightening. The hooded killer (inspiration for Jason’s get-up in Friday the 13th part 2) is still scary, and some of the scenes in this film will leave you rattled.
Maybe we will get a Charles B. Pierce Boxset soon, as to date the only one of his films released commercially on DVD is “The Legend of Boggy Creek”.

I’ll bet Chuck still looks good in those shorts. And I’ll guess his skinny son finally dried up and blew away on a good breeze.
The Town that Dreaded Sundown sure is great! His best film that I’ve seen. Good stuff! When I was a kid in the 1970s there were 2 trailers that gave me nightmares, Town that Dreaded… and Black Christmas. Also Winterhawk isn’t half bad. Pierce gives me a lot of nostalgia since I grew up in a small town and all his films showed up at one time or other in our cinemas.
Ya know, Pierce should do another Boggy Creek for fans of the other one from MST3K. Kind of like they did with Time Chasers 2. Yeah! Another Boggy Creek II! II not III. Get it? :p

I was 12 or 13 when I saw Boggy Creek, and it was my first “date”–all I remember is my date, Lynne pretending to be afraid and giving me the chance to slip my arm around her!! I think that was my only successful “move” for years to come!!

I also saw the original Boggy Creek in a theater when I was in my early teens. It was tons of fun. The sequel, which I never saw till it was used on MST3K, seems like less fun if viewed on its own, so thanks to MST3K for making that one tolerable.
All hail the low-budget independent film makers like C. Pierce. Their projects have entertained many people indeed and in their own way are often more creative or original than anything produced in Hollywood.

He did a movie called The Evictors that was pretty good, too.
My favorite scene in The Town that Dreaded Sundown is where Charles B. dresses in drag to go on a sting with Crenshaw to catch the killer. Crenshaw keeps teasing him and hitting on him. It has to be seen to be believed!

I had forgotten about “The Evictors”, that was a decent little flick.
The scene that haunted my nightmares for quite awhile after watching “Sundown” was when the killer used the trombone for a murder weapon…pretty sick and nasty stuff.
I’m not sure what year “Sundown” came out, but Pierce looked so young in it compared to what he looked like in “Boggy Creek 2”. I doubt that they were made more than 10 years apart though?

No spoiler alert for the Trombone murder?
Thanks!
I would like to see his other films, though.
He had a vision…
…involving hosing solid waste off some guys pants!

I was looking at his entry in imdb.com and noticed Pierce did the set decorating for Carny. The carnival manager’s office certainly looks like something out of Town that Dreaded Sundown.
Pierce is a multitalent. Sure, he’s no Spielberg, but he does good working with non-actors in his films.

The Norseman, starring Lee Majors, is classic.

Charles Pierce definitely wins actor for most uncomfortable MST3k moment.
I mean he wrote a scene where he watches those two girls get dressed in that tent! And he has to sniff his arm sweat to calm himself down.

Ah, “The Norseman”. Until it made the cable rounds a while back, I mainly remembered that one for the great-looking newspaper ad with art by Drew Struzan.
With Lee Majors as a Viking, Jack Elam as a seer and a ship with TARDIS-like proportions, this one would’ve been great on MST3K. Maybe it can show up on CT or a revived Film Crew release.

Last night, I watched the Legend of Boggy Creek. According to wiki, LoBC made $20 million on a $160,000 investment! As mentioned, it is a fun horror movie with, at times, narration word for word with LoGC 2. Be careful if you ever venture down to south west Arkansas. You might just run into the Fouke Monster.

I ran into a place selling Fouke monster t-shirts!
(I was lucky to leave with my credit rating intact! ;-))

I just remember the opening credits:
Charles B. “in-over-his-head” Pierce.

I loved “Boggy Creek.” I saw it in the drive-in as a kid. It was the second Feature after a Disney flick “Gus” or something. “The Town That Dreaded Sundown” scared the crap out of me!!! I think I was in 6th grade when I saw it on Showtime, I did not sleep that night at all.
Boggy Creek 2 is one of my favorite episodes I was always into Bigfoot and it just struck a chord with me. Some of the best ever riffing in my opinion. Thank you Charles B. you entertained, scared and amused me.
