It’s the theatrical version (not the expanded one).
Here’s a free sample:
In other Rifftrax news: RiffTrax and Legend Films will be on the floor of the Comic-Con, at Booth #3251.
And RiffTrax Live live will perform Saturday, July 26, at 7 and 9:30 p.m. at the Balboa Theatre, 868 Fourth Ave. in San Diego. Mike, Bill and Kevin will riff “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” Tickets go on sale Friday, May 30th.
Visit the Balboa Theatre website for more information.
I got the impression from Bill Corbett’s comments (either here or on Rifftrax’s forum, I can’t remember) that Mike was “wheeling and dealing with Hollywood big-wigs” (paraphrase).
To me, that meant he had a script to peddle or he’s writing something new or something like that.
This “Two Towers” Rifftrax may have been recorded a while back. In fact, if Mike knew he was going to be out of pocket for a while, they may have “banked” a few Rifftrax with him to parcel out over the next couple of months.

When I read “The theatrical version” I actually thought for a second they’d be showing a movie with it’s rifftrack in theaters. I about freaked out, at least until I realized that just meant not the extended version of two towers.
Wouldn’t THAT have been something, though.

Mike’s working on something big.
Cinematic Titanic is recording their next show.
MST3K.com is promising “big changes”
Coincidence?
yea probably

Sorry to burst you bubble, but the LOTR:TT riff is being recorded this week. The “wheeling and dealing” comment from Bill isn’t exactly truthful :) Mike has actually been busy writing the upcoming releases. Anything LOTR is of course, a massive undertaking; but we’ve got some surprises ahead including today’s small announcement that we’ll have our own booth at Comic-Con this year.

It’s a bit of a shame that this Rifftrax is only for the theatrical release. Especially since so many geeks like me held out to buy the Special Edition.

Ah. Leave it to Bill Corbett to mess a brother up.
Good news for us, though.

Geez, I bought the TC only and later I bought those flipper sets with both cuts of each film.
These are probably the only RTs I’m not interested in. Of course, I said that about Willy Wonka but the sample on that says different. :)
Anyway, where’s the link on here to buy my advance ticket to Rifftrax: The Movie. I can’t find it!!!!

Only the theatrical version??? I guess they didn’t get their hands on the 17 hour, super deluxe, extended director’s cut.
Seriously, how many DVD releases did this trilogy have? This should be perfect fodder for riffing, if I could only stay awake through one of these films I would probably enjoy it.
BTW – I find Lord of the Rings in general, much more offensive than “Saw”.

Did you burst your bubble all over it?

The Fellowship of the Ring trax is a favorite of mine, partly because it’s -not- a bad movie, and the guys realize this. Kevin Murphy’s guitar solo line during the Balrog confrontation is a great moment.

#2 A-Spot: the Sci-Fi London MST3K All-nighter showed the Rifftrax’d “Battlefield Earth” in the cinema. We were told that it was a world premiere, as far as the staff knew, to show a Rifftrax’d movie in a theater, and that Kevin Murphy had wanted to come but couldn’t get a flight. And it was totally awesome. I can only hope it’ll happen again sometime soon.

@Bat Masterson, not sure what happened but this keyboard gets a lot of mileage with all the typing I do all day. It’s kind of a beater, anyway.
@bubble glad you got away without much of a scratch :)
@ety3 indeed, Bill likes to give out false information and just to be funny whenever he can. (Which is pretty much all the time).
Regarding the Theatrical Vs. Extended, we hope in the future to be able to have an addition version of the track, but Mike and co. decided that it was easier to get the theatrical version and since it had been out longer, that most people would have it. Myself, I’ll probably go buy it for $5 from the nearest WalMart. They are always there, and always for cheap.
