Rifftrax seems to really be cranking out the shorts again. I always wait till they compile them onto one of those DVDs I can buy for $9.95 or less off of DeepDiscount. I hope the large volume of shorts they’ve been releasing lately means another DVD collection is on the way soon.

This is really no different than the many other times that they’ve released a new batch of shorts within a relatively short span of time. That’s usually how they do it. They release them regularly, one or two a week for a short period (no pun intended) and then we go a little while until the next batch starts up again. I’m guessing it’s mostly because of how they make them. They all work on the writing, and then when they are ready Bill and Kevin fly out to Cali and record a batch of shorts with Mike (and maybe a regular Rifftrax or two while they are at it?), and once they are ready to go out those shorts are released in quick succession like this while they all get back to working on writing the next batch. As of now I think they have enough non-DVD released shorts out there to do several more DVD collections when they get around to it.

By the way I’m not saying that I know for sure that is how the process goes for making these shorts, I just mean that I how I assume it must work based on how they release them, and Kevin and Bill both living so far away from Rifftrax HQ. Plus on their Twitter feeds they both (Kevin and Bill) periodically talk about flying out to San Diego to record Rifftrax.

It seems more like Rifftrax holds out on their DVDs until Cinematic Titanic announces their next release.

  5. darthservo, CT’s release schedule has absolutely no impact on when we decide to release DVDs – when releases are discussed in meetings the talk is always, “How soon can we get this done and out? Let’s do that.”

I’ve GOT to see the rest of this short. Mostly because I’m dying to know…What in God’s Name Could The Filmmaker’s Purpose For Making This Film Have Been?! Talk about overstating the obvious.

(I think I also recognize “Fred” from some other short…not sure which one, though…)

  7. Stew says:

Waiting to release a DVD at the same time as Cinematic Titanic also wouldn’t be a good strategy if you were ever planning on actually releasing anything.

  8. I always assumed these shorts-swarms were to sort of (help) fill in the gaps between big-name movie tracks. At least, that would make sense to some degree – bunch of short easy-to-write things to tide everyone over and grant “breathing room” while producing more elaborate material for the big stuff.

If one counts the Christmas shorts that were released on the RiffTrax Live Christmas DVD, there are enough shorts for about 4 new DVDs.

I’ve always thought that their short releasing schedule was aimed me, Manny Sanguillen, in particular.
They know that I am far too lazy and busy to ever even think about trying to synch one of their rifftraxes with a movie, and they know I’ll buy anything that’s already synched, and so they still can keep me happy and make my life all peaches and cream. or is that peaches and herb?
