Oh, and longtime MSTie Keith Olbermann mentioned MST3K and wished Joel a happy birthday on Friday’s installment of his show “Countdown.” Here’s the video:
Thanks to Hayce for uploading the video to YouTube and providing the link.
I saw the Olbermann segment last night. It made me proud to hear someone refer to MST3K as biting political and social satire. I think many non-MSTies are under the impression it’s a kids’ show because of the puppets and all. Well, it is a kids’ show, for the kid in all of us.
“Ziggy had Garfield neutered! Now that’s funny!”
Damn right it is.

It’s nice to see further confirmation that there’s nothing bad down between J and M. Speaking for myself, I get the feeling that my own worries in this area come from A. being an obsessive fanboy, and B. from trying to demolish a prior reasoning chain based on faulty information.
And it’s nice to see that Joel did the visual design of the website! I still remember the old, striking, Gizmonic Antsite, and the coloring book he had up of the various things he’d been working on. (Went looking for that coloring book the other day. Anyone have an archived copy?)
And Joel knows of TJ and the ANT! Awesome. I just found out about it like two weeks ago. I wonder if any video is floating around….
Of special note is Joel’s memory of Joe Piscopo. Definitely enough to see ol’ Joe in a different light.

Was I the only one to notice Alton Brown on the Food Network doing a parody of MST3K on his broccoli episode last Monday?

No-I noticed Alton’s parody as well! I love Alton and this is just one more reason!

I ordered a copy of Oozing Skull overnight and I got an email today that it has been shipped. Looks like the five-day waiting period is over.

So, Joel indicates that there are some “rumblings” going around about a 20th anniversary event. That would be awesome, although it does make me feel a little old. I remember watching the first CC episode when it was brand-spanking new.

Keith Olbermann has made many references to MST3K over the years. I remember way back when he was an ESPN sportscenter anchor. He used do MST-Like dialog replacement when they showed each night’s baseball hilights. A guy would drop an easy fly ball and he would make a funny “Duh hey!” type sound. He was funny as hell! It was worth staying up late to see his baseball play commentary. I used laugh my ass of watching those, and I really miss that. I wish I would have taped some of them, but at least I got the memories.

About KO – He has mentioned his love for MST3k on many occasions and on all of the different shows that he has hosted. During the ESPN days, he would usually go with the…
Announcer: And the crowd went wild!
Crowd: (quietly) Yay.
…joke that BB got from the Bulwinkle cartoons. I’ve always wanted to ask KO if he minded looking Dr. Forrester all these years.
About AB – I’m not sure how big of a fan he is but he does use all manner of pop culture references in his show. There was the episode about food myths where he kept trying to say that a given myth was “Busted” but his legal team kept appearing and saying that they’d get sued by the people that made the show Mythbusters.
That being said, watch some of the episodes from the first couple of seasons for the appearance of television monitor with the letters MFST on it. The full name? Mystery Food Science Television (though I do remember him calling it Theatre on the first episode it appeared on).
