The Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles (where Cartoon Dump regularly plays), will hold a benefit for Maila Nurmi, aka Vampira, the first TV horror host and co-star of the immortal “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” who died Jan. 10 of natural causes. The benefit is to raise money to pay for her internment at the Hollywood Forever cemetery.
While the theater’s own site does not list him among the guests, a poster posted at Vampira’s official site says Joel will be among the performers.
Call (800) 595-4849 or visit Steveallentheatre.com for more information. You can buy tickets to the event here.
Thanks to alert reader Joe for the heads up.
I love it when people race to support individual celebrities. Lets make sure this woman gets a proper burial… as for the common folk… well, lets just toss them into a mass grave and pour some quicklime over ’em. They don’t matter anyway.
Performers helping performers makes a lot of sense to me. That’s why offices have sunshine clubs, to help fellow workers. Benefits give the common folk a chance to see some celebrities they may not see otherwise.
I’m glad to see Joel out and about. I’ll probably never get to meet him in person since I live in the right coast and Joel’s seems to be mostly on the left coast or in Mn, but I can always hope.
It is very fitting for Joel to do this. I mean if it wasn’t for Maila Nurmi, we may never have had MST3K.. I mean she was the first Horror Host on TV.. she paved the way for everyone from Zacherly, to Bob Wilkins, to Elvira and to Joel.. Bravo Joel, hope I can make it down to the show!
