Okay, dad-blast-it! By my count, that’s 23 shorts that they haven’t released on DVD. 24, if you include the non-3-D version of “Shake Hands w/ Danger”; 26, if you include the two non-Christmas shorts they did for Christmas Short-stravaganza… and 30 if you include the newest Christmas shorts they did for Christmas Short-stravaganza! Its time for a bloody Shorts DVD, or my name isn’t George! …and it isn’t!

Oh, and this short looks hilarious by the way.

Mr. Fix-It, BTW, was Otis the drunk on “Mayberry RFD.” And, if you listen, you can tell he was also the voice of Jimminy Cricket in “Pinocchio.” I have a friend who produced the Mayberry Reunion show for TV Land and he worked with all those guys. Otis was also the voice of Davy’s dog, Goliath.

    Huh!

Hal Smith is the man in the short who played Otis Campbell on The Andy Griffith Show and Cliff Edwards was the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio. I’m a big Edwards fan who was also known as “Ukelele Ike” and was a popular singer in the 30s and 40s. The Andy Griffith Show is also one of my faves and I don’t mean to be pedantic but I just wanted to clear that up.

The kid in the short is so wasted! Inebriated kids say the darnedest things.

Yeah, or you know he could just be a little kid who’s not good at acting.

Maybe Hal Smith was Jiminy Cricket on the Mickey Mouse Club. My source got it from Hal, so maybe that was it.

Or maybe it was Jiminy Glick. Naw, couldn’t be.

The kid is loaded… Bad acting doesn’t typically include slurred speech and red eyes. Besides… its the 70’s. Everyone and their grandmother were loaded that decade.

The kid is like 8 or 9 years old and making an educational short for children. Get real. I know you want to think that making an “observation” like this is hilarious, but “high” jokes are about as simple and easy (and unfunny) as it gets. I was disappointed when Bill said it in the short, because I know that the Rifftrax guys are all far more clever than that (luckily it was the only low point of this short), and it’s even less funny here with you repeating it with all the tact of Beavis and/or Butthead.

Good grief. Did your Granny overdose on methaqualone or something? That is the inherent danger of making a post on a message board is having to deal with pitiful people like you. Haha! Wow, Of all things to argue about. Its really not worth my time to banter with someone who has such an irrational reaction to a simple drug joke, but I will provide you with some helpful advice: everyone has an opinion, and they will probably differ from yours, so calm down. Haha… You are clearly beyond help, but I’ll keep you in my prayers, you poor dope.

Well. Back to writing more turd jokes for my new “Beavis and Butthead” spec script.

As mentioned, Hal Smith was a very prolific voice actor. He was also one of the voices for Winnie the Pooh and Flintheart Glomgold on Ducktales (which still beats the Sam Hill outta almost anything aired on Cartoon Network or Nick these days). My fave show tied with MST3K is The Andy Griffith Show so of course IMHO Otis will always be his best character. ;) Interesting story, it’s been said that a General Mills exec who happened to be an alchoholic deeply resented Otis and tried to have Smith ousted from the show but since he was such a popular character CBS refused to give into his demands. Sad that they don’t mention Hal Smith or Otis in the AGS reunion specials anymore (gotta be PC ya know).
