Meh, Shout! Factory shouldn’t waste money preaching to the choir. They should put that money into scene selections for the DVDs.

You gotta admit, the artwork on those mini posters looks great.

To H: Yeah, I have to agree. I wasn’t crazy about the “lobby cards” when SF first came out with them, but now I like them to the point where I’m planning on displaying them in my den (after Volume XV is in my hands).
It’s nice to get something out of Shout! after such a long drought of info coming from there. Just over a month to go until the release!

The “lobby cards” are a neat idea, but it’s just something you look at and cram in the back of the box. The cover art on the Shout! discs is LIGHT YEARS behind the art for the Rhino releases.
Even the 20th anniversary box suffers… the chose a tin that was just barely too small for the DVD slip cover to come out, insuring that it would be torn to shreds after a couple of removals from the case.

Would it be possible to trade those mini posters for scene selection?? That would be nice.Yes,the artwork on the mini posters are great, but they’re the same on the dvd covers. Also,it would be nice if they made the box a little more sturdier.

I’m pretty sure the issue with scene selections has been taken care of starting with this upcoming release. As for the tin being too small, I agree, and chose not to put the box set back into it. It seemed to work.

In that interview with the guy from Shout, didn’t he say that the sets after this will have the scene selection? Or was it that the chapter skips would be better placed?

“Camera three, get off the tracks, camera three, OH NO!” I’m so glad they put that in the trailer – it’s probably one of the best riffs ever.

The guy from Shout! Factory said that scene selections are extra work, and extra money. The DVDs from Shout! have always had chapter stops, but never a scene selections screen.

I installed these teeny little shelves on one wall which I have a lot of DVDs displayed on, kind of like a video store. I have my 20th Anni cases displayed on that and have the identical lobby cards in the tin being preserved for some far-flung alien culture to find a million years from now. If that’s okay with you, that is!

From the shout board back in February:
“Your motion has been noted and seconded. Expect chapter selections on subsequent releases.

This is going to be an awesome set. I haven’t seen any of those episodes in over a decade, so they’re practically like new. Chapter selections are just the icing on the cake.

Random note of observation: Crow is the one in drag, for once, for the Racket Girls cover art. A quick processing in my head reveals that to have never happened on the show (though I’m probably wrong).
Anyways, can’t wait!

I’m guessing that scene with robot at 48/49 second mark is from one of the first 3 episodes of KTMA?

Good observation, Katana! It’s true, Servo does play the female quite often; the only time I can think of where he didn’t was the host segment spoofing General Hospital, which I believe was in “Manhunt in Space”. Crow was a female patient while Servo was Dr. Chad Feelgood.

Crow was also a Bellerian once during Space Mutiny, although not a very convincing one…

Nope, Speedy. That’s Aztec Mummy in all it’s glory. It’s going to be nice to have it on official DVD but it’s one of my least favorite from Season one. If i remember correctly, i had read somewhere that they tried their hardest to NOT do this one because it was so bad but the Comedy Channel insisted. I’ll be damned if I can remember where I read that…

Actually Speedy, I think that robot is from “Hamlet ADD”, the indie film that Trace and Kevin are providing voices for.

Whoops. Katanas right about that one, Speedy. Ignore me, please.

Katana, you are right. http://www.specialentertainment.com/?page_id=32
the robot is in the picture.

Wasn’t Crow also dressed like a little girl for the Mexican kids’ show in the middle of Clonus? He seemed to have bows at the corners of his basket.
“Agua. AGUAAA!”

Crow also stripped for Mike and Servo during Girl in Gold Boots. I assumed he was supposed to be female(to go with the movie) although they only seem to refer to him as a “sexual being”. Always leave ’em wondering, I suppose.

I’m sold on the basis of how great the picture and sound on Zombie Nightmare, my favorite episode, is. It really is night and day between having a taped copy from 1994 and the master copy.

I’ve never understood the gripe about not having scene selections. For movies, okay…but for MST3K? Are there actually MSTies out there who don’t just sit down and watch the entire episode from start to finish? That seems…odd. But anyway, cool that Shout Factory listened to the complaints…doesn’t affect me one way or the other, but it’s nice to know that they heed consumer feedback.
I find it interesting that Shout is putting out a lot of Season One episodes, which Rhino hardly ever did. Personally, I’m happy about that. While the Brains were still finding their footing in Season One, I still like those episodes a lot…and since the Brains didn’t want them rerun on CC after a certain point, they’re a lot rarer…especially to see in pristine form.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the new release, as always. I’ve been digging the Shout collections so far. More than the Rhino ones, even. The movie selection seems better, and the extras have been great. Plus, I never liked the fold-out digipak packaging for multi-disc sets…sorry, Rhino.

Scene selections are a part of even the lowliest DVDs, so it’s silly for Shout! Factory’s MST3K DVDs to not have them. The Rhino episodes had them, so why not Shout! Factory’s?

I hope SF continues to keep releasing Season One eps, especially if they can obtain the ones in the latter part of the season (107-113). I know many of them are considered long-shots, but you never know!

I have to say, I laughed throughout the trailer. I can’t imagine them doing a better job putting it together. If I hadn’t seen MST for awhile (or ever), that would definitely whet my appetite.
And as for Aztec Mummy–don’t get me wrong, I’m THRILLED to get a season one ep on a commercial release!–we know it’s a little dry compared to other episodes. And they did an amazing job bringing the gems from that into the trailer!
Rhino provided a good service for many years, but Shout! is consistently going that extra mile. Those extras look insane, and I need to find a way to display the mini-posters. They have just the right look to ’em.
(No, I’m not a sock puppet, I just love new releases that provide more than a slight upgrade to my fan-made DVDs.)
