Weekend Discussion Thread: Continuity Errors in MSTed Movies

Alert reader Michael writes:

As I was watching “Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster” this last week, I noticed that the boat that the hero commandeered was named the Yahlen. Now that must have been a popular name for the Japanese or there was a continuity error, since the ship that was destroyed in the opening scene was also named the Yahlen. This started me thinking that the subject of continuity errors or goofs in the films MSTied might be a good weekend thread topic. My wife and I came up with about a half a dozen just off the tops of our heads. But, it might be interesting what our other erudite MSTies have discovered.

My all-time fave continuity error is in episode 423- BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, in which two characters have a conversation. When the one of the actresses is shot from one side she has a pencil behind her ear. When shot from the other side, she doesn’t. The pencil appears and disappears repeatedly as the scene goes on.

Other picks?

Totally off-topic, but I remember as a young-un watching ‘Airwolf’ and laughing my hinder off at the way the ‘copter would be dirty, then spotless, then dirty, then spotless…..

I suspect I was a MSTie before such a thing even existed. I specifically remember one time while watching it with my parents and and saying “So, the desert is full of roving bands of outlaw detailers?!”

Ahhh, the good old days of cheesy TV; I’m glad it’s so much better now!

    Should also mention…

    1) The ‘Cheating’ short with the phone ringing AFTER the kid picks up the receiver.

    2) WEREWOLF, where the girl chased from her repulsive lovers’ lane date has her dress already stained before falling in a mudhole.

    3) MONSTER A-GO-Go, where they don’t bother to dub in a telephone ringing (Instead just leaving the director’s cue, ‘Buzz buzz’) or music at the resturant (“They’re playing our song. Do you want to dance?”).

I’m going to go with a Film Crew ep here. In “Killers from Space,” when Dr. Kreuger (woof! woof!) makes his first appearance, he knocks on the door, the lieutenant says “Come in, Dr. Kreuger,” and the door opens, and then all of a sudden, Dr. Kreuger is at Mrs. Martin’s side, patting her on the shoulder. So of course, Bill says, “Whoa! He teleported!” That has to be one of the most memorable moments in that film.

“Were people in the 50s actually impressed by this?”

Another off topic movie. In the first National Lampoon’s Vacation they show the Griswalds driving through downtown Chicago then when they cut to the scenes inside the car, you can see Oil Derek’s and cattle fencing in the background then they show them driving through downtown again. Too funny.

Space Mutinty’s resurrected crew member is a classic, but I’d like to put in a plug for “sand storm, SAND storm” and the “deep hurting” experiment from Herc Against the Moon Men. When the queen flees from the city to death mountain, it takes her all of about 30 seconds. It takes Herc and the townspeople (why were they going anyway?) what seems like hours to cover the same distance.

So, we have EVERYONE mentioning the woman from Space Mutiny, but NO ONE has mentioned…

    “ATTACK OF THE
