…a top five list where I can’t actually find anything to complain about? Amazing!

(I quite like Richard Impossible on Venture Bros, and you could probably plumb Adult Swim for plenty of mad scientist types, but…still a tough list to argue with.)

Nice ! especially since the 3 mads made the entry.

And I guess Pearl is not unreasonably considered to be more of an evil science-hobbyist, as opposed to a full fledged scientist.

Hm, as do I, but is he really a “mad” scientist? He’s not insane or anything – just sort of a douche. But Steven Colbert pulls that off superbly well for the show.

Still, the mad scientist cliche is so overworked that it’s always notable when someone revives it and actually makes it work again, variants included.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

Petite: Yeah, I was about to ask why Pearl wasn’t included, but then I remembered she wasn’t board certified with the Institute of Mad Science, and not technically a mad scientist. The author did, however, mistakenly claim The Mads were on the Sci-Fi channel, and barring a cameo from TV’s Frank, that didn’t happen.

Dr. Forrester and TV’s Frank are the best! I’m glad Plankton was there, but I was a little surprised not to see Dr. Farnsworth from Futurama.

Good call on Hubert Farnsworth. Dr. Farnsworth was probably the funniest character on that great show.

That reminds me. I have an idea for discussion: Which of the invention exchanges were actually GOOD ideas? My favorite is the Mads’ Hobby Hog. I’m amazed no one has actually done that yet. For the SOL team, the sign-language translator would be great if someone could actually pull it off.

Forrester Forrester! Dr. Clayton Forrester!

Hi, Bender here. Burrp!!! What the hell, you guys are nuts.
Farnsworth isn’t evil, he’s senile! Now, Dr. Ogden Wernstrom,
he’s anevil scientist after my own (heh heh) heart, or you
can kiss my shiny metal a…

    “Farnsworth isn’t evil, he’s senile!”

I’m not sure about that. After all, he has a roomful of doomsday devices. I’m not sure if he ever meant to use them, but it gave him the fear he so aspired too.

#10 Yeah, but this is guy who invented the Finger Longerer and the Electric Frankfurter, so the potency of his doomsday devices is questionable.

KTMA was not a cable access channel-it was UHF (23)

#11 Point taken. Would Lex Luther be considered funny? Or just villainous?

The Finglonger aside, this is also the guy whose work resulted in the entire universe being stored in a single box . . . I’d cower in fear.

“That reminds me. I have an idea for discussion: Which of the invention exchanges were actually GOOD ideas?”

    (Hasn’t that been done?)

Given the whims of the modern market, there are probably a surprising number of exchanged inventions that would sell reasonably well despite having no verifiable use.

And for a list like this evil scientist one, how
about evil scientisty second banana (for mst3000
TV’s Frank or Brain Guy and Bobo, and for Futurama
Dr. Wernstrom. Not sure if Marty Feldman would
qualify for YF, although he did bring the brain
of that guy Abby Normal to herr doctor).

Interesting list, and of course I can’t argue with the winners.

I clicked to the Pop Shifter main page and took a quick look at the March-April issue. There’s an article by several contributors listing “movies that should be remade.” “The Leech Woman” made the list (with the author noting that she had seen it only on MST). The article closes with a vote for “Manos: The Hands of Fate,” suggesting Rob Zombie as director.

And you thought Manos was already the nadir of cinema.

There’s also a reasonable argument for remaking “Star Wars.”

You go Doctor F and Frank!

    Finally!

A list that puts in a MST3K reference because they were good, and not just because they were pop-culture.

Trace has never received the recognition he deserves for creating this iconic character. It takes talent to do what he did, and more talent to make it look so easy.
