RIP Ron Masak Thousand Oaks, CALIF. — Character actor Ron Masak died Oct. 20 at a hospital here. He was 86.
He is perhaps best known as Cabot Cove Sheriff Mort Metzger, a frequent beneficiary of sleuth Jessica Fletcher’s crime-solving abilities for eight seasons of TV’s “Murder, She Wrote.” But he also had roles on dozens of TV series during his six-decade career. The hilarious riffing show Cheap Seats tackled Steve Garvey’s celebrity billfishing tournament and skiing events where the Sklar Brothers do quite the number on Ron “King Of Commercials” Masak. They’re available on YouTube and well worth a watch.

So two of the Murder She Wrote cast members died within as many weeks.
Perhaps not so surprising considering there were 274 murders in Cabot Cove during the run of the show. Hmmm… RIP
