This week’s episode “Agent for H.A.R.M.” reminded me of the several secret agent films (like Secret Agent Super Dragon, Double 007, Danger! Death Ray) the Brains have riffed on the show and if you haven’t done it already I think it would be a great weekend topic to rate the best/worst of those particular films.
Several people suggested this in the comments last week, as well. Sounds good! We could also discuss what does and doesn’t count as a secret agent/spy movie. We’d all include 504- SECRET AGENT SUPER DRAGON, 508- OPERATION DOUBLE 007, 620- DANGER! DEATH RAY and
815- AGENT FOR H.A.R.M., but for the KTMA-minded there’s K18- THE MILLION EYES OF SU-MURU. Heck, 314- MIGHTY JACK kinda qualifies. And isn’t there a spy agency in 420- THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS? And of course there’s the George Lazenby appearance in the second half of 324- MASTER NINJA II.
As for favorites, I lean toward 620- DANGER! DEATH RAY. It’s like somebody took all the elements you’d expect in a super secret double-naught spy movie, threw them up in the air and just assembled them in what ever order they came down.

007 Kid Brother is the most fun movie to watch. Lots of lovely girls in that one and nice sixties groove–not to mention cool music by Ennio Morricone. (someone put up the English version of the main title song on youtube but I prefer Italian)
Super Agent Super Dragon is the hardest to watch. What a slog that movie is. It is also my least fav riffing-wise.
My fav riffing-wise is Agent from Harm.
And Diabolik is NOT a spy movie.
Diabolik is one of my favorite episodes from the last years of MST3K, but #51 is right—It’s not a spy movie.

Personally I’m hoping Agent for HARM will be on one of the upcoming DVD packs from Shout! in the near future, though I did find the complete episode on YouTube a while back.
Danger! Death Ray is one of my all-time favorites: The name “Bart Fargo”! The irritating but catchy sound track! The “Death Ray for peaceful purposes” premise! The bizarre wristwatch scene at the end (and stinger)! The “ugly European men” riffs, the “special effects by Billie”, Cam-Bot’s big moment at the end . . . how can any MSTie NOT love this episode?! And then, it is so obviously a cynical rip-off of James Bond (I mean, they don’t even pretend it’s not a rip-off), which means the gloves come off as far as the riffing is concerned–and Mike and the ‘bots hit on all cylinders!
To post #51: Regarding my comments in #42 about Diabolik: I know it is not a spy film. I did not mean to imply that it was. I just thought that it FELT like a spy film with all of Diabolik’s gadgets and tricks.
On another note: I am surprised that there have been only 55 posts (so far) on this topic. I would have thought more people would have chimed in on this one.
Can’t say I’ve seen all the spy movies, but the one I like the most is Agent for H.A.R.M. You gotta like an underproduced (almost “tv-movie”ish) piece of (stuff) from the 1960’s. You got your exotic locations filmed in the most non-descript areas of Southern California plus an agent totally oiled down in smarm and wearing a ridiculous yellow cardigan. Truly the anti-Connery. What’s not to riff. See you at the Judo Range.
Being a big fan of the James Bond mythos, I’ll definitely go for Double 007! It has all the ingredients of a typical Bond movie except that Sean Connery’s brother is just plain… boring. Fortunately enough, Joel and the ‘bots are there to save the day! Not to mention Agent From H.A.R.M. as well! (JB theme: Ba-da-daa-daa!)
