I’m a bit disturbed that I laughed so heartily at that sample. So disturbed that I probably don’t want to buy or even listen to any more from Molly and her growing up.

This is ideal riffing material. I wish they’d have more of these old-school, extra-stodgy shorts with seriously outdated views on . . . sensitive topics.
Not that I don’t like other kinds of shorts . . . but these are among the best.
Other than, you know, Drugs Are Like That, which still towers over most everything else.

I like this short, but I wish they would post the second half of the other shorts they have already done. If you post the first part, the second should be your next post.
Why make us wait so long to find out what happened?????
We live for this stuff you know!!!!!!!
(boy we lead shallow lives out her in the real world)

That was a hair disturbing. Would mama really announce to Dad such a personal thing? And in front of a running motion picture camera, to boot. Sheesh.

You know, these would be better with a live audience (-ducks-)

I’m gonna say that the live experiences are fun for the atmosphere and for the sense of participating as part of a group, particpating in not just entertainment but an *event* . . . but for repeated future viewing, and especially when showing them to people who haven’t seen them or the show – you gotta be able to hear the lines more clearly.
Frankly, I’d like copies of both in many cases, because sometimes the delivery is simply better in the live version. That’s happened quite some number of times in my experience. Oh well. Can’t get it all in one package, I guess.

Great clip! I thought talking about menstrual periods or other women cycles were taboo back then.

Oh MAN was this a good one.

It’s been awhile since I got a short, definitely time to load up.

I guess not. I think there’s some weird assumption that people knew nothing about sex back then. Apparently every child born before 1965 was delivered by the stork.

“I’m 85, I should have great-grandchildren by now!” lmao!

Well I have to get this!

It’s funny but it makes me blush, and gag a couple of times.

“Would mama really announce to Dad such a personal thing?”
No kidding! And dad being all creepy beforehand, practically fishing for what they were talking about! “Is this a private conversation?” *blech* It actually makes me mad, because it’s like the people who made these shorts had an agenda to ENCOURAGE conversations such as this. “Everything MUST be talked about in the open with EVERYONE in the household, especially dad or you’re a communist who hides things!!!”
And what’s this I hear about the shorts being divided in two?

I dunno, I’m a guy who considers myself pretty well-adjusted, and this sort of thing doesn’t bother or surprise me. It’s just a fact of human existence – no need for shame on anyone’s part.
Although the description for the short is stilly pretty damn funny.
“And what’s this I hear about the shorts being divided in two?”
Eh, a fair number of latter shorts have been longer (~20 minutes) entries that they divided into ~10 minute segments. The shorts average about 10 minutes anyway (yes, I’ve checked), so “99 cents = 10 minutes of short” seems to be the standard they started holding themselves to.
Some folks are upset about this and would rather have the parts together, so we don’t have to wait for the conclusion . . . I don’t mind *too* much, but it is sort of inconsistent, because they certainly have released ~20 minute shorts in full before. I can see why they do it, but they should maybe not do it quite so frequently as they have lately.

I’m not talking about shame or anything, just dignity and quality of conversation ya know? And it’s just too weird seeing this in 1950s footage but I guess that’s why it’s so prime to be riffed. Anyhoo, thanks for the info on the shorts.

Honestly, I’m assuming this really was the sort of thing that only got shown to girls in health class. Hence the style – trying to make it all seem normal, comfortable, and even casual for the kids involved. It *is* sort of a shock to see when one is used to all the other intensely euphemistic and ultra-stodgy ’50’s shorts.
I also find the idea of a 12- or 13-year old instantly “growing up” based on a physiological event to be, simultaneously, hilariously naive and depressingly ignorant.
