Philadelphia CT Publicity

Ahead of Cinematic Titanic’s appearance in Philadelphia this weekend (can’t wait!) The Philadelphia City Paper interviews Joel.

And my old pal Jonathan Takiff at the Daily News, a MSTie from WAY back, interviews Joel as well.

Someone needs to write a big tell all about what actually led to the creation of CT because we get little snippets about how Joel and Jim were actually working on bringing back MST proper, but no real info on what they might have actually discussed as possibilities for how to do it. I don’t really care about the gossipy stuff like why it fell apart, but I’m dying to know what Joel had in mind for bringing MST back to life. Would it have been back on board the SOL, maybe a new SOL mark 2, or even just something else entirely? Would Frank and Forrester have returned somehow? Would Kevin, Mike and Bill have been invited to return in some way? If so who would have played Tom and Crow? I know there aren’t any specific answers to these questions because it most likely never got beyond talking, but I would love to hear what ideas Joel might have had for a reborn MST.

I was excited CT live was finally coming to Philly until I saw that Ticketmaster was handling the tickets. The $38 ticket (kind of pricey for a movie) soon became $55 with all of the convenience charges, processing fees, and charging me to print my own ticket. I just quit because each page brought a new charge. I would not have been able to enjoy the show because the whole time I would be thinking about how much this was actually costing. CT, please make a trip to central PA and do so without Ticketmaster’s involvement.

Jim getting the blame yet again. Would Joel be as well rounded, or popular, as he is now if he stuck around for the last half of MST3k run?

“I had found a movie and we started to work on it. And it all fell apart, we just couldn’t make a deal with Jim.”

Since they couldn’t make a deal with JIM, it seems like JIM is the one to blame here.

Anyone know where I can get tix for Saturday in Philly? It turns out my boyfriend’s mom’s credit card is a piece of crap and didn’t go through. And I’m desperate!

  7. Matt D. says:

For Laura…is it sold out for Saturday yet? If not, you could try getting tickets at the door. I would think, given what Kristopher (#2) said, that people might have decided against it after seeing all the surcharges. And Kristopher is right, my 38 dollar ticket to Friday became 51 dollars and 25 cents. But I’m still going on Friday because I don’t mind paying that much…ONCE.

Anywho, good interview, and this only heightens my excitement for tomorrow’s show.

Joel is cool about Jim and their differences, and that settles it for me. We should follow the example of our beloved leader and set aside the troubles of the past. Always remember that it is not Jim, but Joe-Don who is the true enemy.

I tried to get tix for Sat. night and it looks to be sold out, TM notwithstanding. There may be some at the door though.

I wonder if they’ll do a show in Milwaukee or at least Chicago.

Hey, any chance of meeting the brains behind “Satellite News”? I read your website every day, and it you guys probably live about 10 to 15 minutes away from me. I dunno… I just think it would be cool to see the faces behind the page and shake their hands. That’s not weird, is it?

Does anyone know whatever happened to the Zardoz riff they “recorded for DVD” as Joel says in the Daily News interview? I’d love to see that. Just rewatched episode 508 – Operation Double 007 recently and Zardoz (a pretentious but fun movie) was mentioned during the Sean vs. Neil Connery host segment.
And FWIW, I attended both San Francisco shows in February and had a blast. As much as I like the DVDs CT has released so far, they should be experienced live. But, yes, echoing #2’s comments above, fu*k Ticketmaster.

I think the Zardoz DVD will be awhile. I notice that they do about 3 movies then they start releasing them every 6 weeks to 2 months. However, I thought I read somewhere that they are releasing fewer this year while they do live shows so it might not be til next year that we see Zardoz. They recorded “Blood of the Vampires” last year in September and that wasn’t on DVD til this last March. There are currently 3 shows prior to Zardoz yet to be released.
