We’ve received this message from Joel Hodgson:
Greetings friends and fans of MST3K and Cinematic Titanic!
Just wanted to alert you to an event that is happening next Saturday in the Los Angeles area called “Twentywonder”. When we worked together, my brother Jim and I started an almost-annual event called Superball. We produced eight of these events, which we considered a sort of “one night world’s fair” with music, comedy, art, science and food all rolled into a party that hosted over 1,500 guests.
Since then, Jim has become a director of the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. He’s currently mounting a really incredible event that is similar to the Superball happenings, but has an actual purpose beyond simply a good time: Helping to improve the quality of life for those living with Down Syndrome.
If you are in the Los Angeles area on March 6th, I would like to personally invite you to the event. I think you’ll love it. Also, as you may already know, Cinematic Titanic will be performing. We’re doing a “greatest riffs” performance that features eight of our funniest films all crammed into a twenty minute set. Hope you can make it!
Tickets are available at http://www.twentywonder.org.
Kudos. It’s a very noble endeavor.

@ #2 (big61al): I suspect Joel is one of those ‘friends you’ve never met’ for a lot of us. :) And I agree with Joshua: what a wonderful thing to do to try to help people and improve their lives!

Here’s a quick event report:
Joel’s brother Jim put together a really fantastic charity event, it was like some sort of art-geek nirvana hipster festival with all manner of fun things to do (including MST3K-inspired puppet karaoke theater and a booth where you could hot-glue together a robot). The opening acts for the Titans were a pretty solid crowd, highlighted by Sarah Silverman’s filthy folk song sing-a-longs and Dana Gould with a hilarious bit about homicidal dog behavior.
The “Greatest Hits” performance from Cinematic Titanic rounded out the night and made a believer out of me, my guests and I are now committed to catch every one of their LA live shows possible.
For the over-21 crowd the jokes got a little raunchier and everyone let loose a bit, including J Elvis dropping a couple of expletives into his “Gumball machine robot head? How lame is that?” riff which brought the house down. Joel mentioned that Trace B. flew out to LA specifically for the riffing session and was taking the 12:30 plane back to Minneapolis. Quite a bit of dedication!
