Tom T. Hall RIP

Franklin, Tenn. — Country music songwriter Tom T. Hall died at his home here Aug. 20. He was 85.

Known to his fans and fellow musicians as “the Storyteller,” Hall was among a small circle of Nashville songwriters, including Kris Kristofferson, Roger Miller and others, who imbued country lyrics with newfound depth and insight in the 1960s and ’70s.

MSTies will recall TV’s Frank declaring his admiration for Hall in a host segment in episode 318- STAR FORCE: FUGITIVE ALIEN I.

There’s an extensive appreciation here.

Thanks to commenter “Brock Lee Rubberband”for the heads up.

    In His Own Lyrics –

    Ballad Of Forty Dollars”

The man who preached the funeral said it really was a simple way to die
He laid down to rest one afternoon and never opened up his eyes
They hired me and Fred and Joe to dig the grave and carry up some chairs
It took us seven hours and I guess we must have drunk a case of beer

    RIP
