RIP Ray Barrett

QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — Veteran Australian actor Ray Barrett, who became a familiar face on both British and Australian television, died in a hospital Sept. 8 after falling at his home and suffering a brain hemorrhage. He was 82.
Early Twin Cities MSTies might have caught his voice work as Commander Shore and Titan on the TV series “Stingray” shown in episode K01- INVADERS FROM THE DEEP.

Here’s a Reuters obituary. Here’s the BBC report. Here’s an Australian report.

Thanks to “J/P=?” for the heads up.

I loved Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5 when I was a kid. As an adult I discovered some Gerry Anderson shows I hadn’t seen as a child, Stingray among them. We bought the entire Stingray DVD set and have watched it repeatedly. We also bought some Thunderbirds DVD sets. Ray Barrett was in both shows. These shows are favorites around my house and we had an especially great time watching them with our child when he was small.

Farewell to Ray Barrett, his performances brought a lot of enjoyment to young and not so young alike.

May God rest his soul, and comfort his family in their time of sorrow.

Titan always tagged me for the most menial jobs….

Interesting thought: As the opening theme to ‘Stingray’ began with Ray Barrett (as Commander Shore) saying ‘STAND BY FOR ACTION!’, does this make Barrett the first voice ever heard in an MST3K theater segment? Wonder if Joel, Trace or Josh countered that with a riff?
