This was one of the really good ones they did (actually, they were all good with the exception of the swimming one, but the pork one wasn’t really seasonal).
It’s nice they are giving it for free — I’m still looking forward to seeing them release a DVD of the live show, though.

Sounds like a Muppets special to me.

It’s all narrated from a small tree’s point of view — and the tree is about as depressing a figure as someone from a Bergman film. Really, really funny (and bizarre) stuff.

@Mike #1 it is only free to people who went to the show and used the special URL. This is for the normal $.99 release on the regular website. I’m kind of disappointed they haven’t released the rest of the new shorts as well. It would have been nice to see one every few days leading up to Christmas. If they don’t put them out before Christmas then I hope they don’t make us wait until next year to get them.
Come to think of it they still have to release the second parts of both Call it Free and American Thrift as well. I don’t mind paying a little more for the longer shorts but they really shouldn’t split them into two if they aren’t going to release both parts reasonably close together. I’d rather have the short be released as one complete part and cost $1.99 than get half and wonder if they are ever going to get around to releasing the rest.

It is really frustrating that lately, the quality of these free downloads are crap. It skips every second and impossible to hear what their saying. If you are going to post this stuff, make sure a person can hear it. My God, I have DSL and it is still crap.

@4 I’m with you Cronkite. Even shiftier, I don’t remember Call It Free being labeled as a two parter. Just sort of…happens. I should have stuck to my guns and not bought part one until two was released. Been a month or two for those now, right?
@5 Todd, just to check, are you right clicking and doing “Save Target As” ? I downloaded my free short the other day and have no playback problems.

I note that they have now posted two more of the holiday shorts (the bizarre dream of the little girl and, of course, the infamous Rudolf where, I assume, we’ll be able to hear the three lines that were missed due to audience laughter).
However — I’d still like to have the live show. I’ll buy these (I buy all the RT shorts) but in this case I really do think the live experience will make it a lot better.

I feel your pain. I still remember diving into RT. Buying $15 of shorts, downloading all of them and then going on the forum to ask why they didn’t work right.
A few codecs fixed the problem, but I got so wrapped up in watching them that I needed answers NOW! (Not that you were like that, but I was/am)
Not to drive you away from here or anything, but the RT forum really does have a lot of helpful people with almost ANY aspect of the product. Always willing to help out new meat :)
