You asked for more voodoo—and we deliver, with a RiffTrax exclusive*, Voodoo Man. Young women are vanishing somewhere on the road that leads to the creepy old house of a deranged bachelor (Bela Lugosi) and his two lonely assistants. Remarkably, no one thinks to question the deranged bachelor and his two lonely assistants, so the disappearances just keep stacking up. Until one day when the blandest man alive (“Ralph”, appropriately enough) uses his remarkable ability to run out of gas at just the right time and discovers their plot. The highlight for most people will be the most shameful performance of John Carradine’s career as a thin, mincing idiot, and the most shameful performance of George Zucco’s career (they must have had a bet going) as a voodoo priest/gas station clerk.
Mike, Kevin and Bill return to the loving (and needle tracked) arms of Bela Lugosi as Voodoo Man.*Once thought lost, our crack staff found it in the caves at Nag Hammadi. Except for one, very brief moment it’s a great print, too, and you literally can’t find it anywhere else!
This is a VOD release, where the movie and the riffing will be together on one video file. And for a couple more bucks you can download a burnable-to-DVD ISO file.
Nice to see Rifftrax is continuing downloadable B movie riffs.
Wow! Lugosi, Carradine, and Zucco altogether makes Voodoo Man a must purchase.

John Carradine playing bongos, priceless!

First Casablanca, now this? When will they leave the classics alone? This stinkburger looks like fun. I had no idea John Carradine was a beatnik.

RIP Mr. Carradine, no more mincing for you.

This is so awesome! Back to the roots of MST3k and taking on the cesspool of cinema that they were born to riff. I saw the youtube trailer earlier, and it reminds me of The Corpse Vanishes! I hope they provide the “Download to Burn” option for this as well. Very happy to see them riffing on the old (in this case, very old) cheese… Hoorah!

I hope this gets released on DVD, for us old-schoolers with old computers.

Well, this looks pretty damn cool. I just may check this one out if they have a burn to DVD option. More of THESE please!

Hey look, Mike has a goatee! One of my favorite sights to see. XD

I loved PLANET OF THE DINOSAURS! This looks just as fun and ripe for riffing. Please continue these burnable downloads and keep up the Shorts.

Ahhhhghghgh! Just when I think I was out they keep pulling me back in!
I had almost sworn off buying any more RT, but I have to get this one (I guess as long as they continue to find some old cheese I have to buy — the stink of the cheese is irresistible)

This looks like a good one for them to riff on.I prefer the older movies for them to do than the big budget ones. It’s more in the spirit of MST3K anyway, right? Now,please release this one on dvd soon,ok???

See, while I don’t mind them going back and doing older movies once in awhile count me as one of the people who likes it better when they do newer releases. It’s something different

Carradine is absolutely shameful with his overacting the “idiot” role. I got this film from Sinister Cinema a few months ago. It’s cheezy fun, and it should be a great Rifftrax.

Planet of the Dinosaurs has been my favorite so far. I’m really into these VODs. I can’t wait to download this one.

But when are they releasing it on DVD? When are they releasing more DVDs? To be perfectly clear, I would prefer new Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic and Film Crew DVDs to be available every hour on the hour. I would also like MST3K to be reborn on HBO with all of the cast members from Josh to Jim tied in for lucrative thirty year contracts.
Is that too much to ask for???

Ah, I see you have questions.. Allow me to answer them.
AUGGHGHHH!!
Phew, now that that’s over, this will be available as VOD and Download-to-Burn, just as Planet of Dinos was. We don’t have immediate plans to offer these on DVD, however it could definitely happen. If it does, though, it won’t be for several months. So if you can wait, and want to risk it, go ahead; or you can try the fairly-simply method of extracting an ISO and burning it to disc. It’s a decent enough system and hey, it seems to work fine :)
On that note, we’re glad you guys are enjoying the older cheese. The guys definitely love doing them, and I have no doubt that if these older movies continue doing well, you’ll see more of them in the future. (So, hint hint, buy ’em and tell your friends to buy ’em! :)

Fans of VOD, cross your fingers and pray that we are able to pull off what we’re trying to for our next release. It’ll be incredible.

Oh wow! Excitement abounds! I think the “Download to Burn” method is as simple as anything could possibly be. If you can’t do this, then you need to lift your computer over your head and violently throw it against the wall, because you are clearly endangering yourself by owning one. However, the recent DVDs were available for such a reasonable price, that they are a hard bargain to pass up. My only opinion is, if the “Download to Burn” is the wave of the future, then providing downloadable cover art would be a super keen addition for the anal collector in all of us. Thanks, and keep up the great work, you guys!

Download to burn sounds fun. Should be neat anyways.

I’ve been waiting for Rifftrax to do the download to burn stuff…I’m just as willing to download these as I am the CT stuff. Just need to find the money…not enough couch cushions…

Does “download to burn” have the unriffed movie? If not, I’ll pass and wait for a proper DVD.

I will wait for the DVD, but eagerly. I’ve enjoyed the added bonus of the new song and the unriffed movie on other RIFFTRAX dvds. (Some of these films sound funny enough to watch either way.) Also, nice that they’re on AMAZON.

Oh, I wasn’t complaining, just suggesting and noting that I and others like the ease and official-ness of a factory DVD.

FYI, “waiting for DVD” may be the same as Waiting for Godot. There currently aren’t any plans to put them out on DVD.

Awesome! More Cheese!
Any hints to the next VOD?!!

I would like to go for the download to burn option except that with Planet of Dinosaurs it (at least initially) only included that DVD version, and none of the other files that come with the less expensive regular VOD release. For the shorts I like to download the mpeg2 version for watching in high quality on my TV, and the iPod version to have for putting on my iPod when I go on trips and such, so I was disappointed that all I got were the DVD files when I originally bought Planet of Dinosaurs on the Saturday after the aborted live show. When you choose the DTB option on these kinds of releases it should be the exact same package as the regular VOD version except that you are paying an extra $2 to get a ready to burn DVD instead of the raw mpeg2 version. Luckily they eventually gave me all the VOD versions of Planet of Dinosaurs as part of the whole live show refund package (or maybe they just changed the DTB option to include all the files?), but if the DTB option of this next release is not going to include any of the other files I will probably just save a few dollars and get the regular VOD version instead. That way I get access to all the files, and if I really want to I can always use the mpeg2 file to make my own DVD (with menus as well). In any case I will be picking this one up in one form or the other, because it looks really fun, and also to show my support for doing more of these kinds of films (and less like Casablanca…).

Also, yes the unriffed movie would be nice for the DTB option as well, if it’s possible to do that is. The high quality of the print (as referenced in the announcement for the release) doesn’t really matter as much if the only option to watch it is with riffing.

Thanks for the heads up, Conner. As I stated before, I think the “Download to Burn” option is ideal and could not be simpler. However, we dorky collector types like to have all the official packaging and what-nots… so, DtB is perfect, but we all feel burned if we buy the DtB and then a DVD pops up later. Regardless… we will all continue to love Rifftrax and complain incessantly. Thanks for all the insight and info you’ve provided. You guys are great and I can’t wait for VOO DOO MAN!

Hmm… my computer is old and does not have these DVD creation capabilities. Must find some way to encourage a focus on DVD release… hmm…
Perhaps this crisp 5$ bill will entice you! (Quickly holds up money, then hides it before anyone can notice that it is Canadian.)

@Cronkite – in your situation, probably just sticking with VOD is probably best, since you’re somewhat savvy and know how to get the mpeg-2 video file onto a DVD-VIDEO disc. The Download to Burn option is really for the people who a) ONLY want to watch it on their set-top player, or b) can’t figure out that newfangled computing machine technology.

Erik,
Absolutely keep the old cheese coming. I’ll drop the dough just as soon as you have VD Man (hmmm, that doesn’t sound right) available (just checked now and it’s still not — hurry, I want it in time for our next feast weekend where we drink Prosecco and eat fancy foods and get silly watching MST3K and other ilk).
I can’t believe these kids don’t get making their own DVDs — I’m old enough to be their grandpa and it’s as easy as pressing a couple of buttons (certainly easier than that twitter thingee :>)

@ Erik,
Thanks for the advice. I was already leaning towards getting the regular VOD this time but now I’m definitely going to.

The download-to-burn option is very nice (although, if I’m to be honest, not quite as user-friendly as the similar option EZTakes offers for Cinematic Titanic, which has a “Download Manager” program that assembles the .rar, then burns it for you.) I’ll definitely use it again for this.

I’ll wait around for this to come out on DVD. Hopefully the next Rifftrax will be a little more contemporary and the Sattelite News bitchfests can resume.

I consider that statement hostile to many “would be” customers, Why do this? In a couple years perhaps every swinging charlie will have download to burn capabilities. But, not right now.
Why alienate what I would think is a large chunk of paying customers.
Just sayin that dvd’s are still important to some of us.

I’m with you BigDave I like the nice packaging that comes with the store bought/Amazon ordered or such, I have download to burn capabilities, but somethings (Mst3k, CT, RT) I like to have nicely packaged and protected. I also think Erik should think twice before dissing paying customers.

Umm, what “hostility” and “dissing” are you talking about? Conor and Erik have always been helpful, and I see nothing in their recent comments to suggest otherwise.
Some people are little touchy. Just speak to yourself, it’s an intenet riffing site, you should really just relax!

How dare Erik and Connor try to destroy OUR planet by not releasing these titles on DVD! Even if they had DVDs to release, they would probably file the DVDs down into sharp, jutting blades and stab and prod us with them, like demons! I rue the day that Erik and Conner logged onto this site to spew their vile and malevolent words. May the Gods forgive what you’ve done, my friends…
PS- Thanks for letting us know that Voo Doo Man will be available for “Download to Burn”. Cheers!

@ Sirhamhat – I wasn’t letting YOU know, vile cretin! Let this be a lesson to you!
(That was a joke, for those of you who are unaware.)
@bigdave and Fred P – sorry if my tone was confusing. I was not dissing anyone, if anything I was lovingly prodding them to take a chance on something that is unfamiliar to them. We understand that not everyone gets the technology or has the ability to sync up or self-burn discs, and that’s why we try to make the process as painless as possible.
Sometimes we come off as being snarky in our replies, but that’s what we do. Please don’t think of it as anything spiteful.
Oh, and Thrify, we’re working on a title from the 19th century. Unfortunately it’s only available on Edison Vitascope. I hope that’s “con-temporary” enough for ya!

Hey Sampo, rather than link to the “displaythickbox” page (Which is confusing to the user, since it provides no context for the movie) you can simply link to ANY sample like so:
http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/voodoo-man?sample (note the “?sample” at the end of the URL).

I downloaded it and burned it this weekend…not the best, but not bad. I blame the movie, really; it’s one of those old, black-and-white films that just sits there lifelessly on the screen. There are a few wonderfully goofy moments (usually at the voodoo ceremonies–Bela Lugosi in goofy robes and John Carradine playing bongos is hard _not_ to make fun of)…but it’s really a lot of blandness, which can be hard to riff.
Oh, and it’s pretty short. Just over an hour.
Wasn’t enough to keep me from buying the next download to burn release, whenever and whatever it is, but I don’t think this will play in heavy rotation like “Planet of Dinosaurs”.

Wow, they actually sound like they’re having fun in the sample. Good sign.
