Cinematic Titanic News!

After several weeks of quiet, Cinematic Titanic just sent out a boatload of news to its email subscribers:

• You can now download their first episode for the price of $9.99. So if there was somebody out there who simply hates commercial DVDs, here’s your chance to burn it yourself!
• The, um, pace of new episodes has been a question in some people’s mind and this email answered the question–seems that in the wake of the end of the Writers’ strike and the sudden return to work in L.A., studio space has been at a premium. But, they write, “we have officially secured a stage for the second week of May, at which time we will be shooting the next THREE EPISODES of CT!” Woohoo!
• On April 26th, the CT gang will be in Dallas for the USA FILM FESTIVAL. They’ll take part in a MST3K panel that will also feature Kevin Murphy! The CT gang will also do a live riff of a new episode (they’re not revealing the title of the movie yet).
All this will be at the Angelika Film Center, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas. The panel discussion will be at 5 p.m. and admission will be $8. The Live Riffing will follow at 7 p.m. and admission will be $25.
Tickets go on sale April 10; call 214-631-ARTS (2787) then HOLD for LIVE OPERATOR option. For more info on the festival, visit www.usafilmfest@aol.com.

I just bought a new DVD-Rom. If I inserted a blank DVD CD to record, would I just copy it to that disc? I’m a bit new to this whole “DVD-Burning” thing.

If you have a DVD-RW drive. Windows instructions: Insert the DVD-RW disc. Open the drive’s folder, usually (D:/). Drag and drop the files you want to copy into the folder. Choose the “Write these files to DVD” option under “DVD writing tasks” on the default sidebar.

Wow, Oozing Skull is 3 GB. Even if it was 700mb, it would take a long time to download.

Huh. I might actually try this. I’d heard so much stuff about the disks being damaged in the mail … but $10 for a download don’t sound bad. Just do it tonight when I goes sleepies. And glad to hear they’re gearing up for more eps.

Well, I live in Ft. Worth and there’s precious little that can entice me to make the the trip to Plastic City (Dallas) but I may have to break with tradition (and personal and property safety) for this !!!!

I started downloading this evening before I went to work, and it said it was going to take about 5 hours. When I’m off work, I’ll hopefully have the ability to burn it. They threw their own program it burn it, so I’m hoping that part isn’t a problem.

Hum…I’d still like a super duper official release complete with glossy packaging and whatnot.

But…I’m buying! $9.99 is like, less than 10 bucks.

  8. There is a free movie that EZTakes has available so you can try out the download-and-burn service before you buy. (The film is pretty short, so the download doesn’t take too long.)

I’d suggest trying it before buying, just to make sure you’re good to go. That way, if there *is* an issue, you can be sure to resolve it before you pay any money.

FYI, even though I bought the pressed copy, I did try the free download and it worked like a breeze.

Can anybody who has purchased the download tell me if it comes with a DVD case cover insert that you can print out yourself?

    Thanks in advance!

Woohoo. I live in Arlington, TX. I am most certainly going to Dallas.

Kirk, I would be pleasantly surprised if they included DVD artwork. I just got my DVD of The Oozing Skull in the mail. It came in a plain paper dvd envelope and nothing else. The only artwork was on the disc itself. It also took over a week via US mail. EZTakes doesn’t spend much money prettifying their product, I’m afraid.

Oh, having said all that, I should say the show itself was very good. Up there with the best of the old MST3K series. I can’t wait for the next episode(s).

The packaging & delivery sucked though.

RAD (MJ’s husband) has offered to purchase and deliver discs to anyone who can not get them right now! Just go to the official website-I know he will help you!!
I can certainly not wait for the next movies as well! I re-watched it and it was funnier than I remember! Whatever movie can make Trace sick-has GOT to be good!

kirk, yeah there’s cover art. it downloads with the movie. there’s a small pic of it on the oozing skull page of eztakes site (click on label & case art). don’t know if they make it available to those who bought the pressed disc though. i’m sure CT will offer it on their site eventually.

  17. Kirk says:

Thanks oddstocks! I bought the download this weekend and it took about 8 hours to download on my DSL connection, but it was worth it. Considering that you get a case insert that you can print out and a DVD label, it’s a much more satisfying package to download than to buy, if you’re comfortable with downloading & burning it yourself.

Hubby and I are driving in from Houston for the panel and riffing! This is worth the eight-hour round trip through the flat wasteland that is central Texas.
