This was added to Youtube last September, so I guess this isn’t breaking news, but…

Niiice Stephanie, it did have a somewhat delusional view of the film didn’t it?

yeah, they seem to be enjoying reliving what we all think is a great steaming pile. have to say one of my most fave episodes. wonder what there doin now?

I heard awhile back that they were actually making a sequel, no clue who they think might enjoy seeing that.

Yeah, I saw this a couple months ago. It still weirds me out to see J.K. with gray hair and Nick without the mullet.

  6. ThorneSherman says:

Well, it has been 15 years since they made it, somebody had to have pointed out the bad hair to nick somewhere along the line.

I liked the beginning, with the ripoff of homage to the trailer for the 20th anniversary Star Wars trilogy theatrical re-releases. (It also began with a shot of the film on television, and a comment about how for years, it could only be seen one way.)

You know, the movie isn’t too bad, and they seemed to really go all out on the DVD. I might have to pick this one up. Doesn’t look bad at all.

I must honestly say (with a few exceptions) this movie was kinda ok. Although it was somewhat of a ripoff of Back to the Future, Time Chasers had it’s own charm in it’s badness (like any B movie). Plus, I like planes

OK, i looked it up, why you ask…..i don’t know. In any case, the sequel, Time Chasers 2-Nick of Time, is supposedly in preproduction. It makes sense then to put out a re-release of the original, and punch up the trailer some, to help sell the sequel. I didn’t know until just now that David Giancola was only 20 when he made the first film, or that it had not only lost money, but climbed out of the red after MST3K licensed the rights to it.

I still to this day think they missed the boat on gettin in a Mallon reference. Or am I the only one who thought Nick looked like Jim? :) First thing that came to my mind when this episode premiered. I was just waiting for it and it never came. :(

Hmmm, that never occured to me, but now that you mention it, I see it, niiice lol. This movie has a couple of my favorite riffs, Mike’s line “16 men on a dead Dodge Dart”, and Crow’s fervent insistance that Nick can’t be the movie’s hero, “this will not stand, movie”.

Here’s the link to a Giancola interview my wife conducted with him last year.

btw, I did send the link to the only 2 emails I could find on this site at the time, but I guess it wasn’t MSTie news worthy enough…

    Well enjoy!

… I think I’m actually going to buy this DVD. I seriously want to hear what the actors thought about the whole thing.

And I actually liked the movie by itself, too. This and “Overdrawn At The Memory Bank”. Both are in my top 10 favourite episodes of MST3K, but I actually enjoy the films themselves, too.

Maybe there’s just something wrong with me.

So, we’ve not only got the sequel to Hobgoblins to look forward to, we’ve ALSO got a sequel to Time Chasers??? This would make a heck of a DVD viewing party if I knew any other MSTies in my town.

Okay, so this was added on YouTube last September…is the DVD out yet?

This movie is one of those that I could watch on its own (but will probably say the MST3K jokes while the movie plays), since it isn’t that bad.

Will the DVD be in stores or just from a website? The trailer did look cool, but the beginning is a bit of a slam towards MST3K (which made the movie more popular if anything).

Anyone notice Mike and the bots at the very beginning? That was they way we could “enjoy” the film, I guess.

  24. Cornjob says:

The trailer actually isn’t serious at all. As someone mentioned already the beginning is exactly like the trailer for the 1997 Special Edition release of Star Wars, but actually most of the trailer is a parody of that Star Wars trailer, which is why it comes off as so grandiose and self-important. It’s actually a joke about how the film really isn’t as important as they are making it seem. I mean they mention Nick’s past self, as if that is a memorable character that everyone loves. There is no way you could think they were serious about that. I am actually going to pick this DVD up (well at some point, I won’t be rushing out tomorrow or anything) if only for the documentaries and commentaries. I can’t imagine them not talking about their MST3K experience in there somewhere.

Time Chasers wasn’t really all that bad, considering the lunch-money budget. It was light years better than anything Japanese MST3K ever did (in my opinion). At least I can actually watch this without feeling the need to grind my bunions. The production values are better than the first Evil Dead movie too…and that is a cult classic.

I like th fact the MST3K shadowrama in the trailer was done really fast, Mikes moving around like a spaz, and Tom’s dome isn’t connected.

It’s ironic MST3K released 3 episodes in a row that are classics, Space Mutiny, Time Chasers and Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.

  27. I’m with cornjob, the trailer’s a parody. I’ve said it many a time, I really like Time Chasers as a stand alone movie. Enjoyable fun. And fair play to the makers for trying to do something clearly beyond their budget and means. They dared to dream man!

Sweet!! As I recall, the Time Chasers staff wasn’t too fond of MST3K’s treatment of the movie. Perhaps they finally realized MST3K brought the movie to a whole new audience.

OK, the production company for Time Chasers is called Edgewood. Now notice the similarity between the names “Edgewood” and “Ed Wood”. Coincidence….. ?

    @ Rhys…

I was just thinking that same thing the other day. I watched both Space Mutiny and Overdrawn again, and noticed they were only separated by one episode, and so I looked it up and saw it was Time Chasers. Three classic episodes in a row.

One of my favorite jokes in the Time Chasers episode was when Crow simply refused to believe that Nick was the hero of the film, got incredibly mad and then tried to leave.

Also it is really weird that both a sequel to this and also Hob Goblins 2 are being made. Can a fellas dream about Space Mutiny 2 become a reality? Of course thanks to a VHS I had Space Mutiny was a favorite of my friends and I long before MST3K did it, so I’ve had that dream for a long time now.

This trailer still makes me laugh. Gotta pick this up and dissect this movie further. Still gotta give them credit after all making a movie with the little they had.

  37. MikeK says:

For me, the worst part of Time Chasers is J.K. Robertson’s office. It’s the one thing that removes it from even being a nice b-movie, the kind where they had a limited budget but they really tried. It’s just sad that they made the head a powerful corporation have an office on a stair landing.

Wow, I hadn’t heard of this and Hobgoblins getting sequels. That’s even more amazing than “Astro-Zombies 2” (Not MST3K related, but any MSTie would enjoy that one) The one I’d most like to see sequelized is Prince of Space: I swear, every time I watch that one, the script for “Prince of Space Saves Christmas” starts playing out in my brain…

KRANKOR: “So, by impersonating this deity to which the Earth children refer as ‘Santa Claus’, I could easily gain their trust and rule their pathetic world! Why, merryChristmasmygoodchild AH, HAAHHHH, HAAHHHH, HAAAAHHHHH, HAAAHHH, HAHH, HAHH, HAHHHHHHHHHHH…”

There’s a high definition channel called Monsters HD, a horror movie channel. They’ve been showing Prince of Space and Invasion of the Neptune Men. Those are last movies I would ever expect to see in HD.

The program description of Invasion of the Neptune Men says that it stars actor Sonny Chiba, who I assume is the same Sonny Chiba of Street Fighter series of martial arts movies from the ’70s.

I own Space Mutiny on VHS too, along with Zombie Nightmare. No reason, just that it’s cool the have the originals, I’ve watched the MST3K Space Mutiny so much I can recite it line by line when watching my VHS copy :D

  48. ThorneSherman says:

Ahh, Rowsdower. Nothing says action hero like a chunky guy with a mullet, and he even has the requisite effeminate sidekick, Troy. Zombie Nightmare is a particularly good one, although it makes me wonder how listless Tia Carrare ever worked again after it.
