The set is available for pre-order at Amazon. We would be very grateful if you would USE THIS LINK. Thank you.
Awesome, I had it preordered on amazon about a month ago. I love getting these DVD quality versions of the old shows. They look amazing, its like watching them for the first time all over again.

I agree, Zombie! I just watched The Beatniks the other day, and maybe compared to my old vhs copy of it made it look even better, but the quality on dvd is so striking, it’s like watching it for the first time.
As for this set, it’s so nice to see a S2 ep get some love, and Jack Frost making dvd release is a huge plus in my book. I alos like the fact that SF is getting other members of MST to do intros now. I liked Mike’s on Volumes 4 & 5, too; it gives the disc an extra charm.

This seems like a real strong and solid set. My VHS copies of all these episodes have seen better days. New and clear DVDs every four months from our friends at SHOUT! Factory is always great. Really looking forward to this one.

Fantastic! Something to look forward to in the middle of summer–and the wife (a non-believer) will be thrilled! Somehow, the fact that she just doent get it makes it all even sweeter!

The write up for Lost Continent should have just said in bold caps
“ROCK CLIMBING” and nothing else.

This is due out on the same day as our first baby. “Hang on, honey, I just want to see the stinger!!”
Kidding of course. Maybe the first thing our child will see on a TV screen will be Tor Johnson and black theater silhouettes.

Really excited about this, especially the intros from Frank and Kevin. Some really good choices here.

Ordered and eagerly awaited…. I wish John Banner were available to deliver it.

What can go wrong with a Hugh Beaumont film?
“Ward, weren’t you a little hard on the beaver last night?”

Finally- “Jack Frost”. My all-time favorite episode!

:thumbs up: The special intros by past cast members are, strangely enough, my favorite DVD extras.

Man. This set not only completes the Coleman Francis troika, but it also gives us the follow-up to the adventures of Rocky Jones. Nice. Lost Continent is one of the stronger season 2 episodes, too, and… Jack Frost. Wonderful, wacky Jack Frost. I love you.
Soon I’ll SWIM with you! … no, wait.

I can’t wait to again be rock climbing and hiding from fake dinosaurs with Romero, Beaumont, Sid Melton and the rest of the crew on the Lost Continent. Still one of the best examples ever of how MST3K could take the most inane, boring movie and turn it into a comedic gem. Fantastic jokes throughout, MST3K at its best and three other strong episodes with it in the same set.
And I will also support the notion that special intros by cast members are some of the best DVD extras on these MST3K DVD sets.

The specials aren’t especially great.
I like some of the interviews with actors, directors etc.
that have been done on past sets. It’d be nice to have
more of them.

Yeah..placed my pre-order! Can’t wait! Love the extras, any extras are nice. The only thing I would love to see added is the original verions of each film on the flip side of the disk.
On a side note if you are a Gamera fan…Shout! acquired those rights as well, and will be releasing each of the Gamera films throught the year, both Japanese and American versions of each film, and each disk will be packed with extras!! Who knows, now that Shout! owns the Gamera rights maybe the MST3K versions will be included on a future set??

I agree about the intros being great DVD extras. I recently rewatched the TIME CHASERS DVD and Mike’s intro is great. I like his inability to remember the name of Pink Boy and his apparent bafflement at the filmmakers’ thinking that they wouldn’t riff but would instead just say, “Hey, this is a really good movie!”

Sometimes those actor interviews can be… ugh. I’m thinking of the one from The Sinister Urge. Who clearly thought this was a “hey this is a great movie and Ed was awesome” interview.
Mind you, he was about 605 years old, so.
But I like the episode intros from BBI members. I loved the Mike ones from 4 and 5, I’d totally be up for getting one of those on every disc from different Brains. It’d be nice to see Paul or Josh or Mary Jo or Bridget in one, or Jim or Patrick if the episode was particularly Gypsy-heavy. Should we ever get Gorgo, a brief bit from Leonard Maltin would be awesome.

Lost Continence! I have to pee!
I guess I’ll be getting this one, too.

The intros in 4 were generally good, although I thought Mike
was unnessarily cruel to the plucky Time Chasers cinematographers.
Granted the riffs per se were no more critical then usual, and
they shouldn’t have been so apparently surprised.
Off topic, I just got an interesting collection at Borders,
“50 Sci-Fi Classics”, which includes Eegah, First Spaceship On Venus,
Hercules (Moon Men and Unchained), The Phantom Planet, Santa Claus
Conquers the martians, Teenagers FOS, The Wild Women of Wongo!,
The Horrors of SDpider Island, etc.
But watching Spider island without riffing was a chore.
Although I still think its girls are the hottest in MST3000 films.

It’s this announcement that has made me realize that I still haven’t picked up the last set. I know what I’m doing this weekend.
Oh, and lest I forget:
Rock climbing, everyone.

Awesome!
First of all, The Lost Continent is one of my top 5 favorite episodes ever. The rock climbing sequence is up there for my all-time favorite film/riffing sequence. The moment when Joel breaks down is classic…”who are you? Where are we?!? Can we get some frame of reference here?!? PLEASE!!!”
Secondly, the other episodes are all strong.
Finally, hooray for the Frank and Kevin intro’s!
Today, Droppo is the happiest man on the Mars in addition to being the laziest.

Gotta love those 50 movie packs, especially since Mill Creek is in the habit of recycling movies. I have the “Chilling Classics” set, which has both Horrors of Spider Island and Track of the Moon Beast. Haven’t tried Moon Beast yet and I’m not looking forward to it.

With the first couple of sets from Shout Factory they brought out so many top notch episodes that I feared the rest of the sets from then on would seem less specatacular. But Shout Factory keeps going back to the well and it seems to be nowhere near dry. I keep forgettting how many good episodes are still left to be mined from MST…”Attack of the Eye Creatures, Puma man, Village of the Giants, Magic Voyage of Sinbad, Screaming Scull, The Projected Man….” And the special features on every set have been to die for. It was awsome to hear Joel talking about the first episode on the “crawling Eye” DVD. Shout factory was clearly the best suited company to take ove the DVD releases.
Now bring on Jack Frost!
“Yogurt is not a finger food.”
“Watch me breakdance!”
“Wow! It bearly works!.”

This is gonna be weird-for the last 15 years-
I’ve only had the second half of “Lost-
Continent”(don’t ask !!)-To see the whole
thing is gonna be like finding a lost friend.

@ck: I agree, the girls in Spider Island got to me, especially the skinny-dipping scene. That would make for a good discussion topic: the hottest girls (or guys, I guess) in MSTed movies.
On topic, I’ve only seen one of these, Jack Frost, and that was many years ago.

Time to start saving up for this one.

So much looking forward to this one, particularly JACK FROST. Often, these sets have one or two episodes I’m not crazy about but this one, every one of them is terrific.
And one imagines Frank Conniff is in Sidekick Heaven over two mini-documentaries celebrating the films of Coleman Francis.

Cool, Jack Frost mentions my humble home town. Very magical episode, what with film being backed up and all so the frost came go back on the trees!

There’s no doubt that this set is going to rank up there as one of the best ever.
So much excellent material here, it’s hard to take it all in.
With Lost Continent, we get a classic episode that even people who favor the Mike era or Bill Corbett era will highly enjoy. It’s got everything you could ask for in humor with very good riffing, and the movie is full of the kind of deep hurting that’s satisfying in a strange way that only a true mst3k enthusiast understands. It’s a perfect choice if you are a mad scientist trying to inflict ‘bad movie’ pain.
Beast of Yucca Flats, the 3rd of the Coleman Francis trifecta, is essential viewing for anyone who has made it through the first 2. Tor is an added bonus, and the riffing on him is funny and relentless. The 2 shorts are classics. I used to think Progress Island was the better one (and one of the top 3 ever), but I’ve grown to love the Ben Franklin one equally. Very good riffing all around.
Crash of the Moons is the better of the 2 Rocky Jones episodes. It’s goofy and well riffed – What more could you ask for? Some people don’t like the short, but I don’t know why. It’s pretty funny.
It’s almost like this package could have been enough right there to highly entertain a fan. Just these 3 alone will carry you for at least 3 nights of prime mst3k viewing. Having Jack Frost on it is like a bonus. I suspect most fans have seen Jack Frost since it was run on Sci-Fi network often. If a viewer hasnt seen it, they’ll not be disappointed.
Also this package works as a fine introduction to the show for anyone who is new to it, or has only seen 1 or 2 episiodes. It covers a lot of ground and every one of the episodes is at least above average.
