New York City — Actor David McCallum, a Scottish actor best known for his roles on the 1960s spy series “The Man From UNCLE” and then, four decades later, for the CBS crime procedural “NCIS,” died at a hospital here Sept. 25. He was 90.
McCallum was a stalwart on “NCIS,” among the longest-running series on U.S. television. He joined the crime series when it launched in 2003, playing Donald “Ducky” Mallard, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service’s chief medical examiner through to its 20th season this year.
Before “NCIS,” he was best known as Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin in “The Man from UNCLE,” a role that made him a 1960s heartthrob.
MSTies will remember him as evil terrorist Castille in the movie in episode 324- MASTER NINJA II.

I liked Watcher in the Woods.
“Ducky” Mallard is one of the great characters in American television. In one episode, somebody wonders what Ducky was like when he was young and Gibbs (Mark Harmon) says “Oh, Ducky was a real heartthrob. He looked like Ilya Kuryakin.” Which is why I’ve always loved NCIS …
