Two Quick Items

At the McCarter Theater in Princeton, N.J., they are asking folks planning to attend the Cinematic Titanic show on April 16 to vote on which movie they want the Titans to riff. More here.

Meanwhile, Curt Holman of Creative Loafing reviews the new RiffTrax releases.

Odd, first I heard you could vote, then I heard they’d decided on “War of the Insects”, now it’s definite you can vote. Well, whatever works.

The only one on the list I haven’t seen or is not on DVD is “Danger on Tiki Island”, but I voted to see “The Alien Factor” again. I saw it last year at the Trocodero and it was a scream. I’m hoping it’ll get out on disc soon.

Please, Joel. Never listen to the fans. Ever. Listening to fans gave us stuff like Season 3 “Star Trek”. Listening to fans caused “Mythbusters” to flush itself down the toilet with weak “myths” all beginning with, “We’ve been getting a lot of e-mail on this one.” Listening to fans is why Rifftrax tried and failed to make Titanic watchable. Don’t do it, Joel.

Actually, all of the titles on the list are movies that CT has already done. It’s not that fans can suggest anything. Still, if they were asking that, I’d say go with “Horror Express” with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Telly Savalas. Not a bad movie, but it’s really, really goofy.

Yeah, I have seen four of those six movies, so I would have gone with the Danger on Tiki Island one (if I had voted, which I didn’t).

    From the Creative Loafing article:

“RiffTrax’s own packaging tends to embrace corny ideas that they’d merciless shoot down if they presented by others. Nelson’s wacky expressions on the packaging prove almost painful to look upon”

As much as I enjoy Rifftrax, I kinda agree with this.
